Hilltop with panarama resturant is kinda boutique hotel run by Domonic up there... I think sea view rooms on the hill run abotu 1500 but it has a well nice pool area on the rooftop and slick resturant area.. my mates are usually too cheap..

Theres 2 more guesthouses along the road further up (tavern on the hill and Baan suan 2)... IIRC they will be about 500 - 700 a night depending on room and time of year.. you can haggle a DVD player etc if you are staying a long time and one of them will throw in a new electric start motorbike (you need one on the hill anyway) for 80 baht which is a bit cheaper than normal rental.. They do that as an at cost service.

One of my mates has lived in that guesthouse for months.. he pays a dirt cheap monthly and the owners even let him live there on credit for ages when he had no money coming in.. room / resturant / bar bill on the slate.. Nice people.

None of these people will give you any lady charge bunk and its actually a few degree cooler up there on the mountain.. Went to a nice surprise B'Day party yesterday up there.

PM me if you want contact assistance.

Karon

First trip coming up in five weeks can't wait but unfortunately i booked before researching and i'm booked into south sea resort, karon beach, which i know has a joiner fee. Do you think it would be better for me and my three friends to rent a room in somewhere in like C&N rather than pay the joiner every night? Does anyone know how much C&N costs a night?
Any advice would be appreciated.

Thumbs up C & N

There are plenty of posts on the C&N. Have stayed there many time and can highly recommend it. August will still be low season, standard rooms 500-600 baht, VIP room (only 2 or 3 of these) 700-800. Attached are some pics of the VIP room. bigger sized room, nicer bathroom will full bath. Standard room is still nice standard, a little smaller, and has a shower which goes straight onto the floor of the bathroom. Make sure if you go standard room you ask for a newer room, or new wing, normally this is no problem.

No pool at hotel but as mentioned by other BM's there is a pool at the end of soi sabsabai about 3-4 min walk away. Is clean and has a restaurant attached. 70 for all day pass, use as many times as you like.

If you enjoy karon fair play to you, but most board members like being a little closer to the action. No matter how nice the hotel is, or if youve already prepaid sometimes it just not worth the hassle of paying the joiner fee. Even though they are letting the girls in for a fee, ive found the attitude of staff (reception, security guards etc) can be quite unfriendly sometimes especially towards the girl, overall it can leave a bad taste in your mouth. (no jokes pls )

Then theres the principle of paying extra money to a hotel that provides no service or value for it in return..

Id rather use that extra money they want for a joiner fee to pay for a hotel room in patong like C&N. Your hotel back in karon is already paid for, so use it as a base during the day or an escape for a couple of days if you need a break or change of scene.

Good luck and have a great trip

Gday Bafana. Yes back on (the) board. Got back into Aussie last week from my 2 month sojurn around thailand. I was in patong 14-28 may, that was when i saw you there. Did some travelling around, and returned to patong again 27 june - 12 july, but was keeping a pretty low profile. Didnt have much time to check the forum while i was away.

Its a couple more weeks before i will start working again, so just catching up with all the great threads i have missed. Hope all is well in Sillypore.

Was great to meet up with some of the BM's while i was away. Nicke and staff run a very good bar, and were most welcoming, particularly with my LT BG which was important to me. Some of the bars i went to were nice to me, and gave the TG GF dirty looks.

Cheers
Oz
