Thumbs down Sober Zones

Parliament orders sober-zones

Bangkok Post

The National Legislative Assembly has suddenly proposed a total ban on drinking alcohol at temples, hospitals, places of medical services, drug stores, public offices and educational institutions - to be expanded later (which is the bit that really worries me).

Spokesman Tuang Anthacha of the ad-hoc NLA committee which passed the proposal said the selective ban could be expanded at any time by "relevant ministers" or by a new Alcohol Control Policy Committee ordered by the new law.

Under the draft bill, the alcohol consumption ban would not extend to private residences, clubs or parties.

A 31-member panel was formed to deliberate the cabinet-sponsored bill after the NLA on March 29 approved it in principle.

The designation of alcohol-free zones is the first aspect of the controversial bill to pass deliberation by the NLA.

The committee yesterday concluded Section 28 which bars all marketing activities of alcohol products, ranging from free samples, price cuts, free gifts and lucky draws to the redemption of product packagings.

The committee also added a ban on tie-in sales to Section 28.

The panel agreed to Section 25 whereby alcohol manufacturers and importers must put health warnings on product packaging. The current health warnings only indicate that alcohol consumption hinders driving ability.

Any violators of Section 25 would face a one-year jail term or a maximum of a 100,000 baht fine or both. The fine has been raised from 20,000 baht in the government-approved draft.

Mr Tuang said there are three issues left in the draft bill's deliberation - the make-up and authority of the liquor product-related policy committee, an alcohol control committee, and a total ban on alcohol advertising, which is the most controversial aspect of the bill.

The bill, passed by the cabinet in March, aims to reduce alcoholic beverage consumption. It also raises the minimum age for buying alcohol from 18 to 20

Thailand is getting as bad as the UK with Tony Blairs Left Wing Looneys.

I saw from the news this morning that Smoking will soon be banned in UK homes, 30 minutes before a governement official arrives in your house and you will have to open all your windows.

Its already illegal to drink in public places, and uh, drinking in hospitals, temples, drugstores? I gotta say, none of those places makes me wanna party.

Yes that Thatcher Like PM Tony Bliar or should we just drop the B and call him a liar.

The biggest human rights exponent in the Government is the PM wife's Cherie Booth; she makes millions from it with her law firm and she was the one who insisted it was rail roaded into legislation and she benefits, she then spends the rest of her time free loading off trips and holidays

Tough on crime, tough on the causes of crime, police filling in forms all day to meet Politically Correct targets and stop nicking villains as crime rises; we must respect the rights of the criminals as well

Human rights for the criminals, no rights for the victims

prisoners given open jails parole and playsations, they have right you know we should not offend them

pedophiles released because they are actually just 'miss-understood maladjusted members of society'

Abu Hanza the convicted terrorist given £100k per year and a state home for free and allowed to stop traffic whilst preaching his hatred outside Finsbury Park Mosque whilst burning the national flag and calling for the death of Tony Liar; and what do we do???????? nothing, he has human rights you know!

Funds diverted to immigrants housing and benefits as tax rises for everyone else

Schools, Hospitals, Local communities forced to spend £millions on offering their services in 12 languages, whilst their staff have their 'lights punched out' by their customers and their staff too afraid to do anything unless they have followed the PC procedures and then the Police (who can;t turn up because they are at a Health and Safety call out where someone has almost broken a finger nail) are too afraid to prosecute because they will be accused of sexism, ageism, racistm, localism etc etc.

one new law introduced every 7 hours for the past 1o years, none of them adding any value, but stripping the economy of rights and values, instead having values imposed in a Nanny State. 10,000 new laws (most of them human rights or employment related) in 10 years

and so it goes and so it goes. The NHS is a ****ing joke political correct left wing target after target!!!!!

Nationalism is almost a swear word, the Red Cross has been banned as has Christmas in many councils for fear or offending the minority. It is now a Seasonal Holiday.

Our identity is being stolen by left wing loonies obsessed with political correctness aimed at creating a La La society where nothing works and we all love each other, take in the homeless, give our earnings in tax to the governement to spend on helping immigrant and criminals who have been less fortunate than we have because they did not get the same opportunities that we did, as we stand by and ridicule them with our offensive Christian celebrations on December 25th, shame on us all!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have no idea what any of these mean so please dont get offended I just liked using them

Ok, reasons why Tony Blair and Political Correctness are not left wing.

Yes that Thatcher Like PM Tony Bliar or should we just drop the B and call him a liar.

Well we agree. he is indeed Thatcher like and his reputation as a liar comes from lying about WMD and 45 minutes to deployment to cement his Thatcher like role as a client of the USA. As such, RIGHT WING.

The biggest human rights exponent in the Government is the PM wife's Cherie Booth; she makes millions from it with her law firm and she was the one who insisted it was rail roaded into legislation and she benefits, she then spends the rest of her time free loading off trips and holidays.

Cherie Booth is not part of the government. She is a lawyer and it`s her job to take cases whatever her personal views. She has on occasion represented the employers in employment rights cases. The European convention on human rights, which is what I think you are referring (to?), is part of Britains obligation as part of the EU and therefore many governments have signed up, not just the UK. I cant stand Blair and all he stands for, but to suggest he changed government policy to get his wife a bit more work is a wacky conspiracy theory in the extreme.

The point is however moot as this government has introduced legislation that has fundamentally attacked liberties and is keen to introduce more. As such it is RIGHT WING.

All public and private services are more and more target driven, it`s part of a drive to micromanage people behavior from central government. RIGHT WING
Parole is being considered because the courts are sending record numbers of people to prison for longer.RIGHT WING

pedophiles released because they are actually just 'miss-understood maladjusted members of society'

Are you saying that criminals should have no rights? Lets say barfine a nice young lady and take her to your room. The police are tipped of and it turns out she is 17. You are in a lot of trouble Mr!
Before and after trial I`m sure you would expect certain rights? To be fed and clothed reasonably. To receive visitors and have legal representation. To not be beaten up to extract a confession or for the guards sadistic amusement.
But no, you don`t deserve them you dirty sex criminal, you have no rights – and anyone that stands up for you is a `loony leftie` who is `soft on crime`.

Funds diverted to immigrants housing and benefits as tax rises for everyone else

Whilst a certain amount is spent on refugees – and quite rightly so – the figure is paltry as a portion of GNP or even tax spend. I fact the reality is that ordinary working people – through taxes they can`t avoid – pay for everything in this country. Meanwhile the rich pay hardly any tax at all. Thatchers government raised the overall tax burden for the average family to redistribute it to the rich. Blair has continued this trickle up (or rather torrent) of wealth from the less well off to the rich. RIGHT WING

Funnily enough I was talking yesterday to a retired nurse who said things in AE weren`t like they were in her her day when they just had to put up with violence against them, rather than now where they follow procedures and get the police involved.

In terms of languages, etc, it’s a matter of common sense that you translate important documents, signs etc where there is a significant community that doesn`t speak the language well. Isn`t it nice that your Thai Visa forms, or signs in the hospital are translated in to English?

However, I would`nt expect them to be available in Serbocroat, Albanian, or any other language that only has a couple of visitors a year to Phuket.

The multiplexity of forms is a fetishisation of multiculturalism. Multiculturalism seeks to divide people on ethnic lines. It promotes victimhood and therefore passivity as people have to divide themselves on ethnic lines to scramble for meager resources. It promotes racism, as one group is always suspicious that the other is getting `more than their fair share`. Multiculturalism stands fundamentally opposed to intergration. RIGHT WING

one new law introduced every 7 hours for the past 1o years, none of them adding any value, but stripping the economy of rights and values, instead having values imposed in a Nanny State. 10,000 new laws (most of them human rights or employment related) in 10 years

Dealt with earlier. RIGHT WING

Nationalism is almost a swear word, the Red Cross has been banned as has Christmas in many councils for fear or offending the minority. It is now a Seasonal Holiday.

I think the Red Cross would be very surprised to hear that they had been banned, as would Santa and the Reindeer. The last time I looked Red Cross offices were open, and my pub was all trimmed out at Xmas time.

I remember reading somewhere that it had been reported that SOME (idiotic)councilors in ONE council had discussed the idea that calling Christmas `Christmas` might offend muslims. Without even being policy the story was run by a tabloid – probably the Daily Mail which I suspect you get most of this nonsense from – and distorted to high heaven. The leader of the local Mosque didn`t know what the fuss was all about, he hadn`t been asked if he found Christmas offensive, and as it was a religious holiday, why should he?

Our identity is being stolen by left wing loonies obsessed with political correctness aimed at creating a La La society where nothing works and we all love each other,

I cant decipher any meaning in that sentence, I`m sorry.

take in the homeless,

In his 10 or so wasted years, Blairs government has done only 3 worthwhile things,
1. Handing control of the interest rates to the BOE
2. The minimum wage (low as it is)
3. The rough sleepers initiative, which has got many homeless into accommodation.
What the hell is wrong with getting the homeless off the streets?

give our earnings in tax to the government to spend on helping immigrant and criminals who have been less fortunate than we have because they did not get the same opportunities that we did, as we stand by and ridicule them with our offensive Christian celebrations on December 25th, shame on us all!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dealt with earlier.

I was moved to respond to your post partly because the `arguments` you put forward are symptomatic of the poor state of political dialogue in post Thatcher Britain.

Blair has continued Thatchers drive to privatize and redistribute wealth to the rich. The attack on liberties continues. We have gone from Thatchers bludgeon of anti union laws and riot police against union members evolving in to Blairs pernicious `performance indicators`, bans on smoking, and `self censorship of language for fear of causing offence`.
The aim is to reduce us to whingeing, atomized, passive individuals with a victim complex. If your post is anything to go by, they are succeeding.

Well this has been a long post, but I felt some things needed clarifying. As such I won`t be posting again on this thread. If you`d like some further reading on the whole PC project, you could pay a visit to sp!ked

I`ll probably be in LOS over Christmas, if I bump into you I`ll buy you a pint. If the subject of Blair comes up we can agree on what a twat he is and if you get overheated and faint don`t worry, I have first aid training from the Red Cross.
