Hello
patong lodge is a safe place to stay but they charges you for bringing a girl for the night.
the price to pay the girl min 500 for st. and 1000 lt +bf 200-300 bath
but it is up to you and the girl to agree on the price to pay.
a bargirl is doing all the work outside the bar LOL. so no problem finding a girl

Patong Lodge not girl friendly.

BTW will be there at the same time.

Be at the MTB 9:00pm on the 23rd October to meet some other BM's and do a pub crawl

Have a great Trip

I sometimes wish it was my first time in LOS. I am sure you have been reading this board but nothing quite prepares you for the real thing. The Patong Lodge is not particularly girl friendly in that they charge you a "joiners" fee for bringing in an overnight companion and you might have read elsewhere that they sometimes make a fuss about the ID cards. On my first trip I stayed at the Andaman Resort and they were desperately guest unfriendly. THB 2000 for a joiners fee and hawk like eyes everywhere. The girls were not allowed in public areas or by the pool. Surprising really when you consider where they are but that is Thailand. On my second trip I switched to a lower class hotel but it was more friendly and I felt a lot better about things although the room service was iffy to say the least. It was the ubiquitious C&N Resort - not the hotel.

I really cannot wait to here your first impressions of the place. I have not read the hobbit for quite a while but I am sure you will have something to relate while blowing smoke rings round the fire back in the shire.

I heard that the joiners-fee is in fact illegal! If you rent a room, it is for 2 people.

Not their affair, if you take a Thai, black, or white girl, and if it is a regular TG or not!

I knew a guy, who refused to pay and even treatened to phone the police, as this was illegal! He did this wit a bright smile, did not get upset, but was firm!

Ok for you they said!!! Don't ask me the hotel, i forgot!

Not quite right, you may have paid for a double room, but your guest is not registered. There is no law against it, and the hotels are quite within their rights to charge you, as it is clearly advertised at checkin. Its very simple, if you dont want to pay the fee, then stay at a known non charging hotel.

It depends on the hotels..some charge 300 baht and some charge 3000 Baht per night..of course there are those which do not any joiners fee at all..read the Accommodation and Transportation section of this forum.

Well stem, I would see if I would come to my room with a nice Scandinavian girl (many of them desparate in Phuket!) if they would charge me anything!!!!!

I register the TG and they all can go to hell!

of course, i always rent a small house, so I am not concerned!

You see that where farang get into problems, they demand and expect things to be as they are used to back home. You are in another country, and whether you like it or not, you must abide by the ways of the land you are visiting, whether you like it or not. Otherwise, you may find yourself in some trouble.

There are so many hotels of different levels scattered around phuket which accept and cater to farang / thai temporary couples, that no one should be having to pay joiner fees or getting upset by them.

Use your ultimate right and power as a consumer, and take your business elsewhere (to somewhere that wants it)

I stayed in January at a particular hotel

There were 2 guys next to the room of my friend and me! Let first say this was a 5000 bath/night hotel!

Ok, the first guy gets a girl really fast. Now ok José, she could not even come to his room. He had to take another room for her, in the buildin across this hotel, also owned by the hotel, but cheaper : 2000 bath/night!

Ok, so one guy stays in the nicer room, the other goes to sleep in front! Fair.

But....then the other guy gets a girl too! The most logical thing is , that girl stays in the nice room as the guy, has payed for 2 persons on forehand!

Noop, not all, they oblige him to take another room across the street too! I didn't want to make a fuss, as we were two in the room, and never would I give them the pleasure of paying another room!

So I slept at my girlfriends place instead!

If you want the name and I am allowed by this board I will be obliged!

Which hotel was it ?. I stayed already in Sunset Beach, no problem, as well as in Kata Thani (Low Season). But I book every time for two and stay same time with same girl.

Other possibility:
book 2 nights in advance then change hotel, or do a checkout and
checkin with girlfriend.

Visa card is a good option..., i have used it a on a few trips to LOS, however i don't know about other countries, but Australia charge quite exuberant fees for overseas transactions, ended up costing me about $90 for the whole trip in fee's, could of spent this on a few better things... Did not realise until i arrived back in Australia, so my advice is to check with credit card provided (financial institution) for overseas transaction rates.
Also found that changing my money to thai baht at local money exchanges in LOS was good too... and the exchange rate was better than changing it in my own country.

Cheers

travellers cheques are ok too ,as a back-up---tombo-- e-mail the hotel and ask them if they charge a "joiner fee"if they say they dont, or if they say it is for instance 300bht ,print their reply and take it with you !this is proof of what they told you, so their can be no "misunderstanding "when you arrive
