Tai Pan closed
Was told today ( rumour ) Tai pan will be closed for approx 15 days and one other joint very close to Tai pan ( same )when i went passed tonight it was CLOSED .
Reason being there was someone inside drinking last night under 20 it must have been visited last night by the police ( guessing ).
I dont know what others feel about this but in my opinion they should if they feel the need to fine the offender not close the place for 15 days this is a tourist destination and tai pan needs to be open for gods sake .
Just my 2 cents worth .

My id!!!!!!
On a bit of a tangent. The last time i was there, i was 23. Alot of bg and fl kept saying that i was young, and guessed my age at 16 to 20. So for the first few days of this i guessed that they were just trying to be overnice to get bigger tips or more lady drinks.
But then after a 4 or 5 days there, i went to get in to the Banna or Tiger disco for the first time and i ended up having to prove my age to the bouncer.
Soo maybe Thais cant tell the difference between say a 18yr olf Farang and 21yr old!!!
But then im sure they can!

From Rock Hard's website...
"Closing times are once again a major issue in Patong. Government notices were recently sent to all bars to close at 2:am sharp. It is being enforced on bar beers as well as discos - even restaurants. Time for another round of protests over this short-sighted move by the local morons. It's now confirmed that 3 venues have been closed for 15 days for violating the law - Tai Pan, Baya Beach and Superstar - JUST IN TIME FOR OUR OPENING PARTY!! What a coincidence!!"

For me, Tai Pan is maybe the best disco in Patong with good live bands, good music and not too loud. They close at 3 AM ... not so late regarding other discos like Safari, Dragon ...So why to close Tai Pan and not other discos ?

I talked with management for Tai Pan today and they confirmed they will close for 15 days. The official reason is late closing.

I was there in July and August and was pretty suprised to find Tai Pan open at 3:00, 3:30, and sometimes almost 4:00 am. In May , they were much more strictand were always closed by about 2:30.
It's a shame but is was a question of time.

This seems annoying. I am 27 but look like I am 21...I am on vacation, do not really feel like be hassled for proof of age. Guess, maybe have to carry copy of my Passport around at night.
is this going to be the norm?

The legal drinking age in Thailand is 20. It is a condition on licenses when issued that you legally agree to ensure that all patrons are of legal age. Also another condition is that you abide by the legal trading hours. It is also well know what the consequences of breaching these license conditions are.
Be it harsh or not, this is the law.

I'm 40....any club I enter in Bangkok will ID me. Carry a photocopy of your passpoort, make sure you also have a copy of your visa/entry page and also the TM card so the police can see the number if necessary.

I only have been asked for my passport in CM2 in Bangkok (I didn't carry it with me so I was not able to enter) but they didn't asked anything to my former girlfriend and she was allowed to enter !!! Bye Bye CM2, I'll spend my money elsewhere.
At Angel's Disco (Nana Hotel), it was just the opposite: no problems for me but my ex gf was asked for her ID and was not allowed inside as she was not carrying her ID card with her.

just thought i'll put my two pence worth in.
with tai pan.he's a british owner yes so he has to close for 15 days for staying open late.
dragon thai owner not closed allowed to stay open late.
or another conspiracy is the thai PM wants to buy up the land on thai pan site for car parking for his new shopping mall or he's planning to open a night club in his new complex.
i'm sure it's the first of many raids by the police on the place.
enjoy it while it's there because it could be going like the shark club.
i was there in the shark club january two years ago just before it closed down a few weeks later. I'll be in the tai pan at christmas just in case it happens again.

Yup - Late close is the reason (TIT)
I just got an sms from my friend that hangs out at Tai Pan (Sexy gal with short blond hair that usually dances on the stage) and she also confirmed that Tai Pan will be closed for two weeks due to late closing. It is kind of funny as when the night life has been killed off what is the reason to fly all the way to Thailand when there are better night life back home.......
