Visakha Bucha Day - Public Holiday

Quote:
It is a day to commemorate three important incidents: the birth, the enlightenment and the passing away of the Buddha. Miraculously, these events fell in the same month and on the same date in the Buddhist era.

From the gazette.

Its Visakha Bucha Day on the 31st - that's the reason for the closures.

There isn't one day in Patong that when the bars were closed I went sober to bed. Allways some places to drink. I know about 3-4 on beach road alone.

That's right Captain...................I've lost count of the times the bars were supposed to be closed & no alcohol allowed to be served, due to a certain holiday.

I respect bm bar owners, that comply with the local rules.......

It's unfortunate that I have to patronise other businesses, that aren't bm owned.

Best day out if you have some BG mates is to go round their room with an couple of bottles- a lot of them are completely different away from work when the can be 'themselves' again. Have had some of my best days out here when the bars are closed.

Buddha's birthday is celebrated this week (24th), so i get a weeks holiday for 4 days off work. Back in Hong Kong next week so I miss the bars closing.
That's what I call great planning.

Bar Closure Thursday 31st May

Hi Guy I am arriving Thursday the 31st May.

My friend arrived today and he phoned me and told me that all the bars will be closed on Thursday. Could somebody inform me if this is correct?

This happened to me last year the day I arrived nothing was open. I think it was the kings anniversory.

It will be a dissapointment if this is correct.

The manager of Ned Kellys pub told him today.

Cheers for your help

Thanks major tom

I just found another thread on the topic

A little dissapointing but I will find somewhere to drink.
Last year we got talking to a few girls at dinner, they had friends who owned a hairdressing salon. We ended up spending most of the eveing there. They had a bar outside the salon and sold us beer from there.

We then went to the bar next to Tiger which opened about midnight to finish off the night.

Must be tough Geir, having to close your business when you dont even know why!...The local butcher will suffer as well, what with all that meat consumed at your place...
