I have been to t-land once in 2003 and once in 2004 and twice in 2005.

In 04 I was visiting a friend who was working in BKK, He really did me a BIG favor by showing me the countryside, business life, night life and culture...and the do's and don'ts. We went to Phuket and stayed at Thara Patong, to the cemetary at the River Quai, Royal Palace, touristy snake farm via river boat, BKK -weekend market, patpong, soi cowboy, soi 1, bangala/eric area, got kicked out of a tuk tuk, ate silk worms-grass hoppers-ant eggs-deep fried maggots, blew off a date with a stewardess from australia in favor of a couple of Issan stunners, sniveled on the airplane on the way home (thinking about a girl from Burma that I met in the Iriah Bar in Phuket.)

Arrived in BKK for 3 days -
was supposed to get a visa For vietnam for a 3 day trip but all Govt Services were diverted to the big wave in the south.
My reservation for 5 days at Thara Patong in Phuket was not going to happen
for the new year. All plans were cancelled -
Then I met a 26 yr old bar girl who had been a mistress of a british embassy diplomat. He had been sending her 40000 baht a month for the past 4 years. She had a car, college education, and classic- daughter living with her parents in Phosai (N.E.) She wants 3000 for L.T. I pay- go to a movie, japaneese restaurant and have the time of my life, the next morning she is all business in fact a photo of her at the taxi stand has an international look of -get lost.
At 3pm I am back at the bar she works at fining her before somebody else does. I take her to the BKK Conrad (35000 hilton points ) she explains the "daddy from the UK died" and she has enough $ to last maybe 2 years and she is looking for a new one. I tell her that she picked the wrong guy and I have an x wife that beat her to my hard earned cash anyway. We go to Chang Mi, -hotel and camp out in the mountains. She charges nothing and does not charge a daily bar fine -I give her 1000 baht a day for shopping.

Returning from business trip in New Zealand I am back in Thailand
1 nite in with her in BKK and off to Koh Samet for 5 days- wow
Fly to Phosai in the north to stay w/her family for 2 days
I fly back to BKK alone, S.T. action with Tilac Bar go go dancer (at soi cowboy)
fly home w/out sleep
We e mail constantly -I say move to the states and she wants me to come there. She is beautiful, smart, sexy, speaks english better than most people here in Wisconsin. I really like her!!

She is working in Pattaya selling time shares, (I was surprised to find that she actually was working for asia travel) Her room mate wasnt though,she is a real pro who had just gotten a new set of fake tits from a kind swedish gent. Anyway their house was something, 2 bedrooms 2 bathrooms, spent a couple nights there but there was nothing going on there during the day so I got a hotel on the beach.(she paid 1st nite) She worked from 12-8pm, so left to my own devices I found plenty of day time activities and still managed to look innocent at the beach hotel when she was done working. Out for a late dinner and off to bed.

I go back to BKK via S.T. @ soi cowboy again

We have been writing e mails back and forth 2-3 times a month for the last year, she calls about once a month.

We flew up to Phosai, a small village in the north east, met her parents, ate great food on the floor with our hands out of very cool steamer baskets, swam in a wide river on the thai/lao border, went to bars, shopped at markets where some people had never seen a white person before and had to touch my skin. It was amazing, like a dream.

Back to the good part- The- “This is Thailand” part that I mentioned.

At the time I was 46years old weighed 250 lbs and 6’3” tall
(17.85 stone, 190.5 cm tall) Played rugby here in the states, second row and am still in good shape (somewhat)
Unbeknown to me-the father of her daughter hears that there is a house guest over at Nam’s parent’s house. All he knows is that there is a new boyfriend and he is from America and spending time where he would like to be lodging or should I say lodged. This guy, Khum starts drinking and by 10:30pm he is lit thinking about a little pay back. I however, was sleeping. Khum leaves the bar and goes mobile via a motor bike and arrives at the dark house. I am sleeping in a spare room, Nam is in her room with her daughter, her mom and dad are sleeping downstairs in the living room, on a mat under a mosquito net. This dude quietly enters the house through the unlocked back door, he knows the layout of the house and is in my room except I don’t know it quite yet.

Khum jumps on me and sits on my chest and starts pummeling my head with rights and lefts at the same time and one after the other. I wake up to this …. Like what the Fcuk!! I thought is was her dad, maybe he had found out about the crimes against nature that I had been performing with his daughter and he was settling things the farmers way. I finally got a glimpse of the perpetrator and remember, even in that situation how surprised I was- to not know the dude that was smacking me around. I got my leg up and tossed him off my chest just as Nam’s dad entered the fracas but the lighting was bad and I didn’t know it was him. There is a lot of yelling in Thai and that’s when my adrenalin went into high gear. I thought the dad (I didn’t know it was him) was also trying to get me since he was grabbing me while trying to break things up. Big mistake….first I set my sights on the dad. I hit him with a full force, close quarter uppercut to the chin and he was down! The home invader’s face was visible to me from an outside light shining through the window. He was horrified to see me on my feet and he was screaming like a girl. I hit him so many times in the 10 seconds before Nam turned on the light that it made me feel a bit ill afterward. Anyway the dad and x boyfriend are on the floor, the dad is moving the x appears afraid to stand up. The mom is crying and Nam is just staring at me in disbelief.
We all go downstairs and have bottled water and wipe up my bloody lip and cold cloth for the x boyfriends swollen shut eye. He gave me a wai and took off on his bike. The whole story lasted 10 minutes and we all went back to bed. The next morning I tried to have Nam translate an apology to her father (I didn’t know it was him) but he had already spoke with her about the incident and did not blame me for kicking ass on them. He was cool about things despite an obviously sore jaw at breakfast. I think I was lucky because if he was mad about things Nam would not have sided with the house guest. The mom never warmed up to me.
Maybe it had something to do with touching the elder family members head.

I flew to Bangkok in October of 2006 and got a room at the Conrad Hilton using Hilton points- 35,000 was the most I have never paid for a hotel but I thought I would impress my little Thai friend with some opulent accommodations. I called her when I arrived at the hotel. I knew that her daughter would be visiting her in Bangkok and asked them to come by for a swim. When she arrived I couldn’t believe my eyes. In the a year and a half since I had last seen her her appearance changed so much that I may have had a hard time recognizing her if I had not known it was her. She had obviously been working in bars, probably freelancing and she was also dressed like a ****** on her day off of work. Instead of using highlighter or whatever it is that women used to accent their eyebrows she was tattooed there. So he essentially my 9 on the 10 scale was now a 7 or 8 at best. I realized I wasn’t in love with her anymore and was also somewhat embarrassed of no way she had dressed when I brought her up to the executive lounge on the 27th floor.
As it turned out she was freelancing for 6000 baht a night. I have no doubt that she can get it if she targets older punters at Gulliver’s bar and restaurant. There is one in Bangkok around soi 7 and one in Pattaya right on the ocean. She speaks perfect English and has a very good sense of humor. I guess that a business degree is paying off after all. Anyway it is amazing how much she had changed and the lifestyle had changed her.
I her and her daughter out to eat at a fancy seafood restaurant at Sukhumvit soi 23 the bill was around $65 American. We planned to meet two nights later and parted company. Thursday rolls around and of course she is almost one hour late. We went out to eat and then to of few dance bars before going back to the hotel. I gave her an MP3 player and an SD card with music on it. She said she liked it a lot but some of the music but she was now listening to hip hop. Anyway back at the hotel I get her out of the tight clothes and into the bed –sneak into the bathroom and throw down a 100 mg Viagra only to find out that she is on the bun=no play! I still had fun she has a smoking hot body and at least that didn’t change. I wanted to see her over the weekend but she informed me that she had plans and was not going to be available she said “I don’t think it’s a good idea”. I told her I would be back in Bangkok the next weekend because I had a business trip to Indonesia during the next week. We had planned to meet at the Millennium Hilton at the following weekend.
I went to Pattaya the next day and had the time of my life.
I returned from Jakarta Indonesia from the work week but instead of going to the Hilton to meet her…. I bolted right back to the big fun in Pattaya.
Was he ever pissed off! She said that she had been in pattaya all week and had come back to Bangkok to meet me.
What have I learned from all this?
I’ve learned to be more noncommittal but not callous when dealing with empty plans and promises. I learned a lot about Thai culture, geography, what is for tourists what is not and I like ‘what is not’, how to get around the country.
I’m going to Vietnam for work in October and I am not even kidding myself that I won’t go to Thailand. After all it is only a hour and a half flight. However, I will kid myself and say that I will not see her when I come in October.
I will come back to Phuket this trip. Is the Thala Patong Hotel still guest friendly?
