Last nite they tried to rip me off for 2000 extra baht at Mai Thai Bar. I have spent quite a lot of money there since I have been together with one of the girls for a few days. I guess any owner will tryto rip off a farang if you aint watching your back/pay attention to the bills in the cup. Even so, I have had a good time so far, hope the next week will be even better outside Soi Eric.

What's that got to do with what to wear in clubs in Patong?
Never had a problem at MTB usually the other way around, did you talk to Nicke instead of posting it, tosser.

This is really NOT the place for such statement....Better talk directly to the concerned person...

If you thought you'd been "ripped off" did you say anything to Nicke or Ead at the time ??????.
I find it highly unlikely that this happened , and to imply that "any owner will try to rip off a farang" is a statement I personally find offensive. I am sure that Nicke will be in contact with you , and I've no doubt that a lot of BM's who regularly visit MTB will also express their views on your claim.

With serving so many people mistakes can and do sometimes happen, instead of making such an accusation perhaps you should have had a word with Nicke or Ead and explained there had been a mistake made. Owners and staff of Mai Tai would never knowingly rip you off, it does unfortunately happen at some other bars, so always best just to check the bill before you pay. In MTB they usually put your name on the back of the separate bills so easy to see if mistake has occurred.
Not a very good 2nd post to make about the very much respected owner of this forum!!!!!

Bugger!!!!
After reading all about how style orientated the Thai girls are, im going to have to go out and buy some more clothes before I go now.
So if any of you have some style tips for me, I would be more than welcome for advice! Im looking especially at Dodger for this!
Cheers!

Faulty it does happen...........Don't kid yourself.........
But MTB......NO BILL PADDING THERE.........But hey, like Dodger said, staff there would never knowingly try to rip anyone off........People can & do, make mistakes however!
In all my visits to MTB, i have never been dudded for one baht............I usually leave the bar consuming more alcohol than what I paid for. With the bell ringing & sometimes Nicke's generosity buying me & others a shooter or 3.
Nicke has too much to lose over any wrongdoings at his place.

Spent all my evenings at the MTB. I was always fairly charged for the drinks I bought there.
If you feel you were cheated, you should have talked to Nicke and/or Ead, because I am sure they would have reached a fair deal with you. They are real good people and perfect hosts.

Put two and two together. If MTB was a type of place that would rip people off how do you think a forum like this could survive?

Don't give this guy another thought. It's Olerok's only post on the forum aside from his introduction. He obviously had some confrontation with MTB management or staff, and this is his way of getting even.
Oh, and back to the topic - don't forget that it's traditional in Thailand to wear your underpants on the outside.

So Just wondering if I need similar in Thai or do more people wear jeans and such? Never been to Thai so not sure and I would guess it would be to hot for jeans.
Just do not want to drag cloths or shoes and stuff over there that I will not wear so I have more room in my bag to bring more stuff home when returning
Also on a similar point, on my trips to Bali all I take is 2 shirts and 2 shorts and basics like brush etc'. When I get there you can buy illegal coppied billabong and quicksilver shorts and shirts for $3.00 each so I just buy all my cloths there as I need them. So does Patong have similar stuff like coppied surf wear cheap that I can also buy there save taking a lot my own cloths over?
I know this is the night life sectionn but it started off on a night life topic
What are the main things that Thai' sell cheap ? Bali is all things hand made like wood carvings and cloths and such.
Thanks

If you wanna go stylish...get a good White button shirt, mix it with some stylish khakis, and good stylish sandals...all can be had for no price at all in LOS...

Nor me, had some bill padding in other places though, /sigh, move on, never go back, their loss.
actually Ead was very very careful to confirm who/what drinks the staff get whenever i rang the bell over there.
As for clothing, i tend to wear the same in LOS as i do in the UK, jeans+ t-shirt/polo shirt.

it is an insult to nicke and ead and their staff they will never rip you off , you really think so many board members show up every time if they try to hassle you. get real and tell us what is really going on maybe rejected by a girl or rude to the staff and they kicked you out maybe a girl that could not fullfill your dreams and and did not give your money back tell us the real reason for the attack on MTB and staff

I was in Bangkok last week, jeans and nice shirt was all you needed. For temples, long pants a must. In Patong, so hot, shorts and t-shirt and sandals all day and night.

He w@nker...... You don't tell the whole story and you sure put it out of perspective. Nobody tried to rip you off, it was simple a human mistake. And after you told the person who made the mistake it was solved directly... without questioning. People like u who make dumb accusations are not needed on this board. By saying "they" you accuse the whole bar of ripping you off including the owner and by doing that on a public board you also hurt the feelings of people involved. By posting this you show that you know nothing about Thai mentality and what "not loosing face" means to them. 2 post for you uptil now...... Please keep it that way. 99,99% of the BM agree with me when I say there is no way you will be ripped off at MTB. Mistakes can happen always.
Cheers,
Raval

The problem has been resolved now, so there is no need to comment further on this.

When we were in Patong for the Kings Birthday, we both wore yellow polo shirts out of respect and had several favourable coments from Thai people.
Respect doesn't cost anything (well, they were Lacoste fakes for 200 each!)
Also, when we went up to BKK, we went to the cinema to watch Casion Royale. Now, having been caught out in the past we remeembered not to get comfy till they played the national anthem so we could stand for it.
There was a farang and his Thai GF sitting in a row in front of us who did not stand up for the Anthem. When it was finished, a Thai girl nearby us went down and had words with them!!

I am a Scotsman preparing for my second holiday in Patong in mid January. I am planning to bring a lightweight "drinking kilt" with me. However, a bit worried about attracting too much attention, want some peace after all ! Anybody got any thoughts ?

Not having much experience in the kilt department I would say lightweight drinking would be the way to go.
One of your fellow countrymen who is a member here has been known to sport his kilt on occasion.
