Hey Nicke,

The only way to have this book is to go to the Mai Thai Bar?
Cause I will be in Phuket only in December, and that would be great if I could receive it before.
If not possible, it's okay, I will wait

Thanks mate!

The problem with phrase books is that you have to be able to understand the reply. If all she's going to do is to say either "dai" or "mai da" in response to your comments, it's going to be a pretty dull conversation.

The trouble with those phrasebooks is they don't tell you how to pronounce the words phonetically and as Thai is a tonal language many words can be pronounced 5 different ways and mean 5 different things.

eg. suay can get you in trouble. If you want it to mean beautiful I think you have to say it with a rising tone at the end. If you say it with a level or falling tone at the end it means something completely different.

I have downloaded a learn Thai podcast onto my Ipod, it's a lot more useful as you can hear how to pronounce things properly .....when i have tried some of the phrases out of the book i usually get a reply of " i don't understand " ......

I bought this book during my first trip to LOS in January. To say it had a positive effect on the remainder of my holiday was an understatement

I met some of the girls again in April and they all asked about the book :-)

A question from a naive newbie.

What does a Thai lady mean when she says that she "ting tongs" or likes to "ting tong"? Is she saying that she likes to sing songs?

Thanks....Rick

Tony...WTTB.

I ain't Nicke, but I can tell you that if you're in Bangkok for a few days...check the bookstores around Sukhumvit. I've seen the "barguide" in several there.

Hi.
Is the book still available? I'm going to Pattaya in a couple of hours - back on Monday - if I'm not too late (not sure what time is my flight) I can pop in - if not - is it open on Holiday?

Anyway - I have never been to MTB - sorry - always stopped in nearby bar at friend of a friend... I have to dressup somehow not to be stopped again :/

Just a thought nicke...

..But why don't you sell this in Ebook form as a PDF too? Going by the fact we're all computer literate, as we're on this forum, it would make sense for us as we can read em on our computers, iphones etc and your production costs, and profit margins would be a lot higher surely? You could ad a link and sell directly then on Ebay etc. I, for one, would like to read this before I get LOS, rather than after..Can I ask, are the phrases in general Thai or southern diallect?...
Cheers, and I'll see you in a few weeks,
Andi.

Nicke's post about the book was made over five years ago!

He does not produce the book, but kept a few copies for resale at his bar.

It is widely available on the web, as well as book stores in Thailand.
