Agree Paul, but that is not only in Wet Willy or Rio. Try explaining something at the reception of your hotel, even in a 4 or 5 star. But then, in Europe you would probably find nobody at the reception, or find a bell boy to show you and carry the luggage to your room, even had it in a Hilton.

All in all, the bottom line is, RH will have to pull its finger out or people won't go anymore and it will go bust. Simple as that.
In any organisation, whether it's a go go bar, a minimart, a multinational or a government, the same rules apply: it all flows down from the top. So if the man at the top doesn't give a f***, you can bet your bottom dollar the waitress and the dishwasher won't care either.
One question though: how come it never seems possible to open a fantastic go-go bar in Patong, comparable to BKK or Patts?

I think Rock Hard/Rio still has enough customers to survive. And as mentionned the staff is qiuite good.
And Rock Hard was one of the best gogo's I've known before this government started their crusade against nightlife. Lot of beauties. The wet t-shirt contests were fun. Before that every weekend Rock Hard was full every night and even more on weekends when those guys came over from Singapore. Don't know if you know what happened with Sharks.

Not always true when location is so important.. When dealing with torist businesses your repeat custom is not always the driver.. Location and foot traffic can make up for it.

Yep RH is the second busiest gogo in town.....after Dragon.....which is worth a look......RH is packed to the rafters in high season....possibly busier than Dragon.....but the locals and those in the know prefer Dragon anyday!!!

I tend to disagree.... As a local myself and knowing quit a few other locals... Thjey might go to Rock Hard, as I do myself incidently, but are avoiding Dragon. They feel that Dragon is the tourist trap, not RH. Luke warm beers, bad seating, half decent/bad service etc. Girls only out to gain a quick buck from a uninformed tourist etc....
Maybe we are just a sad bunch and like to drink beer without pussy....

I used to know quite a few of the Dragon girls so would pop in to say hi but with a changing of the guard I dont as much these days.. I also agree with TTB that its a bit of a barn and since Otts departure I have less reason to go there.. Good for an ogle but I like a more tactile gogo
Honestly some of my best gogo nights have been in Seadragon !! Patongs gogo scene is a bit dire..

Thats funny, What you have just described in your post sounds like Rock Hard to me, Definatly not Dragon... Always had great service in Dragon no matter how packed the place was, The staff are always friendly, The drinks are always cold.. And a lot of the girls are hot...
All of which (from my 3 visits there) cannot be said about RH from me, Actually experienced the exact opposite there..

Dragon service seems fine to me.. They have the added advantage of ownership that allows, shall we say, a little bit more entertainment then other places but I have always felt that it is managed in such a way as the girls dont tend to circulate much, they do thier dance shifts and then huddle back of stage, uniform changes, the like..
A good gogo usually has the bit more slap and tickle etc than a beer bar and Dragon has routines and shows but not much interaction.. I honestly havent been in there in a couple of months but after the crew that we knew moved on then its a watchers place more than interacting..
Just my take on it..

I tend to disagree, and with me many others. Beers are not really cold at Dragon, especially later in the night. In RH drinks are always cold. as they should be.
Seating in Dragon is pretty bad in my opinion. More like a fast-food place. Eat and go.... Girls are similair. Fast food. Pick, go short and leave... That sounds like a tourist trap in my book.
Dragon is a fast food outlet in my book. Look at the wares, pick if you like, but leave early.... Not a place where they attract people who might be here in a daily routine...
Again, as a resident, and a 15 year (young) regular of Patong entertainment, Dragon is not the place for 'people in the know' but merely for people 'wanna be in the know'. I know I might kick a few members in the balls, but it is a general conversation around locals and long time tourists. Unless we frequent different local ventures. Eventhough I admitt that dragon fills a space in local nightlife. Especially because local contacts gthey are able to cater more to the curious visitor...
Each their choice though. But, I feel that a bit of realisme should be shown in this discussion.

Well again I disagree, I have never got a warm drink in Dragon and I would be in there most nights on every trip, But I have got one from RH the last time I was in there.. The girls in RH have been lifeless and dull on every single occasion I went there and I am not on my own in my opinion, In Dragon at least they do a bit of dancing around the poles and a couple of shows, Although I agree on the point LIL made about the dancers not being as interactive with the customers as they should be but I always do alright..
And I find it quite patronising for you to tell people that think Dragon is better, Thats only because they are "Not in the Know", Thats bollox, I have more fun in Dragon than I ever had in RH.. Its simple.. I take every place I go to on face value and just tell it how I see it, And the overwhelming majority of expats, longtime visitors and first-timers that I have spoken to and know have agreed with me about RH, So I guess thats a lot of people not in the "Know"..
Anyway we could go on all day, You are entitled to your opinion as much as I am, I just object to the in the know comment, We all have different tastes and obviously will never agree on this, So will will have to agree to disagree..

I totally agree with you, but dont say anything negative about Dragon on here or you will be kicked in the head for it, as I once was. I find Dragon just boring, music is crap, well it might be good but who can tell it is too loud. Its easier to have a conversation on the apron at the airport standing under a running APU, than it is inside Dragon.

just a subjective thing really......pole leaning vs pole moving (neither of them really dance)........rock vs dance vs loud vs softer music......warm drinks vs cold drinks etc.....
I guess the point I was really trying to make however is that Dragon seems much busier to me with a younger punter + better eye candy all year round......but RH is normally pretty darned dead unless it's high season...as for going ST with a gal from either...WHY???....... both places are pretty darned useless to me.......I find the girls fully clothed in the sois sexier than the lame asses in both places.......
and as others have pointed out.......if it's gogos you are after...........You can stumble upon 100 better ones in Patts or BKK with a blindfold on....

But, my 'in the know' comments were merely a reaction to somebody stating that "the locals and those in the know" (I used exactly the same words) were all going to Dragon.
Not patronizing at all, but the discussion was fairly one sided. A bit of perspective is justified in my opinion. Good to see that others, including Stevem, are sharing that opinion.

diplomatic opinion
I think the quality of both places have become worse over the last 12 months. When i first arrived about a year ago, i think dragon was one of the first places i went in to. I swear they had nicer chicks back then as well. As for RH, only started going there recently (about 4 months ago), never had a bad time there although the girls could be a little more enthusiastic....
If and when i do go out nowadays which is not often at all, i find myself having a couple of drinks in RH at the start of the night as its not so busy and for some reason i enjoy playing pool with half the pool cue sticking out the window (yes sad isn't it, i'm very easily amused) But then again the pool cues are horrible in RH IMHO. So after a couple of drinks in RH i move over to dragon where i can play pool properly with nice cues and nice tables. Plus i find the service staff in dragon always ask you if you want your drink refilled, there’s been times in RH where i'd have to look for a service staff member or ask one of the dancers to get me a drink.
Personally i never had a problem with the drinks in either place. Then again i've never tried the draft beer in dragon, very much a vodka tonic man myself... At the moment i think dragon does have the more interesting shows i.e. "lesbian foam show" whereas RH just has the girls looking uninterested dancing on the polls. The seating in both places doesn't really bother me that much and for the music i prefer the music in dragon but then again the music in RH doesn't really bother me either although its not my favourate.
So all in all i think they both have their pros and cons just like any other place. Some people will like dragon better some will like RH better and some will like both and of course some will hate both. Just depends on what you're looking for i guess.

A good one and agree
RH is in my opinion a better place with
better service,if you sit inside RH the girls at least
talk to you or try to get in contakt,do that happens with the "nose up in the sky girls" at Dragon ?
Dont think so .
And the music is divisions better IMHO.
Maybee its a age thing, and that we older ones is past the wannabe stage, and are more in the chill mode

I only go to Dragon for the Long Island Ice Tea's. I never really ever get that interested in what the girls are doing on the stage! Once you have seen one Go-Go dancer you have seen them all!
Besides, im usually too busy saying "Why did you put a bill in your bra, if you expected us to pay it last time!"

Ok I understand where you are coming from now, I honestly didnt see the other comment before, And now I see it was not ment in a patronizing way, Just as a responce to the other post, So my bad
I agree it is a very one-sided debate though, But IMO that only proves my point about RH

Back in the UK now and catching up on this thread.
Having spent time in both, it is undeniable the girls in Dragon are far more attractive on the whole, the service staff in Dragon are very pleasant but the chairs/seats all seem to wobble around and seem not the best, the Music was ok, more on the dance/club side of things. BUT in Dragon the girls really do not overly approach customers, so most of the time will be spent watching the stage or talking to the service staff, unless you actively call someone over. Rock Hard - can fluctuate, there are some nice girls there, but what is happening is a lot of them are going off relatively early so if you walk in at the wrong time it can be quite disappointing. BUT the girls in RH are more approachable and the measure of drinks is larger, i drink spirits and in Dragon they give you a tall skinny little glass if that's something that concerns you. As I know the owners/managers etc and get to meet the regulars when in town, RH is a social place for me, with the occasional straying or two. Bottom line is Patong doesnt have many Go Go's of note anymore, Extasy is long gone, Flash is long gone, and the sporadic little ones down Soi Sea Dragon are apalling at best. One of the best places in town that I found was in fact Sharky's bar in Tiger Complex, as the owner their really knows how to get the place jumping :-). I tend to use the discos Tiger, Baja or Safari to pick up girls in, and met some really cool ones this trip and hang out in the GoGo's or bars as a time killer - gotta love that air con !
