How to avoid joiner fee

If I book a room at a hotel for two people, will I be able to avoid being charged a joiner fee? This worked for me in Chiang Mai. I was stopped by security, but he looked in a sheet to see I booked for two people.

Some times that works. Booking for to assures that two can check in, not necessary a guest.
I have done the same and on a couple of occasions the first guest was checked in. Any subsequent guest was riding on the same registration.

Depends on hotel. It's not really a technique to avoid joiner fees more a requirement if that's what you are intending - if you look at the hotel rates and see different prices for single vs 2 persons then you have to pay for double or you will be charged guest fees. But that's no guarantee that for that hotel you won't be charged joiner fees (for girls after the first) even if you booked double.

Best to avoid all trouble and just find a hotel that is 100% guest friendly.

Best thing to do is e mail hotel and ask if they charge for guest in room. Print out the reply and take with you in case you have any problems once there.
Check the accommodation section as plenty of information from BMs on which places are GF.

depends on the hotel and its policy , the more family oriented hotel will not let you thai guest up to your room unless u agree to the joiner fee , i.e royal paradise hotel in patong, best to find a hotel that is GF

My 2 cents dont wait until that moment and get pissed ive seen it happen b 4

You`ll also find the girl will head straight for the reception to hand her id card in anyway. They don`t want problems from the hotel.

Always made me wonder if you were married to a Thai lady from a good background and upbringing and checked into a hotel in the morning for example, what would be the chances that the night staff didn't know and asked you to pay a room supplement. I'm sure its happened before and geez what a reason to kick off...

Exactly had it happen a few times with wifey.. Burasai in Patong will never see my custom again.. once you can accept it happens in a nightlife area, but repeatedly even after speaking with management.. GRRR...

I have checked in a few times with a Thai girl and each time we entered the hotel I had her hold the room key. Was never questioned; whether it was the key that did the trick or not I will never know.

I've had to do similar but instead sent the girl in first to go to the room and followed on my own a minute later. It works but you've got to have the key to start with Usually leave mine at the desk when I go out.

Have known a few guys with Thai wives get hassled, seems to be a resentment thing with the hotel staff. Absolutely disgraceful and the hotels should be named and shamed. On the other point I was meeting a regular GF in Chiang Mai and the staff were happy that 2 were checked in, even without her name and even got 2 breakfast vouchers.

A little OT here.
I hate the in-security of leaving the key at the front desk. Last time I was at the Areca in Pattaya I gave them my room number and the gave me the key. Problem was that I inadvertently gave them the wrong number, meaning I had free range to someone else's room. Give me a disposable magnetic key where the lock gets reprogrammed every check-in.

This was the kind of thing that I used to do when first coming to LOS until it didn't work and then I stopped doing it.

i had the biggest dust up in my whole life at Amari Blvd where my gf and i had been staying for 4 days
i was fuming but i will have to say that the French manager that i spoke to was pretty sympathetic and said he has had similar problems around Thailand with his Thai wife
still didnt undo what was done, but at least he was honest
