Hidden costs for BG's

Hello all........
Great board with some very invaluable and honest information.
None of us need to be detectives to know that there ar many things that go on behind the scenes that if it were not for speaking with the BG's we simply would not be aware of.

Not sure if this is true or not but it was told to me by 3 separate Sharky's girls. I have no proof of any of it and can only go by what was told to me.
On my 1st visit in May 2006 I thought it was extremely generous of "Breast lady"....I'll call her.....the manager.......to ring the bell so often at the bar throughout the night.
On my 2nd trip in November 2006 I found that "Breast lady" was once again merrrily ringing the bell. Judging by the number of drinkers in there every night I was of the opinion that the bar was making a lot of money and at 1000 baht a ring it didn't dip into the bar's profits too much.
I was later told on 3 separate occasions by 3 separate girls that every time the manager rings the bell, the 1000 baht doesn't come out of the bar's profit....it comes out of the collective money's earnt by the bar girls.
In effect it costs the bar girls every time.
And the school girl skirts they wear can only be bought off the manager through the bar and are 1000 baht each.......and they must have 7 of them.
These girls were not bitter and twisted, in fact they remained in the employ of Sharky's.
I saw another ex-Sharky's girl on my November trip working at a bar in Soi Eric and she told me the same thing. She also said that many girls who had left Sharky's did so because of disputes with management over just how much they were owed for lady drinks. Realistically who knows who to believe.
I still think Sharky's is a great place and I do enjoy it but I am aware now that the girls are possibly not all that well looked after. Still.....there are plenty of other bars for them to work at. And this may explain why there seems to be such a high turnover of staff.
Has anyone else heard of similar stories from Sharky's or other bars where there are hidden costs or problems.

Every bar and for that matter bar owner has their own way of doing business and dealing with the staff.

On the topic of ringing the bell, someone has to pay for the drinks, have never heard of this bill being paid for by using tip money before. Anything is possible, but I highly doubt it.

On the topic of uniforms, the staff must pay something for them, otherwise they will not respect them and will always be loosing them and wanting another one.

So do I - think chances of that being true are close to zero - someone been telling porkies me thinks.

I think you're under an illusion if you think it costs the owner of a bar 1000baht to ring the bell!

As for staff having to pay for uniforms. Pretty common . One of the gogos at Xmas all the girls were in red+white outfits which they said they'd had to pay for.

The only "illusion" I awas under was the drink called "illusion"
As i said twice in my original post I do not have any proof of what was told to me. I was only going by what the girls told me.
So how much would it cost to shout the bar? I know there are many factors to consider such as numbers in the bar at the time but I was wondering on average how much liquor would be required to make the appropriate number of shots as shots are all that have ever been served when I've been present during the ringing of the bell.

Ringing the bell will cost the customer at least 1,000baht if it's for the shots.

The actual cost to the barowner is a lot less. The difference is the profit to the barowner.

So far I've been with only one girl that spoke soso well of her mamasan and that's the latest teelak. But the rest pretty much told me horrible stories about this and that... Nevertheless you got the same info from 3-4 independant sources, I guess I would wonder my self too if it's true or not.

As for how much it cost them... Well, that would be the price of the bottle divided by the amount of booze (in cl) and then multiplied by the amount of shots served (also in cl)... I think

It wouldn't surprise me - I've heard some shocking stories from bg's about the behaviour of bar owners and the way they are treated (not all bar owners of course)

Not all bars have a set price for ringing the bell. Always ask first before you do so, if you are worried about the cost.
