TROUBLE: Finding a Bar Girl when Bars are closed on public holidays
I just read two treads that gave me some information that may (adversly) impact my trip to BKK. http://www.phuket-info.com/forums/ni...ure-dates.html lists the Thai public holidays, most of which mean no bars will be open, this includes Saturday 7 October (Paravana Day). In addition this thread: http://www.phuket-info.com/forums/ni...ing-day-s.html discuses the rules on alcohol. This thread also identifies Sunday 15 October as General Election meaning Friday October 14 all sale of alcohol is banned.
Did the coup do away with this day with ban on alcohol or is it still on the books?
I am not so cencerned with the availability of alcohol as I can stock up the day before. I am more concerned with ready availability of companionship. - Are public holidays a day for FL's?
- Are bars open, but no alcohol?
- Are clubs like Eden and Annie's open?
- Should one spend part of the day before lining up candidates for the holiday?
- Will escort be the best option (hope not)?
HELP: Could some one "locals" or any experienced travelers, please shed some light on this.
I very much respect local holidays as well as our own as long as they do not interfer with by business

There will be no elections for a while so don't worry about the 15th. Also you can always find places to drink even when the bars are closed. Buy some booze the day before to be safe. The girls are still out but you might have to "browse" around a bit, don't worry and let these dates affect you.
Cheers!

There are always ladies around so i agree with Urtheman... Don't worry and there always seems to be places selling alcohol anyway during non alcohol days. Sometimes its a little more difficult to get a beer, but i've noticed its always been pretty easy to get a cocktail instead on the non alcohol days as it looks like a juice and the staff in restaurants are normally quite happy to serve a cocktail but finding a place to get a beer might be more difficult.

One day out of three and the last night, sure it is time to catch up. Granted I will be back for another 3 days shortly after, it is still 33% and and a finale.

Oh well you never know. Sometimes not all the bars are closed... You maybe able to find some bars open. I remember... I forgot which holiday it was. Dragon was open but for the first couple of hours they were only serving soft drinks/juices and water. Then they started serving alcohol at about 10-10.30 if i'm not mistaken. You can find anything in thailand if you look hard enough. Just like the queens birthday... I was in bkk, i couldn't find any place that was open for a while, went to soi cowboy, thermae, up and down suk and i couldn't find anything... Didn't go to nana, but found out there was something going on there. Then found Syn bar which was great... So don't worry MrDk i'm sure you'll be able to find something.

We dont close on all public holidays, only if a religious one they ask us to close. But looks like it is getting more relaxed, as we were allowed to open on queens birthday. (Used to be closed) We closed anyway thought.

It helps that they non-alcohol sales rule is not in effect anymore for the royal birthdays, expecting the bars to be open than.... Best guess, I know...

The only day
Now that the interim government is going ahead there will be no elections this year and so no bar closing days ahead.
The only one on the horizon which is strictly enforced will be HM the King's birthday on 5th December.
A lot of public listed holidays are mainly for banks and civil service jobs. These days do not effect the nightlife.

Even this one is questionable. On advise of the royal household is it now allowed to sell alcohol on the birthdays from the Queen and King of Thailand.
This might affect the rule that bars need to be closed. Will be wait and see, I agree.

Bugger!!!! My first 'full day' in Patong ... I should arrive on the afternoon of the 4th, and I plan to spend the evning in Soi Bangla. Should I find a suitable LT companion, and make sure that the LT is about 36 hours (!), or can anybody offer advice for the 5th?

YES LT
But there will still be some ladies walking around Bangla area and some freelancers around and massage ladies.

Just remember when you "carry over" you will have to take her shopping during the day if you cannot keep her fully occupied in your room.

Who came up with that rule??? I could have sworn feeding them, showering them and looking after them stroking their hair was enough... 555555555

being in both places on bar closings, i think you are more likely to find girls lookign for farangs in patong than bkk
the times i have been in bkk on closings it seemed to be air tight, and didnt notice too many girls walking around.
i did manage to end up at a bowling alley that served us
last time i was in patong for a closing, bangla was crawling with girls looking for customers

No worries
I have never been in BKK or HKT on any day (royal holidays included), when I couldn't find a drink or a girl if I really wanted one. So, no worries.
Last one in HKT, found a cute gal on Soi Bangla walking around, went to 7-11 to get alcohol, tuk-tuk back to the room. Had a party there.
Last one in BKK, went to a massage place via tuk-tuk. Everything operating as usual.

October 7 - Holiday Update.
Went to bier Garten at 2PM. Serving drinks as usual. Other restaurants around are too. Still word has it that NEP and Soi Cowboy will be quiet, but I am starting to think that there may be plenty of activity.

Shopping!!?? Shopping for what exactly? I know that the female of the species has a 'special' shopping-gene which us mere males are lacking, but please give me some clues as to where to take them.
I'm assuming that most of the bar-girls live in/near Patong so they probably know all the shops already.
What kind of shopping - food (boring!), stuff for the home (boring), jewelry (could be expensive?), lingerie/underwear (I'm there dude!!! ).
