Increased risk to get infected with HIV
This was published in a swedish newspaper and the text is roughly:
Increased risk to get infected by HIV in Thailand
Half of the Swedish who get infected by HIV during a trip outside Sweden get infected in Thailand, according to statistics from Smittskyddsinstitutet.
The reason is not only that Thailand is a popular destination, there are more infected people there now. Another reason is that the sex industry is big there.
About 40 people each year living in Sweden get infected by HIV during a trip abroad, writes Dagens Nyheter.

It's All About Common Sense...
I lived in Botswana, Africa for 2 and a half years - the country has something in the region of a 40% HIV infection rate. Like the Thai's they are not **** about sex and love it. In some places frequented by roaming working girls the rate was more like 100% at the Diamond mines and other such places.
Because I like my beers and my women I was always stressed out about HIV becuase as it goes the beer gets to your head and the women are hot for it and sometimes you forget or don't care to put a wellington on. I finally had a test done and God was smiling down on me with a negative thankfully.
The point I am trying to get at is when you live or visit and an area that has a high HIV rate you need to always wear a condom. I know myself that sometimes the booze can get the better of me but I always try anyway.
HIV/AIDS kills...
I have lost and still loose many good friends from it and there is no second chance - Damn I sound like a health board notice

There are plenty of straight Farang in Thailand who have HIV and are still active in the scene, if you don't wear protection then you are a total idiot.

40 swedish get it every year and half from thailand so thats 20 who get hiv from going to thailand.now how many 1000s actually go there?they forget to mention stuff like that so the story sounds more scary.even so rubbers are your safest bet and i am no way preaching unprotected sex.specially since i got an appointment at the clinic next week.

Yes, about 20 people get it from Thailand.
Of about 200,000 Swedish coming here every year I guess 80% or more is families or couples who are not involved with sex. And how many of the frequent travellers here are actually going to the clinic for testing themselves? I guess 99% don't go to the clinic for testing.
With that said, just be careful and think of safe sex, HIV is out there, it's easy to forget when you have a wonderful time in the paradise.

Safe Sex
I was always diligent when it came to wearing a parachute but over the past year became a bit lazy about wearing them and had quite a few shags in both Thailand and Vietnam where I didn't wear one. After initially refusing to go for a checkup for fear of a positive result I decided I had to know so went to the doctor. I came home from work one day and there was a message on my answering machine from the doctor telling me to come and see her ASAP about my test results. I turned white and rang the doctor at home as I didn't want to lay awake all night thinking about what I was going to be told the next day. I have never been so relieved as when the doctor told me I had only picked up a minor STD which was hardly noticeable and easily curable. I'll be back to my diligent ways next time as I consider myself rather fortunate to have gotten away with it. Giving it to one of the girls is also a concern, I'd never forgive mysef.

Always, always wear a condom. It shows respect for all of humanity to take this precaution. It can be a little inconvenient, but it beats spreading one of the worst diseases know to man. You also protect yourself when wearing your favorite brand. If you feel a little uptight about it, experminent with different colors or flavours. But please, wear one. It helps all of us.

This is a very scary topic, ive always found the girls ive been with are good at making you wear rubber which is useful after so much beer has been consumed!although im always careful after coming back from los i always get down the clinic for a full check up, and picking up the hiv results is very scary and it makes me put into question the logic of shagging ******s.
May the force be with you!

Dont want to be a preacher type but for me it has to be kept covered at all times.
The only other problem you might have then is if the thing splits while your enjoying yourself, which can happen .
Just proves the is NO 100% form of protection.

I agree I also put a parachute on every time.
Nicke
Do you have any idea about the percentage of infected girls in Patong?

I dont remeber any numbers but I think last time I saw numbers it was 1,200 HIV infected in Phuket, with an estimated 400,000 people living in Phuket. (The official population is 260,000 or something but lot of people are not registered in Phuket since they are registered at their home addresses in Isaan or elsewhere in Thailand.)

The amount sounds abit high but it does not say if they are bargirls, lady boys ,gays, or straight men.
don't forget that a lot of the lady boys were men before and how do you think they could afford to have all that surgery.I'm sure i have started a dodgy debat but as DM and other say. Alot have still some way to go before they end up as a women. There's only a few ways a lady boy can please you if she/ he has not had the snip, and thats with people using the dark side as they say. i may be totally wrong, but if they really want to be a women i'm sure there's some that do not get the customers to wear a jacket, just for that extra baht. Yes there's bargirls as well but i'm sure if a customer wants that then they just would go with another one.
You got to love the people who put out these statistics beacuse there not that detailed and as nicke say a lot do not go to the clinic to find out anyway.
any way you don't know who has it. good looking girls , ugly ones male and female in any country.
you just have to be care full as much as you can but if your unlucky then shit there nothing you can do about it.
I'll still be in Thailand in April and it would be a good debate if we meet up but i'm sure when your on holiday that's the last topic up for discussion. My debate is were the best bar girls and the best place at the moment.
lets see what some of the answer will be.

Nobody actually enjoys rubber sex with a condom on but its something you just gotta do , especially if you are a big butterfly , you can minimise risk if you are one of those who insists on not using condoms simply by taking 1 girl you like a lot for the duration of your stay but you are still playing a game of russian roulette and chancing death for sure , mind you every time you get on your bike you chance death too with all them crazy mother fcukers about.
Nicke ... i want to ask you about the bird flu while we are on the subject of diseases, any updates on the possibilty of this reaching phuket yet as its already in the nearby province of phang gna ?? are you yourself still eating the chicken ?? i really love that chicken bbq on sticks , its the perfect snack late at night when im drunk , so im wishing this bird flu had never happened .
what you think ? is it unsafe to eat or not ??

I agree, if anyone lets you have sex with them without a condom, who else are they letting do it to them that way?
