Watching footy

5 days to go and then I pull into Patong.....

Was wondering if anyone has any particular favourite spots for watching the footy?

I think last time I was there I watched it in the Irish Pub at the end of Bangla Road.

If you want to watch it in peace and still be in the middle of it I like Shipwreck, no hassle, big screen and friendly service.

There are a couple of bars in Soi Sansabai with really huge screens, saw them last time in town and thought might be good venue for watching the footie, hope they are still there when City finally get to a final of something.

Thumbs down The Devil's game

Footie is the curse of all holiday destinations.

If you are so interested in your local team then stay at home and watch it.

There is nothing more embarrssing to me as a Brit as seeing all these larger lout soccer types turning up in what was and still should be a great resort.

All may be true my good man but still sufficiently lucid to realise that 'soccer' is a word used on the North American continent. Furthermore not so befuddled that I can no longer correctly spell or punctuate three lines of colloquial English.
You, on the other hand seem to have considerable problems in this department. This coupled with your kneejerk sterotypical views implies that you are most likely the uneducated one.

I think you've missed the point , Dodger's 'sarcastic' remarks appear to be more about having a 'dig' at Crustasian's classification of 'lager louts'.

Ahhh.... you see that Crusty is a die-hard Rugby fan (Union I think!???), and like all other Rugby fans in the UK, he calls Ascocation Football, 'Soccer'.

So its not just Americans who call the English nationa gamel by the wrong name. I think it just wind football fans up, as they don't like it being called soccer. In reality, Americans should call there sport 'American Rugby' as it has more to do with the Rugby version of football, than the Ascocation one.

Football fans call these people "Egg chasers", as there ball looks like an egg!

Im in both camps, so it depends on which hat im wearing as to where I stay. In Rugby patong, or larger lout Kamala!

Sorry Boggler saw you were from Japan and Blighty assumed that only a Brit would call it Blighty, so fell into english sarcastic whit, especially as it was an opportunity to have a dig at Crusty who happens to be a really nice, down to earth, Irish guy who likes Rugby, still he is okay, as 3 out of 4 ain't bad!!!

Yeah had a look at the Shipwreck, looks a bit kind of small for my liking. I would ideally like to be somewhere a bit bigger for the 2 midday k.o.s tomorrow. Been into that Molly Malone's a couple of times. Not had the warmest welcome there though...........Maybe I'll try Scruffys. Anyway I'll be in MTB later. I'm difficult to miss so say hello. Thai people often think I'm Thai. I'm sure none of you'll make that mistake though!

The problem that I have with the 2 Irish bars is that they are quite good for Rugby watching, but football they are not suitable for. Wrong type of venue.

I used to watch games in MTB, or on the way down if an early kick-off. Of course this was mainly because I would have a 'friendly' bet with Chek! But I suppose it depends on what kind of venue you want!

The Yorkshire inn always had a few people in to watch most games when I walked past.
