Talking Bars open to 4am

I was down town last night and ws told by several bar bosses that there had been a big meeting in the afternoon with the bars and the police.

The out come is that the police have told the Bangla bars that they can now stay open to 4am.

I am not sure if this is town wide or only the Bangla entertainment zone but I did hang around last night to check out the Bangla theory.Sure enough - all bars open till 4am.

This means that when I close at 2am I can still get a decent drink or two down town without rushing it.

Incidently - me and Bobby Suks left the last bar in broad daylight at 7am.

I LOVE THIS JOB

Oh that helps my headaches!!!

Wonder if this will be a big trade down turn for Safari, because I used to only go there in days of old because when the bars shut at 2 I could carry on there til daylight, no need now.

Is this more than likely to be a 'low season' measure to help businesses along?

There's a new Police Superintendent in town apparently. I also heard him say that he's going to be concentrating on underage drinking and kids frequenting nightclubs. I guess if anything outside bangla is open past 2am then they can close them down.

Trying to monitor the underage drinking while assisting the tourism increase...

Looks like the first copper in charge concentrating on the right things and helping bar owners.

i'm sure the other discotheques will not be to happy either, ie tai pan, seduction

At least there be able to see the underage drinks because im sure there be alot less frangs in them.

The new police boss also talked about young girls working, that girls should be 20+. tourists should be able to get a temporary driver license instead of being fined, and that bars should respect closing times in their areas etc.

He dont seem to know too much, people with a national driver license havent been fined for a long time althought by law an int driver license/permit is required by law.

The new police boss do seems to have tourists in mind, so overall the new boss care about tourists and tourism businesses.

Good to see Crusty and Nicke - looks like common sense prevailing and I dont have a problem with them targeting the u/age element.

Good luck to the new police boss.

Not much happening in Pattaya after 2am IMO.. I have given it a few tries now. You can always find somewhere to drink, but most of the action seems to end too early for me there.

Bash Pattaya

Erik, you just head out earlier.

It works in BKK & Pattaya............No reason it cannot work in Phuket.

I think its more about what you are into.....if you like go-go-bars and discos, you go t Patts, if you like beer-bars you go somewhere else.........
Got some interesting input lately from first or second-timers that tell me the same thing........Been to Bangkok, ok for a few nights, never to Patts, but I will try to get the time to have a look for myself.....what Ive heard so far, I dont think I would like it.......But its probably worth a try

There is a piece for everybody. I dont like Pattaya personally but sure a lot of people do. I found Phuket to be slightly more upmarket and have more decent people than pattaya. IMHO.

I havent been to Pattaya for many years so I dont know the current situation...

I'd say, that's a pretty fair appraisal, Nicke.

Lot's of scary types, in Pattaya.

But for (mongering), I'd have to give the honor's to Patt's.

Some of the bars in Patts are open until 4am or so....but there is always a nightclub open.......after Marine1 closes around 2-3am.....depends on the cops....everyone piles out and goes to either Marine2 which is around the corner and empty until 3am or Insomnia....both go until daylight......

I would compare the nightclubs in Phuket pretty favourably to the mainstream Pataya ones.....Tapan + Tiger would be close to Marine1 and Lucifer....if it's gogos you are after Patts wins hands down....and for beer bars Phuket wins hands down......

If ya wanna strictly monger Patts wins.....if you want good company and friendships you can't beat our fellow BMs bars in Phuket....MTB, Helles Belles + Faulty Towers and Dingo's....

For beaches and daytime activities Phuket wins by a country mile......and Nicke + Pablo are spot on about the relative people each place attracts.....Patts is full of weirdos

My very first trip to Pattaya (about 2 yrs ago), I arrived at my hotel around 12:30AM.

Did a quick walk down to Walking Street (trying to catch a beer or two, before closing time).

Many of the "beer bars" were open until WAY after 2:00AM. It seemed like the Ago Go's were the only ones closing early.

Found a bar (and lady), and drank beer until 08:00AM...right on WS.
