The second person I am aware of in 2 weeks was the victim of a pickpocket in Taipan

. It seems to be that the area of attack by the pretty young things is by the right hand side bar where it curves around near the toilets. Gird your loins (and wallets) gentlemen. Carpe Diem

there is no need for anyone to pick my pocket in taipan, everytime I go in with money in my wallet there aint nothin left by the time I leave..

so u reckon its an inside job,hmmmmmm.........well i dont know 'taipan bob'.i take it he runs the place,but i think its not right to go pointing fingers.
ok youve heard of 2 incidents in 2 weeks,did it ever cross your mind that possibly there is a nasty piece of work operrating in there her/his self FL 555555,and im sure there is plenty of em around.
Also i think its very hard to dertermine who and when the events happen like this,unless caught red handed,ok everyone has there theories,ideas..etc.but in a busy place were id say 90% of people are smashed out there heads,money will get lost ,stolen....

i think ive taking what your implying correct,im not sure its very wise.
but then again if u know thai pan bob and its meant as a joke,the outlook on this post is not good.

My mate from NI just arrived two nights ago and got "picked" in Taipan lost his night's worth of dosh.

Simbo is only joking about Taipan Bob being the Fagan in this place.

Bob does not need to pick a pocket or two.All you guys have made him a velly hansom rich man.

That is a good idea Mav - shame you never thought of that yourself.

So Thailearner was not pickpocketed. This shows that some people get pickpocketed and some don't.

Nice to see peeps can tell me how to suck eggs!! All I was doing was warning people that there is a genuine threat of people getting their pockets picked. If thats such a bad thing I won't bother trying to help fellow BMs in the future. Another scam on at the moment is girls offering to give guys a lift on a motorbike. He gets a 2 girl sandwich and finds out at the other end he's been dipped by the one who has been sat behind running her hands all over him and telling him he sexy man. For those who appreciate us highlighting this sort of incident please take note- for those who take offence at it just ignore.

I dont think its like that, I am sure everyone likes to hear any new scams that are going on.. But I am sure this kind of thing happens everywhere there is big crowds and drink involved.. Not just in Taipan but in Tiger, Safari etc..etc..

This is probably true but i bet it doesnt just happen in Taipan and not just other drinking holes..... Always a good idea to watch your money and that isnt just in Thailand but pretty much everywhere........

I have removed the first part of my original post and changed the title it seems to have caused some people offence. All i want to do is highlight a potential threat that could spoil someon'e holiday- if this is such a bad thing just don't read the posts. For those who want to be aware of any current areas within Patong where they may be at risk I will continue to highlight them as i become aware of them if people so desire. There have also been 3 late night muggings in the area at the top of Soi Sansabai. If you ignore friendly info and get mugged don't come whinging here saying why didn't anyone highlight us as to the threats. I will stop posting on this thread now so it doesn't become a pissing contest.

It happens where ever there it is dark, plenty of drink, lots of people close together and a minority are likely to be carrying alot of money on them.

I generally never carry a wallet with me when im out on the piss anyway, not just in los. But on one of the few occasions that i was 'packing', I was pickpocketed in Tiger. My fault, I know. But the best thing is not to panick, just go out and cancel any cards you have in the wallet as quick as possible. Took me 2 min max. After that just used the other cards I dont keep with me or the travellers cheaques i always take too.

When on holiday a few years back. A group of men try to mug me when i was walking between a bar and a club by myself. But I just turned out my pockets to show them all i had was a few euro's in change and a key. So they just walked off. I had all my notes in a hidden zipped pocket. This is something that I always try to get now when im buying shorts/trouser's for use when im away. The ones with a zipped pocket inside the main pocket, or very tight pockets, that you can bearly get your hand into. Especially the tight leather ones that go well with a nice mesh shirt.

Also we are getting to the end of low season.. Low season hurts financially and that filters down through the whole economy.. By the later stages of low season people get desperate and desperation forces people to do things that given choices they wouldn't normally do.

Every year the incidence of muggings, guys on bikes on dark bits of road, jewelery snatching (don't thing the girls don't get mugged.. Girls getting mugged their gold is very common) all rise as the low season clicks on.. Not by enough to make anything sound scary but by a noticeable margin.
