Best Bangla Road Bars

I am looking forward to returning to the Bangla Road and have been thinking about the bars I have used in the past and will use again. For best music and sound system it is the U2 bar. As a bit of an old geezer that 70's stuff is still magic for me. I think as the bar is a bit enclosed this improves the sound. For sitting and watching the world go by it's the Blue Lotus (50 yards up the road). Friendly service and some nice seats right on the edge of Bangla Road, just opposite the ladyboy place (Soi Crocodile I think). The bar next door (the Shipwreck) is perfect for a nice quiet beer and to watch the sport. The girls who run it are professional & friendly. Nice cocktails. Anybody got any recommendations ? I like a good sound system and older rock music.

I was there 2 weeks ago. Actually it has been 10 days and 12 hours but who's counting . Anyway I would agree with all the bars you mention. I also hung out in the afternoons in Kangaroo bar (I think right next to U2 bar). Usually had good music playing and they have a really great staff with several fun girls to hang out with in the afternoons. The would also phone out for food for me, so on several rainy days, I almost didn't have to get off the bar stool ... other than to recycle the beer.

I also met several guys in Kangaroo bar that now call Patong Beach home and this was their local hangout. I'm thinking of moving over there as well, so it was good to get their perspective on living in LOS.

So anyway, I'd recommend Kangaroo bar for good music, great staff and a good mix of people to chat with.

We spent several evenings at the Star Bar (I think). Its the one on the corner of Bangla and Song Roy Pee Rd, and is under the Muay Thai boxing stadium (tonight! tonight!)

They have a good live band, you can sit watching all the people entering and leaving Bangla rd, and there is a dance floor if you are feeling keen.

Mike,
you would probably like Rock City(i think thats the name) on Beach road, lots of rock tribute band stuff.
I quite enjoy a visit to Scruffys to see the band in there and I also like a wee jaunt into Blue Elephant on Soy Eden to see the Thai band there, cant understand a word they sing but like the tunes.

Gr99,
i think the bar you are describing is actually called Margarita Bar. I agree its a nice bar where you can watch the world go by and listen to the band. Jah behind the bar is a sound bloke too.

My other fav's for people watching are Shipwreck( Big John, Mem, Pen,Hon etc. are great)and Blue Lotus.

But there again i've seldom been in a bar that i didn't like!

U2 Bar sounds good with the 1970s rock.

Any bars in Patong play 80s retro music?

Without a doubt the best bars on Bangla are the ones at either end of the road that stop traffic after dark...

I am a regular at the Shipwreck, no hassle and good music. I also like the fact that they will play your CDs if you take them in. John the owner is a good bloke and I cannot wait to January to be back in my favourite stool by the bar.

The girls would always walk through Soi Crocodile when they finish working at night. The one in the middle with Crusty is an absolute cutie. Shy but very cute!

Tried to photograph On at Songkran but she kept turning away ruining my pics. Glad to see someone managed it. Agree Shipwreck excellent venue for afternoon watching the world stroll by.

All these photos are making me "homesick" ;-) For those of you who have been going to the shipwreck for a few years, here's something to jog a memory or two. I will be back in situ on January 9 :-))
