Honestly, I'm conceited enough to really enjoy the commotion. (Yes, I still belive it when they call me "Hansum Man") However, when going to the bathroom in Soi Eric, and one girl locks her arms around you from the front, and another grabs you from behind, and both try to manhandle you into their bar, it pays to outmass them by half. Still, smiling, saying No, No and shaking your head while moving forward usually works. If not, Active Hands, seeking out various female attributes and squeezing, usually clears the road.

I got the same experience. If you enter Soi Seadragon halfway on the right side, let's the bar in the house nearly opposite Hells Bells, there are some realy pests girls not letting of. They are no fun anymore.

I used to wear a t-shirt with the Brazilian flag on it, and (I assume) that the BGs thought that I was from Brazil. And since they don't speak any Portugese they can't really converse with me, so they left me alone. It worked for me!
However, if there was any BG which 'tickled my fancy' then I could speak to them in English and take it from there.

Yes, I can relate to many of the situations described. I agree I generally don't mind the attention, though sometimes there can be some overly tenacious girls out there, like the ones on the righthand side, halfway down Sea Dragon. I think it's either the "4 Chang beers for 180" bar, or next to that bar. There's one girl there that behaves like (and looks like) a Rugby quarterback.
I usually go with the "bpai hong naam" - "going to the toilet" response (and make it look as if it's urgent!!), or alternatively "I'm going to see my girlfriend.....over there" - the latter can be a bit worrying to them, because they don't want trouble with another BG. Also, by pointing somewhere else it causes momentary confusion, giving you the chance to break free, or dodge round them.
I must admit I do get irritated by the - no sooner have you sat down and your drink arrived, than some girl sits next to you, and immediately asks to buy her a drink. Ok, if I've been there 10 minutes or more and she's been entertaining me, then I can understand it. I realise that it's their living and they are under pressure to meet targets. I particulalry dislike it when a sweet young thing has just sat down with me and I'm still assessing if she could be the one, when some battle scarred veteran behind the bar, gives the shaking wrist sign and asks "you buy her drink?".
As someone said above, as there are so many bars, one can't afford to drink in them all, so you have to be failry discriminating as to where you want to drink and similarly selective as to who (or how many) you can buy drinks for.
It's not as if the drinks are at bargain basement prices either! I want to establish if there is a genuine rapport with the girl, before I buy her a drink, or whether she is just milking me, before moving off onto the next punter. So yes, I too use the "maybe later", or "I've only just sat down, and don't know who I like yet" type replies.
I don't like the tactic they use, of putting the prettiest one out the front, who leads you inside, sits you down, takes your drink order, then goes back out the front, leaving the ugliest one to come and sit with you. I consider that as "deception"!! If she is going to come in with you, then she should sit with you. Otherwise another girl should invite/lead you inside in the first place.

The one grabby bar in sea Dragon is starting to piss me off. I just tend not to go down that side of the Soi now.

the grabs never really bugged me
what really bugs me is that one bg that will ask you for a drink and still sit and stare at you after you said no

Learning to say 'no' can be figured, feeling okay about it is not so easy. I justify it in my head, feck I live here and they know, so why keep asking, but the little look and I get an uncomfortable feeling, enough that I will avoid bars who actively promote this.
Never got this in Cambodia and the girls would sit with you all night and never ask for a drink, wondered if it was a Cambodia thing or just a newer scene and they havn't figured it yet.

If i am not intrested in being pulled into another bar, i just take all feeling from my face and nod no. The girls tend to leave you alone because you look like a right moody cnut..... But don't knock it, it works lol.

OH, "The HOOK" ( not ******) ...been there, done that! Go to LOS enuff and you can pick them for what they do straight up...( The 1 next to MTB is losing her suia looks rapidly , nah?)
Use the 'grabber' to yer advantage lads....spot the BG you like and allow the ladies to accost you, I mean deliberately head to the loo via her way ...look around once the BGs are all over you and lock eyes on 'the one' and say," Kor toat (Sorry) I WANT to talk to THAT lady, "' and walk straight over to her. She will get such big face! it will be really hard for her NOT to follow thru with you...
Most girls will let go of you if you start touchin her up, dont you agree Dodge?
Remember her friends are watching and even BGs have some level of decorum...Ive even picked a really persistant 1 up and put her over my shoulder and she was screaming for me to let her go by the time we got to the Hong Narm (loo) and her friends were pissing themselves!
Just keep it sanuk (jovial) and they will pass the time with a laugh as Thais love to do...
It is , honestly, nothing but fun and I have NEVER felt anything but humour about it all....Ive waltzed, tried to french kiss them , carried them , tried to empty my Singha down their throats, ACCOSTED THEM!, stopped and asked to be accosted, tried to drag them back to the MTB without a 'deal' being made, ...you name it.
...never had a problem and they sorta leave me alone in Eric and Sea Dragon nowadays...

Reminds me of One Night in Bangkok, walking down Soi Cowboy and a little kid selling flowers came towards me. I pulled off a great slide, juke move, then a spin move the other way. Only a move Walter Payton could pull off, but when I came back around the kid was right in front me, with his flowers, so I bought some flowers that night.

i have to laugh at some of your responses , i think ill take some of them on board, i dont mind being grabbed as long as its a hottie but most the time the desperate grabbers are like pint sized sumos not my cup of tea...
As for not buying drinks im not stingy but if i go to lots of bars it all adds up, i dont really like it when a girl asks for a drink straight away or as someone mentioned , when the old horse behind the bar makes that gesture you buy her drink , I would like to tell her what i really think (suck my XXXX), but fear getting my ass kicked my a 15 stone thai women

YOUR FEARS ARE WELL FOUNDED!
Thailand is living proof that saying no doesnt have to be a negative experience. Just put on your winning smile and say 'no' or 'mai ow kup' ( I not take/do thanks)...its easy once youve done it once.
Some people worry about the "Cheap Charlie" retort but thats very rare...Geez, Easyrider , a regular poster here announces hes a cheap charlie
loudly and the B#stard always seems to get a better deal than i do...555

If the girls make a grab for me while I'm cruising I just throw an arm around one and tow her along a little way as a shield, tell her I've no money but she can go with me anyway.
Just lay on some "sanuk" and she'll break off before we get too far from her bar.

I always find a quick punch to the carotid artery usually does the trick and renders them unconscious for long enough to lose their grip. This response does however have a few drawbacks.
