Thailand vs. Philippines

OK, I expect there to be biased opinion here...BUT

My current situation is that I am a foreigner living and working in the Philippines. My work visa is FINALLY gonig through, which means that I get to plan my first trip.

I've started doing the research and narrowed it down to Thailand, Vietnam or Hong Kong. Naturally I have an extreme love of bars (I live in Makati and visit Angeles and Sabang quite often) so I am leaning towards Thailand.

Being as un-biased as possible, I was hoping to get a few peoples insight of a comparison of the two on the bar level AND on the daytime activity level. Pro's and Con's of each country and the nightlife.

Before someone yells at me, I did a search for this topic and there wasn't much on it. Alot of people asking questions about things over here, so if that is the case I will be happy to answer.

On my last visit to Angeles, there was showing there, but in Thailand (officially that is) there is no showing.

Food in Thailand is FAR better than food in PI.

I find the Thai ladies more attractive than the ladies in PI, but then I find the Vietnamese ladies even better than Thai ladies.

Thailand has Singha, PI has San Miguel. But the local rum (forget the name) in PI is great, almost on par with Bundaberg from Oz.

PI used to be cheaper than Thailand, but the gap appears to have closed over the years, and both are about the same now.

Havn't been to Vietnam for years, but good bar scene, and the ladies are gorgeous and extremely friendly.

Hong Kong, take out a 2nd mortage before you out on the town there.

If it where me in your position, I would visit Saigon.

Just my 2c worth.

Thailand for me

Hi Trance,
I have visited Vietnam 2 times in the last couple of years. I have a mate who works in Saigon so I got to visit the bar scene. During the day his girlfriend took me around on her motorbike to show me the sights.
I found the bar/nightclub scene very lively but!!!! unless you stay in an hotel that is paying the cops off you cannot take a Vietnamese back to you room. What I had to do sometimes was pay for 2 rooms.
People have been busted for this although you can pay off the cops.
My mate from Saigon goes to Thailand about once every couple of months for some Thai lovin as he calls it and he has a very attractive Vietnamese girlfriend.
I think the Thai women are more attractive than the Vietnamese women and for me Thailand is much more laid back.
Didn't find much difference in the price of food, accomodation etc and I travelled from South to North of Vietnam.
The girls in Saigon are much prettier than the girls in Hanoi IMHO.
For me if I was a backpacker I would go to Vietnam but as far as the holiday/bar scene goes Thailand is the place for me.
I also had to get a visa for Vietnam from the embassy in Australia for each trip and they aren't cheap whereas in Thailand I can just rock up.
But, as the girls say in Thailand - Up to you-

If by showing you mean nekkidness, there isn't supposed to be any here either. Enforcement has just gotten more laxed lately.

OK, well as I said it was quite a few years ago, but I heard from friends that its basically the same scene. Here's a few select highlights

My mate and I had just arrived in Saigon from Bangkok, found a room each, bloody expensive from memory for something basic. Then went to check the local seen out.

We stop at one of the first bars we found a few streets walk away from the hotel. Walked in and ordered a couple of beers, and they were ice cold. After abit I asked the barman about some food, and he presented a basic farang type menu, with sandwiches and the usual fare on it.

No way, we want local food. So off this guys goes, leaving me and my mate all alone in this bar, and finally arrives back with a couple bowls of the local dish pho (sp??)

I start eating it, and then within minutes this gorgeous little thing appears behind the bar, and takes the chopsticks and spoon off me, and starts feeding me. I look at my mate, and what the fcuk, OK I can play along with
this.

After the food was done, she asked was there anything else we needed. Seeing as we had only be Saigon now for about 1.5 hours and it was only 3pm, we said we would come back later.

Off down the street further and walked into another little bar. The most gorgeous pretty thing I have ever seen, with a great pair of tits, was sitting at the cashier.

We sit down at the bar, and she somes over and says straight up "You drink snake wine, and then we go upstairs and make love" How could I resist. Had a shot of this snake wine, the first of many, and then went for a walk upstairs. Cost USD2.

Afterwards this elderly guy comes over and we get talking. We ask him about the snake wine, and he says that it really is made with snakes. He takes us out the back, and there is this huge glass vat filled with dark liquid. I can make out some sort of vegetables or roots in the vat, and then also about 4 or 5 Cobra snakes.

Anyway the rest of trip went on like this, and we visited this little bar everyday, and consumed god knows how much snake wine, and Vietnamese pussy.

I would recommend anyone to visit Saigon, will get back there myelf one of these days.

I have seen a few Vietnamese girls but the ones I have seen in HK have been nothing special, maybe the best looking ones stay at home?

The phillipino girls in HK are not too my personal taste, they tent to be small and dark skinned with flat noses.

You get some very pretty HK girls, have one myself Some of the Thai girls I saw on my recent trip to Thailand looked great.
