otop bars
does or has any of youse board mongers ever drink at this collection of bars,there are quite a few down there,suppose they might get some trade from the holiday inn as its not far.
only drank down there once myself like,at a place called grandma's bar which is now closed,says it all really,innit!

a couple of times i've stopped and had a few beers whilst gf was shopping, not to good at shopping, seem to be better at drinking!! a few people at each bar, even during the day.

Keymoney/rent being low, they dont need so many customers to break even, I still wouldnt have a bar there as it would get very boring with that low volume, despite being cheap.

i frequent otop quite a bit during the day and usually before i head out to bangla or where ever i might be heading.
although there are a number of bars, i have two that i call my local when im there. every bar there has their regulars. i think that is what keeps them going.

I have a 'friend' who manages a bar down there which is owned by a fellow Thai. The bar is never that busy, so she earns very little even in high season, but she gets more than her last job in Nanai apparently?? Can't remember the bars name mind, even though I have been there like 10 times at least.......
I blame the boobies!

Have been walking by there a lot and just wondering are these bars just drinkbars or can you barfine the girls as well?
Seeing that most bars only has a few staff I guess that they are nongoers, but with money involved you never know!?  There is another cluster of similar small bars in the little Soi in front of Patong Gym, opposite the school near the Soi Sawatdeerak Junction. Plahgat

i only went there last time, because i met a friend who was working at a bar there...
but shopping is crap there, the prices for a "market" are imho way to high

Me and my friends spent a couple of evenings at some of the bars on Otop last month, it's quiet, but a very friendly and relaxed atmosfhere there. We sat mostly in one owned by a dutch guy. Had BBQ often and it's not that expensive ringing the bell in a bar like that!
 -It was a nice way to start the party before we went to bang-la and the chaos of getting grabbed and asked for drinks every 5min... Regarding the barfine there was no system like that. Every bar has few girls, some 4-5, others as few as 2-3, so they would not be able to go before the bar shuts, about 0100, so it was either to sit and wait or come back around closing time if you wanted to spend some time with them outside the bar... -And they had to be back at work 10-11 next morning...  There can of course be some differences from bar to bar, but this was how it was in the ones we visited.

an friend from perth owns a bar there.
he doesnt allow the girls to go with guys during bar hours. there is no bar fine system. after hours, its up to the girl in question.

Cheers Sledge, I stayed next door to the Holiday Inn at the Burasarri, are you meaning at the top of that road away from the beach end (same road where the Taipan is situated).
Next time I am back I will try and find where they are. I quite like a quiet few beers before heading out to the main places at night.
