I would like to apologize to everyone for such a long delay for the continuation of my story. I must say I didn't think it would take me this long to write this. In all honesty the reason I stopped writing this story for a while was that I noticed that I had a real bad case of the "LOS BLUES" as you guys say. There wouldn't be a minute that I wouldn't be thinking about Thailand or about my Tilak. I would constantly be talking about my time there. I felt like I was that girl from the movie American Pie who kept saying "There was this one time in band camp...". Instead I was saying "There was this one time in Thailand...". It got so bad that I wasn't motivated to work. It got to the point where me and my friends would go out and really smokin hot chicks would try to talk to me and I wouldn't care because in my head I knew they couldn't compare to Thai Girls especially a thai girl like my tilak. I was even trying to conjure a way that I could pack up and move to Thailand.
So I am sorry but I needed to let some time pass to try to get used to my life back here at home. I even refused to contact my tilak for a week. I am better now. I have adjusted a little better and not feel so bad. Since I have decided I'm goin back I'll tell u guys all about it later in the story.
So let's get to it...
Part 8
So at dinner there were 5 of my Thai male friends and they had brought 2 thai girls with them who were there friends from Bangkok. The two girls were friends of theirs that had planned a vacation in Phuket a while back and were unfortunate enough to have to come to Phuket after the whole Tsunami. Well after dinner they all wanted to go to Tiger to do some dancing. It was around 10:30 p.m. I on the other hand wanted to hit the sois and do some drinking, say goodbye to all the BG's I had made friends with, and ring the bell at my favourite bars.
So after dinner we hopped on our motorbikes and headed to Patong. The two ladies rented a motorbike but didn't want to drive because they were either lazy or wanted to do some heavy drinking. I don't know. So we went and dropped off their motorbike at their hotel. One of the girls who was young and pretty hopped on one of the my thai friends bike, while the other an older yet still sexy thai lady hopped on mine. At this point I was a little bit hesitant on letting this girl ride with me. I couldn't say no because I would look like an a**hole, and another thing was there was no other room on the other bikes. I was also hesitant because I thought what if my Tilak was to see me with another girl, next thing you know she would get upset and not come to Bangkok. Or what if I met a BG I wanted to take home and now couldn't because I was stuck driving this girl.
In the end I did end up driving her. The drive to Phuket was horrible. There was sooo much sand on the road from it being washed onto the roads from the Tsunami that it was getting into the air and when you drove around it felt like you were eating sand. I usually parked on Beach Rd. but it was closed and half of Bangla was closed as well so we parked right in front of Tiger. The two ladies went straight into Tiger. I on the other hand grabbed two of my thai buddies and headed straight for the sois. (*It was around 10:30 p.m. Never go to the disco at this time, it's empty. People don't show up till like 12 or 1.)
First stop was my most favourite place in the world. SOI ERIC!!!!!!!! I forgot to mention that one of the nights that I was out there I got really drunk and was asking everybody where I could buy a shirt that said Soi Eric on it. They said they were sold out. On that night less than half the bars were open and it was empty like I've never seen before. There was no music because the sound systems were still broken from the Tsunami. Yet I still went in and said goodbye to some of the girls I became friends with and to one mamasan I had become friends with too. Then rang the bell at one of the bars and said goodbye to Soi Eric.
Soi Gonzo was next but that was closed I think. So I tried Soi Seadragon but that was empty or closed I can't remember now. So headed to Soi Tiger. Rang the bell at that first bar where all the girls always dress up in usually school girl outfits, I forget the name. Then went to another bar and rang the bell there too and said my goodbyes.

It was about 12:30 and now I was ready for Tiger. I forgot to mention that at dinner I also called up my salon girl. She knew that I was to leave the next day and wanted to see me before I left and asked me what I was going to do. I told her we were going to Tiger. She said she would come down there with her friends to see me. She got there at 11:00 and kept calling me while I was at the sois. I wouldn't answer untill I started walking up towards Tiger around 12:30. She came right outside and made sure she found me. Inside we had some drinks and did some talking. Saying how she was really sad I was leaving. And how bad she wanted to come to my country and visit me. This is where I really started to think man this girl is totally trying to use me and try to sucker me in. She slept with me because she looked at it as a chance that I would fall for her and want her to come back with me. I knew her game so I was still nice to her. I then thought that u know what maybe I can get another freebie from this girl. So I spent about 45 mins. talking to her and dancing with her. (*I have to say that dancing with my Tilak was amazing and never really felt the same dancing with any other girl). So this was pretty boring.
At around 1:15 I asked her if she would go home with me. She refused. I was really surprised. I tried to make her feel guilty for saying no by telling her that this maybe the last time she would see me. She still said no saying how she had to wake up early the next morning for work. After I heard this I told her I was going to go home. She said that if I was going to leave she would too. So I headed towards the door and said my goodbye to her. She went ahead and headed home. I pretended to walk to my motorbike and once I seen she was out of sight I headed straight back to Tiger.
The whole time I had been talking to my salon girl my Thai friends were beside us dancing and drinking. The two thai ladies were next to us dancing and drinking as well and they all had been watching me talk and dance with my salon girl for the past 45 mins. So then I started talking to them and got to know them a bit. They asked me if the salon girl was my girlfriend. I told them no. So I spoke to them and danced with them for a good half hour. At the same time talking to some BG's and FL's at the bar too. (*BG's show up at Tiger around 1:00. One time previously one of my falang friends picked up a BG at tiger. This is where it gets weird because he had to go to the bar she worked at and still pay bar fine. Please explain this. Well it might make sense since he did meet her first at the bar.) At this point now I started to contemplate what I was going to do. Here were my options...
1. Take home a BG or FL from Tiger.
2. Go to Karon or Kata find a BG there take her home.
3. The thai ladies wanted to go to a bar outside of patong. The one next to the elephant rides. I think the name was Sanzabar or something like that.
4. Go home alone and get ready for Bangkok.
I started to lean towards number 4. At this point I told all my Thai friends that I wanted to leave. The one girl that had taken a ride with me really wanted me to take her and her friend to that bar Sanzabar. I said I really didn't want to go I was tired and wanted to go home and sleep. So we went outside and got to our motorbikes. Here is where my thai friends got something to eat. They bought some barbeque. You all know those meat on a stick things. They got chicken a bunch of other meat. The girls were with us.
I knew the girl i drove wanted to still out and drink and dance. I didn't so I just took a chance and asked her if she wanted to come back home with me. She goes "I will buy some sunglasses and when I come back i will let u know." She went and purchased some sunglasses from a stand that was still open at 2:00 a.m. She came back. I asked her what her decision was. She said she wanted to come back home with me. So home we went and then boom boom we went. Like I said before she was 38 but looked 28. She had a nice body on her. This was probably the only thai girl I had been with that had a set of breasts on her.
For some reason I really liked to get to know the girls I was with and spent time talking to them. This was a way for me to try to understand Thai women and also let me learn many things which I have tried to share with all of you. This one like all of them who had an exboyfriend story to tell. Although this one claimed not to be a BG, FL or gogo girl. She said she worked in a clothing factory but worked in the office or something like that. Her falang bf was a 78 year old man. Here again I must say again to Thai women MONEY IS #1. She admitted it. She said the only reason she was with him is because he took care of her. I was like "How could you do that. Good lord the guy was 78!!!!!!" She then went on to explain that thai women can fall in love with anybody that will take care of them or even loves them. She said "Fall in love with somebody who loves you is what you must do as a thai lady." In the end he left her for his exwife and she really missed him.
I had to ask her why did she go home with me and not go out with her friend to the bar. She then told me that she thought I was cute and also that she never really got chances to go home with young good looking men.
The next morning, one of my thai friends showed up and took her back to her hotel. Which was perfect for me because I didn't want to be rushed and not want to miss my plane.
I couldn't believe it. 3 and half weeks over just like that. I remember the taxi ride from my bungalow to the airport. It was very sad. It honestly felt like just yesterday I arrived in there not knowing a thing about Thailand, not knowing what I was going to do, not knowing anybody. And now I was leaving where the place where I had just had the time of my life. I was leaving with many memories and many new friends. I was also leaving with the knowledge that there was a whole different world out there. One that was not like anything I was accustomed to before. And of course I was leaving the place where I had fallen for a bar girl.
I don't know when I first thought this. But I told myself that if my Tilak was to show up in Bangkok then it was meant for me and her to be together. If she showed up I would tell her I loved her. There is a saying in my country "If you love something, let it go, if it comes back it is meant to be." I thought to myself I have let this girl go already twice. She has come back to me twice. First time was when I let her go after two days with her for two days, she came back to me or u can say I went back to her. Still we got back together. The second time was when I let her go to be with her boyfriend she still came back and stayed with me. So this was the third time I let her go. I was leaving to Bangkok and let her go again. If she came back then I knew there was something special there...
I want this chance to thank all of you who have been following my story and sent me messages of how you can relate to this story and how you would like to meet up with me one day in the land of smiles. Still to come... Bangkok, ping pong shows, more bg's, and my TILAK

Well Lion, another excellent read, I must confess I also sufferred the holiday blues and couldn't stop talking about the LOS to everyone back home. I also kept in contact with a TG for about 3 months. After a while the emails asking for money started to come through so I would send some money, because to me it wasn't a lot of money and it may have had a big impact on her life. After a while the requests for money became more frequent and for larger amounts, so I had to decline her requests. I then stopped all contact with her. She would send me emails saying she loves me and missess me, then they became few and far between and now no contact at all.
I have 2 rules for Thailand, the first is always wear a condom! No exceptions.
The second is, ALWAYS remember it's ALWAYS about the money! For these woman it's their job, 99% of the time they are just doing an excellent job! I've learnt now the best way not to suffer the LOS blues is to Butterfly and not "date" the girls, don't become attached to a girl, it just makes the next 3 months at home dufficult.
I took me about 3 months to get over The LOS. I needed to arrange my next trip almost immediately for 6 months down the track, I'll come to Patong for 3 days then Pattaya for 7 days. Have a wirl wind tour with my mates and butterfly my ass off.

Excellent Story
Lion
Thanks for sharing the story with us. I've been reading this forum for the last month or so now and this is the best thread by far
I've only been to Phuket once in August 2004 and it really made me wonder what would have happened if I was there few months later.
Treasure every minute you have, and be thankful for the time that has been given to you, I guess.
Love you work Lion.

Sorry but like you guys probably figured out writing this story does take me lots of time. And I don't have much of it. Ever since my whole Thailand experience my life has not been the same. Or I should say I don't live my life the same way anymore. Things that were important to me before aren't and things that weren't now are. I now have a better appreciation for life and try to live it as much as possible. Not only because I survived the Tsunami but also because when you go to Thailand you see how happy people are and how little they have. Everybody here back at home takes advantage or even takes they have for granted. I now strive my hardest now to appreciate all that I have and all life has to offer. So basically I am trying to do as much as I can now (Spending time with family, Hanging out with friends, and lotsa work so I can make lotsa money to go back to the place I love). Hence the lack of time to finish my story.
Part 9
Just when I finally got adjusted to living in a new place, knowing where everything was and how to get there, and made some friends. I had to start over again. I left Phuket at 11:00 a.m. and had arrived in Bangkok around 1:00 p.m. or 2:00 p.m. I can't remember. When I got there I had to find a means of transportation to get to my hotel. (******This is a big pointer to all who travel to Bangkok. This will be the first of many I will share with you. I had gone to the taxi booth inside the airport to get me a taxi to take me to my hotel. This cost me 600 baht plus toll fees. I got ripped off. I learned this later on in my story but this is what you should do. If you need transportation to your hotel from the airport the best way is to walk across the street go past the parking lot, then across another street. You will see the highway and a meridian (fence) keep walking to your left till you see an opening where you can flag down a taxi. They will stop and pick you up. Make sure you tell them that you them to put the meter on. And tell them to take the toll way its much faster. If I knew this I woulda saved 400 Baht.****)
I was fortunate enough to find a room at the Dynasty Inn in Sukhimvit right next to Nana Plaza. I had originally booked the Windsor Suites Hotel. It was like 2500 Baht a night and seen pictures on the internet. I thought this would be a dope place to stay and if my Tilak came she would be impressed. Only problems were that number 1, I didn't know if it was guest friendly and number 2, I didn't know how close it was to all the action of Bangkok. Luckily I had a friend tell me to get either Nana Hotel or Dynasty Inn. (*Next pointer to all. If you are going to Bangkok stay at these hotels. They are guest friendly, they are cheap (Around 1200 Baht a night high season), and they are right next to all the action (Nana Plaza), its easy to get anywhere from there, you got your airport bus stopping near there, you got the skytrain station close too, oh and they are clean too. Just make sure you ask for a superior room. It costs more but man its worth it.

So as I said I was stuck in a place once again with no friends and no knowledge of pretty much anything. I wanted to have something planned for this week especially if my Tilak was to come. I wanted once again to have an awesome and fun time with her and live our life to the fullest. First thing I did, which is my next pointer to all, was I bought maps of Bangkok, in particular I purchased the Nancy Chandler hand drawn map and Day and Night map of Bangkok. They are not only maps they give u ideas of what to do in Bangkok and lets u know wut the most popular things to do and places to go are. I spent about two hours that night reading them and studying them at the same time planning my days. I had two plans one if my tilak was to come and two if my tilak was not to come.
After purchasing the maps I had gone to an internet cafe. I had done this many many times to keep in contact with everybody at home. For some reason this day I went to check my emails I had close to 50 emails. Like I said before my family and friends were so happy I was not harmed that they put me in the paper. Well more of my friends found out and they emailed me to say they were happy to hear I was ok and if I needed any money or anything. It started making me think how lucky I was. I kept thinking that if I had done anything different that day I might not be so lucky. If I took the later boat , if i stayed I might have been on the beach suntanning, or if I stayed and went shopping on Beach Road which is another thing I usually did I might not be here anymore. I know you guys might think that I'm crazy but for some reason it really hit me and made me sad because there were so many people dead and for some reason I wasn't one of them.
This was New Year's Eve. My plan was go to Nana Plaza and take two BG's home with me. I started to get ready in my hotel room around 10:00 p.m. I put the tv on. At this time the main thing that was on tv was the news about the tsunami. I started to watch it. Man it was really really sad to see the images. I was already feeling weird from my thoughts earlier in the day so this made things much much worse. Seeing all the destruction was horrific. The images of Phuket were the hardest to see because those were the same places I had been hanging out for the last 3 weeks. They would always show the pictures of Banana with the cars piled up in front of it, they would show this one street with this internet sign and that was the place I checked my emails everyday, then ocean plaza where I personally watched them pull some dead bodies out of. So you guys get my drift it was really sad and made me almost not go out. It was 10:30 now and I was about to just stay in, then I thought I can't spend New Year's sad and alone. So Nana Plaza here I came.
I thought Bangla road was crazy Nana Plaza is something different. I personally like Bangla Road much better. Nana Plaza is not crazier than anything in Phuket just different. Phuket has more bar beers which I loved. I like going to a bar beer and having a drink meet a girl buy her a drink talk and play a game (Connect 4, Jenga, etc.) All of Bangkok (Except for Soi Cowboy I don't know because I didn't get a chance to go there) is mostly Go Go bars. I mean they had bar beers in Nana but the girls there were not the best they had to offer. You had to go to the Go Go Bars. So off I went. No "Welcome" No "Hello" NO "Where are you from?". Instead "Come inside". I went and looked at a couple Go Go Bars. Then finally sat down at one on the second floor. Had a drink with one of the girls and started to plan in my head what which two girls I was going to take. I planned to take the girl I was talking to and another girl that was dancing.
I had learned many many thai words. I must thank my tilak for this since she taught me much thai words and phrases. I also had purchased a book, Lonely Planets book of Thai Phrases. So I had learned how to speak to the BG's in thai nit noy (little bit). I had let this one know that I know how much girls cost and how much I should be paying(Khao Jai). She then explained to me that all the bars had raised their prices for New Year's. Bar fines were 800 baht, girls were 2000 baht short time and 3000 long time. I was like "HOLY S**T". I thought she was joking. She wasn't, she even brought mamasan over to try to explain to me.
I then thought maybe its only this bar. So I left and hit the next GoGo Bar. I had seen this smokin hot one very young only 19 she said she looked 17. She was hot and she could dance. I waited for her to finish her turn dancing. As you guys know they have numbers on them and u gotta wait till they're done till you can talk to them or buy them drinks. I called this one over and bought her a drink. I'm like ok imma take this one and her friend working the front door. They take turns some nights they work inside dancing and such. Other days they work outside trying to attract customers to come inside. Regardless where they are working u can still take them home. So I try talking to this one, it turns out she doesn't know how to speak english yet. I thought to myself this is going to be too difficult I can't communicate with this girl. I know some of you guys might like this but remember I liked to get to know the girls I was with. So this one was outta the question. But I still wanted to know if this thing about raised prices for New Year's was true. They said the same thing. Here it was 600 Baht barfine. Girls were asking the same 2000 st and 3000 lt. I even tried to haggle. They wouldn't come down on the price.
I was running out of time. I didn't want to spend the whole night trying to find BG's. At this point I acted like a cheap charlie I decided that I was only gonna get one girl since the price for girls was jacked up. I refused to pay for 3000 baht each for 2 girls for lt. Especially if I had only paid 1000-1500 baht in Phuket for the last 4 weeks. I went into another Go Go Bar this one seemed to be the busiest in Nana Plaza. It was the first one on the right once you walk into the middle of Nana Plaza. I forget the name. They had like 20-30 girls working. This was the most I had seen in all the bars I had been to that night. It was even hard to find a seat. Lot of Japanese tourists in this one. Well the best looking bg's were either talking to some other dudes or were dancing. So I grabbed the first one that was free. I bought her a drink and talked to her. She wasn't the best looking and not the best personality. She was very very shy and admitted it. I was like "You are in the wrong business if you are a shy person" she laughed. I talked to her for a bit till one of the girls on the stage caught my eye.
She was hot. I had to wait like 20 minutes it felt like before she got off stage. During this time New Year's had past. So she came over and we sat and talked a bit. I put on my usual charm. Spoke a little thai to her which she liked. Then asked her how much. U guys will die when u hear this. It was 1000 baht for bar fine since it was the busiest go go bar in Nana and like the others asked 3000 baht for long time. I refused to pay 3000 baht for long time and was tired of going around. So I told I would take her right now for 2000 long time. She didn't say anything and changed the subject. Then about a few minutes later mamasan came over to tell her it was her turn to dance and asked me if I wanted her. I told her again that I would take her for 2000 baht. She finally agreed and I paid the ridiculous amount of 1000 baht for bar fine.
Sorry guys I'm falling asleep... i'll be back... Wait till u hear the next part of this one... I actually got really really upset with this girl and even argued with this one and almost ditched her at a club.... Oh one last thing, I like to hear your guys comments so please let me know what you guys think and if you have any questions I would be happy to answer them if it won't give me away. Mosti I'm sorry I can't tell u where I stayed might give me away. It was outside Kata near Chalong. Check on the internet that's how I found it. But finding a bungalow is the way to go. Find one outside Patong, cheaper, bigger and soooo much more comfortable. Just rent a motorbike to get around. I drove like 30 minutes there and back twice a day and it was no prob...

You only need to go upstairs to arrivals to get a cheap taxi into town , roughly 170baht inc. toll fees to sukhumvit soi 4 (nana plaza)
tomyam in patong

Are you sure 170 that seems a little cheap. I have never paid less than 200 or more than 300 including tolls?

170baht is about right, excluding tolls. I paid 350baht including tolls and generous tip when I was there last year (September).
Also, with regards to the comment you were replying to originally, isn't Arrivals downstairs ??

Mosti - If you are a novice to Thai roads and road users, then I thoroughly recommend that you DO NOT rent a motorbike!!
If you want to travel to the beer bars, take a Tuk Tuk. If you want to travel around Phuket Island, hire a jeep or something similar.
I've been lucky in that I've only got a couple of bike accident 'tattoos' from my times in LOS. but the thai forums are littered with details of deaths and serious injuries from bike accidents in Thailand.
If you're worried about cost, then weigh it up against an extended stay in hospital or something even more permanent.
Up 2 U. Just a bit of friendly advice.
Take care and have fun......Johnny Yen

No... I ride bikes, drive cars, etc etc etc everywhere I go.. from Bangkok to Bogota, Birmingham to Barcelona..
I would say driving in Thailand is no worse than Milan or Rome.. Just keep your wits about you and open your eyes.. People dont obey a strict set of road rules, just get used to that and flow wth the traffic.

I would suggest that if this is your first trip that you maybe rent a jeep to get used to the way the traffic reacts. Also if you do not normally ride a bike at home then maybe give it a miss as you do not want to be concentrating on how to change gears when you should be concentrating on what is happening around you.
I hear the horror stories all the time so if you insist on hiring ensure you have appropriate insurance.

Part 10
So I paid bar fine and waited for the girl to get changed. Man when she put on normal clothes she looked like a whole different girl. If you can like a BG when she dressed in normal clothes or when they wake up in the morning then you can truly like this girl. I think my Tilak told me this. She said "If you like a thai lady you must see them in the morning if you still like them without the makeup and when they are not dressed up then u do truly like that thai girl." This was so true because there were some BG's I would take and in the morning without the makeup and the clothes were totally different girls. But that can be said about every girl tho. But one thing about the BG's is some of them do put lots and lots of makeup.
So we left Nana together it was about 1:00 a.m. In Bangkok everything shuts down at 1:00 a.m. clubs, beer bars, go go bars, discos, etc. U might be able to find a bar open here and there tho. But this was New Year's so they were allowed to stay open later. I asked her if she would like to go to a disco. I did this to try and find a popular disco I could take my Tilak too. She was excited to go since she probably thought I was going to just take her home for the night and make the boom boom. So we grabbed a taxi. (Which I must say is the way to travel in BKK. Its safe, fairly cheap, convenient, and air conditioned. Just make sure u get a taxi that runs the meter. No matter where u are you can always eventually find a taxi that will run the meter since some try to offer you one set fee.)
We arrived at this big building were we had to walk up some stairs. I can't remember where this place was. It looked like a mall. It was full of clubs. There were probably like 6-8 clubs in this complex. When I first walked in I heard american music. So I wasn't too upset since I told her I wanted her to take me to somewhere where they played American R&B and Hip Hop music. But to my dismay we walked past these clubs and walked to the end of the building. We past a couple of clubs till we started heading towards this one club in the back of the mall complex. Another thing I noticed when we walked thru this plaza of clubs, was that there were no falang there. It was all thai people. I was totally outta place. As we started heading towards the club I could hear thai rock music coming from the disco.
So we go inside the club I see this thai band playing infront of a crowd. I asked her wut was goin on since I told her I wanted to go to a hip hop club. She said they were only on for maybe one more song so for maybe another 5 minutes then play hip hop music again. There were many people in the club. All thai. I was used to places like Tiger, Banana, Dragon, and Tai Pan where there were pretty much all falangs except for the TG's. I was really cautious walking into this club. Since I never really experienced a place where there were just thai people. I was cautious because I didn't know if someone was going to try to pick a fight with | |
