Cambodia compared with Thailand
I had one good friend of mine come back from a 6 month world tour. All sorts of stops on his trip, Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand were right up there with the Maldives and places like that. His insight made it seem like 1/2 of my trip should be spent in Cambodia instead of fully in Thailand. If thats the scenario, does anyone have insight as to how Cambodia's nightlife scene (bars, girls, accomodation, laws) compares to Thailand and more specifically accomodation price and pricing in general?

Amazingly enough, at many of the ladybars, the girls are eager to sit, play games or shoot pool with you, and possibly go with you to hotel(or not), but don't ask you to buy them ladydrinks. I didn't see any gogo bars there. Both places have regular bars and discos. Lots of girls at the discos. Then there are also bars in Cambodia that are like regular bars, but with a lot of girls hanging out, looking for a "date." A little like Soi 7 beergarten in BKK, but looks more like a regular bar than that. At any rate, there are loads of girls, and the going rate is $15, which is sometimes negotiable, and can be for ST or LT, depending on what you want and how much you like each other. Hotel rooms are a little cheaper, IMHO, and generally go for $10 to $30. Cambodian beer is good and cheap, too. Especially the draft beer. Laws seem very loose. I was sitting in LeCyrcee bar, having a drink with a girl, and watching a Norwegian sitting at the bar. He had a girl's skirt up around her waist and was playing with her pussy and ass, while they joked and laughed. He turns to me, and hands me what I thought was a cigarette that he had rolled himself. It wasn't. It was a joint. I was a little taken aback, and asked if it was OK to do that there. He said in Cambodia, nobody gives a damn, as long as you are not making trouble for anybody, and are spending some money.

Great repport. I think I'll look more into this Cambodia scene. I still have to try Bangkok, Pattaya, Angeles City and now Cambodia too

i went a few bars in siem reap not a major bar scene but there are girls hanging around playing pool etc some are quite nice, there not hardened they just want a little pocket money , one quote my ugly aussie freind $25 usd for LT , i think if i asked i could have got it cheaper but 25 is very cheap.... twat screwed it up though and asks her in a matter of fact way ' but you ladybody ' ??? drunken twat , she went off never to return

 I just want to add that Cambodia (only PP in my case) is a must see, and not comparable to much. Coming from Thailand to Cambo is like coming from Scandinavia to LOS for the fist time. I totally loved the place and hope to explore the country further soon.

I travelled through Cambodia twice last year and really loved the place, being a true third world country the place has a bit of an "edge", which I don't mind. I actually find the Khmer girls sexier than their Thai counterparts, by far the best sex I have ever had was in Phnom Penh. The whole bar scene is much different to Thailand. The girls aren't so in your face and you don't pay barfines, though I never actually found any gogo bars. Steer clear of the straight-out knockshops, not much quality to choose from in those places. There are plenty of bars in Phnom Penh to choose from, only thing I found annoying though is that not all the girls are available, nothing worse than buying a couple of ladydrinks and playing pool for an hour only to be told that "she not go home with man". Bars I'd recommend are Sharky's, Shanghai, and Zanzibar. The local Angkor draft is a top beer and all the bars have Beerlao (my personal favourite). If you want to stay out late try the notorious Heart of Darkness in street 51, in fact you'll no doubt end up there sometime if you're in PP for a while. This place is open till dawn and is a curious mix of BM's, backpackers, tourists of all persuasions, freelancers and rich Khmers. A word of warning though, do not fu@k with the Khmer guys in this place, I witnessed a particularly nasty attack on a falang patron and the perpertrator didn't even get thrown out. The place has had a couple of murders in the past year or two and the Khmers are known to bring their bodyguards with them. Don't let this scare you though, it's definitely worth a look.
If you like guns the shooting range in PP is definitley worth a visit. Pistols, rifles, automatics, machine guns, grenades, rocket propelled grenades, if you want they've got it. I even got a live target, a duck. If you are in Cambodia for a while you have to go up to Siem Reap and visit Angkor Wat and all the other temples up there. If you want girl inSiem Reap there try Temple Bar, I found there wasn't much action anywhere until around 10 in the evening. A few words of warning, not that it needs to be said, but ALWAYS use a condom with girls in Cambodia, i was shocked how many of the girls don't care, I remember two specifically saying "condom no good"......frightening really. If you need any info/advice mate just PM me, I'm happy to help you out. I'm hoping to get back over there in July myself. The only drawback in Cambodia for me is that is it extremely difficult and risky finding a nice ladyboy, I like to mix things up a bit.

Thanks for also a great report and you seem to be an oracle when it comes to this place....
 I'd like to make a split trip LOS-Cambodia or maybe just Cambodia sometime July/August most probably the beginning of August as I'll go to los this comming March/April and so much holiday could be difficult to get if I'll travel again close to the end of year. And well, the idea came right after I read JB's post 5555555. Anyway, it seems like it would be idea to have the company of a person that knows how it works as maybe mistakes won't be so enjoyble to make as it's in Thailand, so that if you don't mind company I'll be happy to tag along  Quote:

Surprised no mention on Martini's - this is the legendary heart of Phnom Pehn (PP) night scene and probably the most bizarre disco/kareoke/resturant I've ever been too.
Did many Cambo trips 2000-04 and stopped going after Hun Sen (PM) ordered drastic sterilisation of nightlife in PP. JayBee and Premier highlighted some good places. The naughtier side of nightlife has migrated to Siam Reap and Sahanookville. Definitely recommend Sahanookville - southern coast town - great beaches.

Been in Cambo in 2005. Loved the FCC in Pnom Penh for a dring and watching sunset. Evening in Sharky's, Siem Reap in Martini's.
Anything to do in Sihanookville during daytime? Trips, golf, etc...?

I should add that I had the good fortune to have free accommodation in Phnom Penh at my brother's secure apartment and the use of his personal driver 24 hours a day. I'd go on huge benders and this poor guy would dutifully take me from bar to bar at all hours of the night, he'd even drop the girls home the next morning if asked. After a week of this I felt sorry for him and told him to drink with us rather than sit in the car, he ended up becoming a good mate of mine. Let's just say that drink driving is not really policed in Cambodia, in fact not much of anything is policed in Cambodia, though thankfully they seem to be busting a lot of pedophiles these days. Corruption is entrenched and accepted in Khmer society unfortunately, and don't bother hiring a car or moto, you'll no doubt be pulled over for some minor infraction and cash fines will be demanded. In fact the traffic in Cambodia is chaotic and downright scary. I drove to Siem Reap and back to PP with the driver and I can say that this was possibly the worst experience of my life, my nerves were totally shot half an hour into the journey, you really have to see it to believe it.
If you are into the gunja or any harder stuff you'll have no problems finding it in Phnom Penh. I find the choof in Thailand not even bothering with however the gear in Cambodia is pretty good, just ask the motodop's hanging around the bars, they'll help you out. With regard to expenses virtually everything in Cambodia is much cheaper than Thailand though they sting you $20 US for a Visa on the way in and $25 US on the way out. I could go on forever with warnings and the like but don't want to turn people off the place. Good reprots JayBee and Premier... Was going to go to Cambodia this year but decded to go back to Thailand. Although i dont regret my decision i still would love to head there so more than likely next year.

girls-unlike the other guys, i much prefer tg's. the whole scene squeals "desperation" to me. i felt the girls were dressed alot more shabby than their thai counterparts and alll in all, it felt more of a ******-punter scene
food-i liked the food. it almost tasted like chinese food we have in the states, although a little bland motorbike-i had a guy, black, that acted as my personal driver for 3 days. would sit outside my hotel and wait til i woke up and started my day, take me and wait at all the bars. all for about 5usd/day other foreigners-i did feel that the other foreigners and expats were of a lower class. that being said, i met a few nice people laws-i was smoking the funny stuff in every bar i went to

Condoms: I've been with many a TG/BG over hear that haven't been bothered about protection and I have insisted. Even in Bangla. was in cambodia 2 times last year.
i find the place very interesting. it's not as perfectly organized as thai but that gives it a special touch. people seem to be more natural and i felt that it's not so obvious that they only want your money. i had excatly the same problem like other bm's. you chat to bg for hours, buy drinks and at the end she tells you she is still virgin. i never met that many virgins :-) if you get too frustrated head to "sophies" in PP. it's a bj-bar but very run down... my favourite bars in PP would be sharky's, rose bar, dv8, heart of darkness and shanghai(even i met the virgin there). in shianoukville i can recommend "pocoloco-bar". it's run by 2 german guys and they have about 6 girls in there. they will go lt for just 10 usd. also have 2 pool tables. nice dicotheque right on the beach is "utopia". many backpackers there. of course, a must see is angkor wat. place to pick up FL in siam reap is "zoneone". they also have some massage places there for p4p. i think one of them is called "hollywood masage". also strongly advice to use condom. hiv-rate in cambodia very high. cheers m Last edited by Dr. M. : 11-01-2007 at 16:09.
