I wonder if anyone knows of any good bars in Kata area? I'm looking for something that actually has some guests in, not an empty bar with 5 lonely BGs in all focused on you. I admit it - I can't take that much heat in one evening.

It depends on season high/low/peak, but there should be af few in karon. If not go to patong, there you will just be another one in the crowd. Have a nice trip mate

Angus O'Tools is a busy regular kind of bar ... food is good there too.

High season in the Kata Night Bazaar is probably the best place and the bars that lead up to it, however depending what you want from your holiday i would also suggest Patong. Karon is over-crowded in high season and the place stinks of sewerage, more so than Patong, and Kata is a little too spaced out for nightlife. O'tools is a good drinking bar for watching live sports but the food really sucks IMO...

Have a look at Zanzibar in Kata, behind Club Med just up from the junction. Decent music, comfortable seating, air conditioning, girls are friendly but not pushy and you are in the middle of the beer bars if you want a change.

They are in process of replacing all the drainage on Patak Road so the stale water (sewage) smell shouldn't be a problem anymore.
They have progressed from the roundabout (traffic circle) and are up past the beer bars.
Hopefully Karon will be packed out and overcrowded in high season cos it's been a long low, low season! Probably be the family scene as last year

My fav bar in the high season,live football,good music,pool table,girls.Also been informed,that this high season they are doing hog roast nights,and serving pizza.

Just round the corner from otools,at the enterance to the market.

Agree with you Joe, Dave the owner is a good guy but when i was last there, very few girls...only 2 or 3.

Used to be dave and jon,dave sold his half about a year ago,jons still there,but has a new business partner,had about 7 girls there last time i was there last year, in (dec,jan,feb),and also a few freelancers who'd turn up as and when.

Gets a mixed clientel,single lads,couples,familys.Thats why i think it works well,the girls are there if you want them,but also do a great pr job with the other customers.

I'll be straight in there when i get back (nov),as jon has assured me that there will be some new girls worth checking out.

It's in karon,just around the corner from angus o tools irish bar,at the entrance to the market,you should be able to seee the sign from the main road at night.

From the junction go along the road past the back of Club Med along past the "Swamp", beer bars, Night Bazzar, Zanzibar, Club Med's bike parking sheds and take the next left. Basically 2nd left along that road from the junction.
From Patak Road go past the old and new markets and take the road that leads down to the water factory. Arfur's is about 75 meters from the far end on the right hand side.
It has pretty much the same look as Angus's but smaller as it is a single unit.
See Yo-Yo or Chang Noi who are running the place.

No offense meant, but I live here and can't figure out these directions. Everyone has there own idosyncratic way of thinking about getting from A to B here.

Could you post the Google Earth co-ordinates?
