its hard

Its hard to learn the thai that the bg's speak, because, like in our languages, they speak a slang version, and do not speak proper thai. so if you were to learn it from a video or book, it will not be the same. I also heard that alot the girls speak in different dialects so that if a farang does know thai, they can speak and he will not understand.

im not too familair

I am not too familiar, but I hears Khmer and even loas. I think you can learn thai to get by, but like I said, if a girl wants to talk without you knowing what shes saying, she will be able to speak where you dont understand

At the homepage of this forum www.phuket-info.com
there's a phrasebook (look at the bullets - yellow background) , you might find some useful things there.

Eddie's Thai

I lived in Thailand for about a year and a half , staying in Patong for 9 months and I never got past 'Bar Thai'

Some phrases that kept coming up were:

Boumsing party - f**k party

sabai dee? How are you?

Bagwan - sweet mouth

'pompoi' - fat

Katoye - lady boy

Have a good trip!

Khortot khrap... chai ki loo khrap?
(Excuse me, how many holes do you use?)

Chrop puying sahm loo
(I like girls with three holes)

You could also substitute in Tam Gan (work) if you wanted to make it even cruder !!!

Useful Phrase books

I've purchased about 5 Thai Phrasebooks/ Teach yourself Thai books and 1 CD. Three of the books had loads of errors & phrases you'll never ever need (all Thai published). Two are great:

1. Lonely Planet pocket phrasebook, interesting, concise, good for beach reading.

2. Another Pocket book (can't find it right now), called something like "Bar Girl Phrasebook" is brilliant, Hilarious and very useful.

I bought the above 2 books in the book shop at the bottom of Bangla.

The CD for Windows (by Paiboon Publishing) was pants too !

Smile Seems Like It's Been Forever.......

Here is a useful phrase you might not see in the phrasebooks:

"Mai dai jer gan dtang naan."

Means "Long time, no see."

"sa Thai" --- you mean "pasah Thai" --- means Thai language.

Ter is 'you' same as 'khun'

Chan is the female 'I'

I suggest WildOne is more used to hearing it than saying it..........
