We've a new bar opened in Kamalalalala (Opened about a week after you left Nels unfortunately) Called.............remarkably...........The Pub! Thai all the way. Thai music, Thai owned, Thai frequented, Thai bands and many, many Thai ladies.
I've been a couple of times now and they have a reasonably long happy hour, two bottles of Chang for 100 Baht.
Good crowd in there and the place now for the BG's after hours. Lets just hope it continues as it is now.
Just look at your left heel, as if you got chewing gum stuck on it, then look at your right heel in the same way while hanging onto a pole and 'Hey Presto!" instant Elvis! All shook up! Try it in the mirror, Nels is doing it right now!

I forget who said this up above "The problem with music is you cant please everyone" but that explains a lot. For each person who is happy about the music, there will probably be someone else who isn't - and vice versa. As I recall, it only got annoying to me when things were so loud I couldn't hear what someone else was saying to me.
It's interesting how different kinds of music can put a person into different moods. I'm guessing this is very different based on where the person is from, or if it's someone who lives in Thailand.

So what music played, would appeal to all or most people in the soi's??? they will have to please a wide age range, have to appeal to the Thai girls, or they will not dance and also not play the same stuff every night or it will become repetative??
So anyone come up with anything other the old 80's/90's hit music???
And do we really go to the soi's to listen to the music?? don't think your trying, if thats the case!!!!

what's this idea about the girls not wanting to dance? If they work there and the bars are to have girls dancing they will dance no matter what .
Its us customers that put money into the bars...not the girls...

The fact remains - i only notice the music is "sh1t" in Soi Eric.
The frustrating thing is that it is Eric's choice and sometimes the DJ gets to play what he wants and its usually good stuff. I know Bar owners have complained to Eric but as usual its 'his soi' so he doesn't listen.
Soi Lion plays good music and Soi Croc is usually excellent if u can put up with I Will Survive and YMCA every now and again.

So, it's the age old question:
Do you play music to get the customers in the bars, or do you play music to get the girls' dancing/excited to get the customers in the bars?

I think its not a case of them not wanting to dance but a case of how will they dance to music perhaps they do not like or do not know?? have you not seen this before in say, Seduction when they put on something the girls don't know or like, they all leave the floor. How much more do they like Thai music and dance with so much more enthusiasm??
Let's also adjust our priorities a little here, we go to the Soi's for what reasons? Girls, Friends, Drink, Entertainment, Music, surely its how you position these things, in what order of priority that brings about any concern for the music in any of the soi's.
On my list its actually last, and I do not pay much if any attention to it, I certainly wouldn't go to a different soi just because it had slightly better music, the drink and girls would perhaps be the same, but the good company or the friends if not there is more important to me, but then here we go with my preferances over others, it's not right and I certainly wouldn't start a thread calling a particular soi crap because one of my personal criteria is worse than elsewhere.
None of my friends go to Soi Lion, so it's crap, can't understand why none of them go there reguarly, the music is supposed to be better?? Not having a dig at you Keld but just to say, to me its not my number one reason for going to a Soi??

Actually i only notice the music at most sois at the beginning, then when i start to talk to friends and the booze gets to my head, i wont notice the music anymore.
I do like the music at Soi Croc and like the toilets at Soi Eric.

I tend to pick up on the songs that I like and the rest just goes in one ear and out the other..
As long as I hear one AC/DC song I think that it has been a good night....

i think it may also be a difference if you're on a 2-3 week vacation or if you live there and go there a couple of times a week.
for me i dont notice the music too much and like others said if i dont like a song it goes in one ear and out the other... i like when the music isnt too loud so you can understand what other people are saying.

I also think the volume plays an important role, as some have stated, it would be very difficult to play tunes and please everybody. However playing too laud will make music you don't like even more unbearable. And even if you like some of the songs it'll be perhaps annoying if you can't hear anything else.

Must say, I never noticed the music in the times I spent at MTB. Had a bit to do with both the shooters, beer and absolutely besotted by Nam. And that was while my wife was with me.

I am sure he will. But God they were great. I forgot to mention that concentrating on Connect 4 means I do not hear the music either.
Not that it did me much good.

Why not pop down there and give the bloke a night off! Give him his salary and tell him to 'disappear' until 2-ish!
If the moaners then start playing Belgian Acid house flippity flop funk reggae garage underground parking R&B Drum and Bass by some self important unknown to all pimply French teenage DJ with his baseball cap on back to front then I will be down there sharpish with a very hard finger to the chest to politely tell you where to stick your music as you exit through the very small DJ window!
Voulez vouz, super trooper, dancing queen...............Geddit! Sorted.

Now I may be different than everybody else on this board in the respect that music is a big part of my daily life. Around the house/apartment music is always on and its very good for mood setting, motivation etc..
Likewise, ever been in a Soi when there is no music at all?....
The thing with the music in Soi Eric currently is that from 2230-2400 and from 0030-0200 the bars are required to have girls dancing.
Now from 2200-2230 normal diverse western music is played, starting with Tina Turner's "Simply the Best" (What a misnomer)..
Then at 2230, thai disco music comes on, and if you havent a clue what that is, then its a background drumbeat thats superimposed on whatever music the DJ has at hand which is annoying because it never stops, but keeps playing over the next hour and a half.
Then a half hour respite, while the girls get a break from midnight till half past, then here we go again, another hour and a half of the same crap..
Like Tanman said, it begs the question who is the music for?....
Customers or girls?
The customers are the ones paying money for drinks, ladydrinks, barfines..
Like I said the girls will dance no matter what, because its a rule for the bars, so they will just have "to suck it up"...
But really it cant be that bad, because in the other Soi's there is western music playing and girls dancing there too....
If Eric should happen to read this, I say the change the music style to accommodate the customers.
Those of us that go out, quite regularly, like 3-4 times a week, its really annoying.
And Dodger, Im not dizzing the entire Soi, just the music style the DJ is playing.
