What to talk about?

Guys,

I need some help regarding conversations with BGs.

When I'm in a bar and with a BG, what should I/we talk about? I know that they will ask the 'usual questions' about me, but other than that I'm a bit dumbstruck. Their 'tinglish' is better than my Thai, so chatting is a bit of a challenge.
I don't follow any sports, so I wouldn't know a 'cricket goal' from a 'football stick', and my knowledge of current popular music is embarassingly limited. I don't 'do' religion, and my food tastes are quite european and bland.

What do you talk about?

Most have the sense of humour of a 12-14 yr old. So just act like you did around girls at that age, and you will be ok! Sense of humour and funny faces, should be enough to get you through the 4-6 hours needed.

If you have any tricks or funny games, then these are a bonus!

I've found that if you're struggling for conversation with a BG you're interested in & you want to hang around a bit longer, I usually play one of the many bar games with them (like the dice game, connect 4, or jenga blocks)
Those games are universal & they break down all language barriers too.

Its ok I dont think a BG would know the difference either so just ask if they like to hit goals or kick a six.

one thing i did was teach them NEW games. card games that is. simple ones which they can learn very quickly and you can have a right laugh with especially when rat-arsed. SNAP for example. or even blackjack (21). no BG i've ever met has ever played those 2 games before so its always entertaining for them to do something new.

What do you talk about?

If you are lucky enough to get one who can converse(in English),they usually like to talk about their family and village.

Just give em a hug and a kiss, that`s usually enough to let them know you like them.

After I talked to them about where I live and how long it took me to get to LOS. I usually ask them about their family. I've noticed if a bg is into you and her english is fairly decent the drinks and conversation are not really a big problem for me.

You want drink?

What u want?

You want another drink?

How much LT (or ST)?

We go now?

Go Disco?

You want me pay BF for friend, she go too?

Now that you are at the Disco, repeat questions 1-3

Then after disco closes, you want food or boom boom?

And they say romance is dead!

GMT, don't worry about it. Be yourself and you will find a lady. She will either like you or your baht.

I taught a few girls about astrology. I showed them exactly where Uranus was.

Or she will like you AND your Bahts... 555555....

But before, I basically followed the same strategy as Easyrider. Play some bar games and talk about her family. That usually does it.

Since they don't usually know much about sports, are more interested in Thai music than Western, their conversation on food doesn't go much beyond, "you like spi-ceee?", and as far as religion goes, they can tell you, "Buddha good!", so you don't have much to worry about on those counts!

So goofing around, make them laugh, and do stuff with them, games, shoot pool, go disco, go beach, go restaurant usually works best, keeping conversation centered around the specifics of the activity you are doing, always looking for the joke in anything that happens, as they love to laugh and clown around

But when you are really stuck, the silence is deafening, there are two standbys you can always go to, to try to get it going again: 1)Ron, mai? and 2) Mao, mai? Which mean "Are you hot?" and "Are you drunk?" If you have been drinking, those will always be good for a laugh, especially when you are both drunk! Teasing them about being drunk always gets them laughing.

If you find one who initiates a discussion about Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle, just tell her you are uncertain how you feel about it.

the first day I spent with my g/f we seemed to talk about everything - certainly alot about her family, village, kids and how she found being a b/g.
We also spoke about my family etc (except for how "I" felt about being a b/g...5555)
We also used her Thai / English book a fair bit and laugh all the time - magic......and we haven't stopped 18 months later. we now talk about Thai and Australian news, how her and my families are, when I will next see her again etc, etc. - never short of conversation, mind you her English is much better now and the dictionary doesn't come out as often.

Always shocked by this sort of question, reasons are I have never been stuck with things to say to anyone anywhere in the world. So it is a subject that never enters my head, 'how am I going to talk to this or that person'

As already said just be fun, have fun and all Thais will enjoy your company.

It strucks me as well, but it's obviously a very common problem for many people if you look at the amount of training and motivation books available like...How to speak to everyone etc.

BG's are built for comfort not for conversation.

I tend sometimes to make a selection earlier in the night, pay the BF and tell em I will be back later to pick em up, say at 12 or 1. That way I can get out with the rest of the smoozers and have a laugh and a joke and the BG is happy cause she knows she can make a few dollars on the lady drinks or maybe even slip in a ST. If it comes around to 1am and I am still going strong wherever I am I slip one of the drinks girls a quick 100 baht and get her to pop off to whatever bar the root de juer is ensconced at and tell her to come over to wherever I am drinking. aaahhhhh now that is true "home delivery" service.

Talk to em... you gotta be joking...lol

isn't "conversation" all part of natural selection? If you fail to impress a girl... you don't get the chance to procreate and nature has again triumphed... ridding its self of a "weak gene". So either "adapt" or join the extinct "genes" list ;-)
But if you aren't into Darwinism... then just get really drunk... you'll be amazed at how brilliant you are at conversation then....
