Tiger Bar/Disco--Some Questions
What's it like? I understand Star World/Wars is closed, so maybe Tiger has filled the gap?
For those of us dreaming of LOS from Farangland I'd love a field report on Tiger, specifically:
Is it loaded with flers? If so, how's quality? Quantity?
Is it packed most every night?
What is the music like? Same as SW?
Are the waitresses there "in the game?" Bafana said he had some nice sanuk with one of them. Is that typical? How does one "approach" them as compared to a fl or bg?
Generally, your takes on Tiger as compared to Taipan (don't like the place AT ALL) and SW or Banana would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

SafeAs,
Thanks for the reply. I was frankly, however, hoping more for some specific opinions, and perhaps answers to my questions. I already know the place rocks, but again, was hoping for more specifics...
Cheers

Hope this helps...
Tiger defintely filled the gap by Star Club/Wars (ex awesome Shark) demise... in fact seems to us that Tiger actually killed off Star Club by letting 'girls' in free while Star Club tried to charge as Banana does.
If your after hostesses/waitresses then go early - 9.30-11.00pm - when there are not many customers and they might be especially open to 'offers' if your alone in there.
There are up to 200 freelancers in Tiger at the peak 1am ... seems hottest days are Thurs and Sat, but early weekdays are best for finding the hottest girls unattached. A fair trade from the lower bars below the club upsatirs goes on too and that is part of its success. From 12.00-2.00am it is always packed.
Quality varies wildly - defintely something for everyone, and like you Appollo have never like Taipan (although they've stopped ripping you off for drinks - now the standared 100 Bhat). There are far less stunners around these days anyway, but personality of Tiger gilrs is better than most other places.
Towards the closing time 2.30-3.00 then the girls will scramble to find a ATM (long time or ST) and if you havent found what your looking for by then it's probably best to haed off to Safari or Dragon.
Music is greatly improved, they have 3 DJ's doing 1 hour sets in rotation and music good mix of drm&base mainstream techno garage hip hop, if you go too regularly it all seems a bit too familier but we're impressed that they've taken the trouble in lestening to the customers and worked well in improving the music so its probably the best club in Patong now.
Miss the open gallery of old Star Club (Shark) - the dingy balcony round the table cluttered dance floor doesnt really let you have a good view of whats going on.
Anything we've missed out hope someone else can add upon.

SAT, Thanks! That's exactly the type of material I'm after. Based on you're post, I can say right now that Tiger will be my new favorite place. I actually quite like then-Star Wars, and was amazed that Taipan (dislike the place and especially the music) continually had more success.
In reference to the waitresses, may I ask, do you recommend just chatting them up and asking them back to your directly?

Thanks Appollo -
With the Tiger waitressess, in the days I used to go 'hunting' alone, I found that most of the girls would be very willing to be chatted up...although as they are allocated sections to serve, you might want to wander round a bit until you find a good 'prospect' and let her seet you in her 'zone', but this has woked best in the earleir hours as after 11.30pm there are too many customers for them to have time to chat with you. Most have been working at various places before (Shark/Star Club etc) and if not many have sisters/cousins ... options worth exploring.
Note also that Dragon Disco (new place near Soi Gonzo) also has lots of waitresses that are alos an option, and if anything cuter, although not taken any on (yet). Dragon caters for a post Tiger crowd and so far keeps open pretty late ..enough said.
Thoery on why TaiPan has so many 'customers' .. the girls get perks, note the little coupons they get (these used to worth 20 Bhat or 5 for a free drink for the girl), some system still goes on as almost all girls who've been 'working' a long time in Pating will inevidably try and get you take them there. Still have to say it has improved, although IMHO will never really be more than a dance club rather than a disco.
Happy Partying all!
PS Anyone checked out the new Crocadile Club yet??

Would it be possible to give us some info about the closing time these days of the discos in Phuket.
I remember 6 weeks ago Thai closing times were a hot topic on this forum.
Thanks in advance.

The latest I have heard regarding bars, not discos.
Bangkok 1:00 am (Patpong 02)
Koh Samui 1:30 am
Phuket 3:00 am
But in Patong disco like Dragon still close around 05-06 in the morning.

SAT - Dragon sounds fun. Still cannot get a feel of exactly where it's located. Is it inside Soi Gonzo? I'm guessing it's smaller than Tiger, Taipan, and Banana. Correct?
Nicke - Wow. Didn't realize that you guys can now stay open until 3am. Hope that's good for your business!

Re: Closing Times
It is not a very smart idea to discuss these on this 'open to all' site .... pretty sure there could be someone who will use such information in an adverse way. Far better to send PM if wanted, but better to just make things better by making allusions to which places which stay open later than others.
Please take this advice seriously as Shark Club was shut down because someone took an alleged lewd photo and he lost over USD 1 million in the process - there are those out there with other agendas, please dont give these people ammunition to turn Phuket into a sterile wasteland.
I'm sure when you get here if you go ask Nicke at Mai Tai bar, he'll be happy to let anyone know whats open later and where.

Point well taken, but that's not what I heard re Shark's demise. Moreover, I'm sure the real reasons for it were more complex than one allegedly lewd photograph. Your point, however, is no less valid.

Just for the record and yes the real reasons were more complex but things when go wrong here it can get very nasty very quickly, this is not the West and foreigners dont really have any real rights!
This is real old from the Phuket Gazette, but clearly shows what happened to Shark alas.
Tuesday, February 19, 2002
Shark Club boss kicked out of Thailand
PATONG: Kevin Radke, manager-shareholder of Patong’s Shark Club, was expelled from Thailand on Friday and was told he will not be allowed back into the country, after authorities decided his activities on the island were in conflict with Thai morals.
Pol Col Apirak Hongtong, Superintendent of Phuket Immigration Police, told the Gazette that the police cancelled Mr Radke’s visa on Friday.
Governor CEO Pongpayome Vasaputi ordered the Shark Club closed on January 30 after it was discovered that the operating license for the disco – which can hold more than 1,500 revelers – contained irregularities and had, in any case, expired. Gov Pongpayome said that it would not be renewed.
The check on the license followed the publication in Thai newspapers of photographs showing girls dancing topless in the club, and a game in which male customers knelt with their hands behind their backs, eating ice cream out of cups gripped between girls’ thighs.
Mr Radke could not be reached today, and on Saturday, Governor CEO Pongpayome Vasaputi declined to comment about Mr Radke’s expulsion.
However, when asked why the Shark had been closed while other entertainment venues featuring nude shows, and places such as massage parlors, remained untouched, he said, “We have the power to close such places whenever we wish. But we want to tackle the problem step by step.”
Note:- Shark/Star Club etc etc will be reborn yet again next month as a Thai style music club ... guess along the lines of the Galaxy Club but a lot bigger.

Sorry about my question. But what is the official legal closing time then right now for Tiger?
Nick
What about offficial closing time for the bars?
If it's still two o'clock for both bars and discotheques, then nothing has changed I believe?

SAT, thanks for posting the story--missed it first time around. Sounds like a good deal of politics to me. That said, I remember them running a rather tight ship at Star Wars (which was fine with me). One night, a fl came in wearing a bra only, plus pants. She was promptly asked to cover herself or leave. Suppose, however, that tighter ship didn't make money...

Nickes earlier post here is accurate at present, but OFFICIALLY ALL entertaiment venues are supposed to close at 2AM (including Tiger) ... this is widely interpreted as stopping serving drinks at 2AM and an hour or so to finish up.
Lets hope that 'some places' do stay open to cater for those insomniacs/party lovers out there, but things are always in a state of flux. Things very much gone back to way they've been over last 2 years - alas not as good as 3+ years ago, but with National election next year and complete flop of trying to kill off the 'spicy' entertainment industry would guesstimate that things will be left alone.
Note - Singapore consdidering legalising gambling, if they do then look for a very rapid shift in Thai policy on all entertainment otherwise the 'Unseen Thailand' campagne will become a lot more literal!!!!!

Taipan
Regarding the Taipan coupons,
What they do is give out loads of coupons with drinks orders and then at 1 or 2am there is a draw and the winning ticket takes home 5000 baht- which to most Thais is a useful sum.
Do not be surprised if your BG is keen to take you there on the way back to the hotel.. and wants to stay till the draw...a trap to be avoided unless your up for it.

I'll avoid that trap by simply avoiding Taipan altogether...
