Techno @ Club Lime - 18th/19th Jan
I likes me some harder music and 2 Swedish Techno DJs are playing Club Lime.
Joe Mull Fri 18th Jan
Adam Beyer on Sat 19th Jan
will probably only go to one and with Judge Jules playing Seduction on 16th its a good week for party goers
DJ Nakadia is back again on the 26th (Saturday)

I was trying to figure out which is the better of the two. Hard from the write-ups. Aside from that Saturday usually attracts a better crowd at Lime.
I'm wondering about the crowd for Judge Jules. 700 baht is steep for Phuket but a bargin compared with what they are charging this coming weekend for him in Singapore.
May skip Nakadia this time around. Too much too soon to keep it interesting.
It is really funny to compare this year with last. Nearly no DJs at all last year. This year we are flooded. great stuff.

I've seen quite a few more DJ's in Bangkok this year too, but I don't know if they are booking more or if I am just stumbling into the right places on the right nights. It is fun to go listen to them because they usually have some new mixes and songs that I've never heard before. But I hate the DJs that talk all the time. There was one at Qbar before the new year, can't remember the name, but he was so excited about being in Bangkok that he wouldn't stop yelling "Bangkok" into the mike. Sheesh, get over it buddy, play the dang music already!
I agree that 700 baht sounds a little steep for Phuket. Probably ole Judge wanted more and the bar realized they're not going to sell many at 1000, so, 700 it is!! Sounds like just the right level to ensure a very empty house considering you don't even get a free drink. At least you know other DJs will roll through sooner or later -- and cheaper!

Saw Adam Beyer in Melbourne couple of years ago.
He doesn't disappoint.
It wouldn't be quite right though without accessories!

Rumour has it that Sven Vath and Richie Hawtin (Plastikman) are also in Phuket and will be at Club Lime on Friday/Saturday. They are friends of Adam Beyer and Sven recently got married on the Island.
Unfortunately they wont be playing only partying, perhaps next year.......
Live@Lime sessions from previous guests coming soon on CD
Anybody have a review of Judge Jules at Seduction?

I decided to skip Judge Jules in the end. I checked out some of his current seasons and realized it really didn't appeal to me. Minimalist techno will appeal to me even less. There have been a few techno places to come and go on the island and I just don't see that style ever working here.
For me, unless there is some soul and rhythm I just can't get into it any longer.
Been really into stuff like what Carlos Mena on the Casamena Radio Hour plays ( CASAMENA Radio Hour) or if I am feeling a bet more mellow then Lars Behrenroth (Deeper Shades of House). Was at Cafe Del Mar (Singapore) recently and the music was so right for this type of place.
Although again, I really like the resident dj at lime...DJ Edie? Hey do they have the VIP cards in yet?

Never been one for techno or hardcore.. Can handle electro house or funky tech house but it has to be funky..
I too dropped out of laying a verdict on the Judge.. Too lazy after getting back !! In fact someone called on Tuesday night offering me another run to Langkawi this time on a Richards 57, and I turned that down too.. Life must be good to just turn down free sailing adventures. Kinda regretting that but it was mega short notice.

to me thats music you listen to. not dance too.
if i go to an event i want to dance and that everyone is dancing. standing around chatting and agreeing what a good mix the DJ dropped while sipping a margharita is not for me.
tbh it isn't right with out some little friends anyway.

also, plenty of people kept asking if i was going to see the judge as if they were going too, just liked they asked if i was going to Brandon Block and I was the only one who showed up there.
So all the "i wish Phuket had some good music and decent DJs" has been answered with poor support when it does finally arrive.

I'm guilty of that. But in the end after I decided I didn't care about the DJ I was more interested in the possible party. But Wednesday night isn't the best.
You make a good point but I think they need to get decent DJs for this market, not what works in some dark warehouse in a European city. My tourist friends kept talking South Beach Miami and places like that when they were at Club Lime (Eddie was playing). Happy, fun, light, soulful, and funky. Then some drum & bass guy from BKK started a set...doesn't work here...and we left.
The DJ needs to match the Phuket vibe.

The fact you checked out JJ beforehand and decided it wasn't for you was the right way imho. If you go to D'n'B night and don't like it you cant blame the venue - its only one night a week after all.
If your mates like South Beach Miami then go on the night that plays that style or similar "after beach" maybe. See attached - FYI.

As a expat local I agree with what you are saying.
But we were hitting it more like a tourist. I've come to find tourists here expect that if I go to a place one night, that it will be the same when I go back the next night. Basically "We had fun last night, let's go have the same fun again tonight"
Not complaining. Just putting it out there what I see working and not working.

I agree with what you are saying but was wondering: Do you think this would still be a valid statement if entry had been 300-baht with one free drink? What if it had been free and they just tried to sell more alcohol? Would they have packed the place?
I think the problem is most people don't know or don't give a crap about paying extra for music by a DJ they've never heard of (or only a little, or yes I've heard of them but have no idea what kind of music they play), but would slowly migrate to a good place that consistently plays good music in a fun atmosphere for free. To be honest, today it feels like I'm always picking my poison when it comes to venues and music in Phuket, it's never like I really want to go somewhere because the music is so great. The only place I can think of that somewhat fits into that category is Galaxy, and that might only be due to how late it stays open!

Door Entry at Club Lime is 200 baht with free drink on a normal night and 300 with free drink for guest DJ's
Now considering that a bottle of Heineken or a spirit will set you back around 130 baht, it cant be bad to see & hear local and International artists for a few bucks.
We have tried to introduce different styles of dance music such as drum & bass, hip-hop, minimal house and even Balkan Gypsy music (guaranteed that if you hear the set from Italy's Funky Farmer last Wednesday, it will put a smile on your face and have you stompin your feet or just tappin your toe)
Some is liked and some is disliked (Hip-Hop is killing your club and drum and bass sucks) but as both bassload (drum n bass) and block party (hip-hop) nights are only once a month and minimal is fortnightly. That leaves the other 26 nights strictly for the love of house, whether it be funky, techy, soulfull or spiritual.
The set from dj Q warming up for Gene Farris and in turn Gene's set show how a night of good quality house can be all of the above.
The problem right now for Phuket, is the demographic of tourists and the fact that the Island isnt on the clubbers map, yet!
As the months go by there will be reviews appearing in International Dance and DJ magazines and the word will spread.

The cost has little to do with it for me.. OK at 700 I want to know who is playing even perhaps at 500.. but if its a proper night out with a name DJ that is not the issue..
But its more to do with consistency.. No point having a crap place with bad choons one night then an uber famous name the next.. It seems to want to morph from hotel California and 70's rock, to name DJ's overnight.. Find a few good residents, that mix up thier set and keep it fresh, pay them what they deserve (it has to be less than JJ) and build a scene and base.. At least lime has stuff consistently not one night on 2 week off..

Gypsy music.. Dont you start...
Hopefully all these sets will be made available.. Maybe make that a perk of the vip thing.. pay for CDR's or DL high quality MP3's from a lime(wire) site..

Wish I'd made that one. Totally forgot.
For tonight, I've sampled his myspace and it's not for me so I've updated my facebook to "Not Attending".

Live@Lime CD's will soon be available as a series, properly printed & packaged. Most likely free for members (VIP cards coming soon) and 300 baht for tourists & short timers
Just have to decide on which one to put out first, as we have over 10 hours of pure quality.
