I Haven't Got A Buffalo, But...
I had an idea, and I was wondering whether anyone has ever tried it before.
Did anyone ever write a letter to a BG or TG, saying, "My Mum's taken ill, and needs special treatment, can you please send me 50,000 Baht right away? I know you very kind lady kind very much so much please can you help? I don't know who else to ask?
That might work if you were an American. They probably know all the Euros have health care. But here's another one. "Am so sorry to write to you, but I know nobody else can help me. know you very good person. Tomorrow the rent is due I don't have money for pay rent. You can help me send me 10,000 Baht? Need help money you send quick quick, Yes? Thank you I know you good person can help me. I love you miss you much much! Thank you I know you good heart lady!"
Does anyone volunteer to try this approach? If you write to ten BGs, maybe you can get enough money for a ticket to visit thema nd show your appreciation! How about, "I miss you too much. Love you too much. Want come see you soon soon now. Need 30,000 Baht for ticket. You miss me too? If you love me send money I see you soon! Love you always forever. I want come see you so much. Please help. You love me, too Yes?"

I`ve got a great sense of humour but I don`t find that at all funny................
typical seppo patronizing attitude IMHO
It`s no joke, these girls do that because they feel they have too,not to take the piss or amuse themselves......

one more thing
without sweeping generalizations, thats one thing that is *****d up by seppos........
seppos seem have no respect for anything or any country that may not be as "financial" as the states............
I doubt very much that a bg(or most people for that matter) would be amused by teasing someone who is in a more unfortunate position........

I did consider putting this thread in the "Jokes" section and figured that I would take some heat for making light of a serious subject. I don't know about humor in other countries, but there is precious little that Americans don't make fun of. The president, the governor, the war in Iraq, virtually every and any public figure are readily lampooned. Even Michael Jackson's trial was a constant butt of jokes and what is less funny than charges of child molestation.
The humor (or lack of it, in your opinion) is just an extension of the standard "Rules for BGs" joke about farangs being walking ATM, the sick buffalo stories, etc.
We are constantly getting requests for opinions and/or advice from guys who have received emails from BGs asking for money for mothers, children, sick buffalos, rent, and a host of other problems. A very heavy majority of the responses to those posts advise the writer not to give a baht to the girl asking for money. I just thought that someone who is at a loss of how to respond to such a request my consider the idea of giving her a sob story telling her that he needs money. In fact, I imagine that quite a few guys do write back telling the girls that their expenses are such that they can not afford to send funds. My post was just an exaggeartion of that type of response, i.e., to not just say that you can't send money, but that the situatio is so bad that, in fact, you are in need of help!!
After all, we are not all wealthy. One friend of mine who goes to LOS every year that he can beg, borrow or "steal" the money, lives in a rented room and makes a living primarily by scavenging thru thrift shops(second-hand goods), and garage sales(people selling unwanted junk in their driveway on weekends), then driving his truck full of odds and ends to the city at 4:00 AM Sunday morning to get a good stall at the flea market to sell the junk he has collected during the week for a small profit. He lives like a pauper, pinching pennies, so he can go to LOS for 2 months or more every year. He goes to Nana and pays 2000 Baht, plus 600 baht per night BF, plus food and drinks for the girls. What a girl costs him for a month is as much as he makes in a month(after taxes, which he does pay because he knows he'll need the Social Security some day). The girls, of course, think he is a "rich" farang, because he is very generous and treats them so well. He wasn't always so poor, but in the years when he had a good income, all the money he could have saved or invested was spent in LOS, as he never stayed for less than 3 months a year in those days. When you adjust for the cost of living in the US vs. LOS, the girls that he goes with are making considerably more money than he does. He makes far below the average income here and they make many times the average income there.
In a lot of cases ,the girls need the money. But not in all cases. In some cases of the ones who are really good at getting sponsors to send money, they are making a lot of money, well beyond any basic needs. The first girl I ever "dated" in LOS, the one I met that first night, had her own house in Phukettown, which she owned, and drove a brand new Toyota, which was a newer and more expensive car than what I was driving at the time. The house she owned was also much nicer than the place I lived at in America. I paid her 4000 Baht per night.
So, I think that humor is humor, and pretty much everything is fair game, as long as it is all in good fun and has no nasty intent behind it. I really wonder if a BG would not have a good laugh, if she got such a letter. After all, the Thais have a wonderful sense of humor, and a very big part of that humor has to do with poking fun at each other in a light-hearted way. Being able to laugh at oneself as well as others is a key element of Thai humor. And a lot of times they will say something serious to you, and perhaps a bit outrageous, to see your reaction, then they say "law len, law len"(just kidding, just kidding),and they will laugh and laugh.
So I say to you, "law len, law len". Have a good day and try to lighten up a bit. They say that life is a comedy or a tragedy. But a lot of the times, you have your choice as to how you will look at it. Which do you choose? Whenever they have the choice, which is most of the time, Thais choose comedy. That is what sanuk is about, choosing to lighten the burden of a difficult life, by determining that you are going to have some fun every day, no matter what. And that is what I love about LOS more than anything!

another thing, because this really bugs the shit out of me. when do you ever hear an american say"oh, you americans" or "you guys from america". we dont give a shit where someone is from, we take you as a person and i do find the american bashing ridiculous. maybe you dont agree with our politics, and that is fine, i dont either. maybe you dont like most americans that you have met, thats your opinion. i particular do not tend to like guys i meet from france or germany, to be honest, but i dont have a prejudice against anyone until i meet them and then make my decision based on them personally. so again, drop the inferiority complex, because i cant think of any other thing that it could be.

I'm ok, and not pissed. What is given is given. It is up to the girls on how to spend the money (don't go after my girl for my money !)

Just relax and forget all those attacks. I don't mind you call me 'shit', then at least you will not step on me. We should smile at what we already have in hand, particularly we are in a wealthier country. There are lots of people that don't have access to clean work or have to do to bed (most sleep on the floor) with an empty stomach. To me, I really don't mind what story the TG gives me. As long as I still remember her and feel good about spend money to her, I will but it won't be a big some. Of course, if the TG is alreay a well off one, forget about her and try to help (or patron) those from the rural villages. They generally appreciate more but whether they perform better in bed is a different story.

We shall overcome
We shall overcome some day

I'm not suggesting that anyone mock or tease a BG who makes a legitimate request for assistance because she needs help. And altho the suggestion was made in a tongue-in-cheek way, and I would be very much surprised if anyone actually did it, but the fact remains that there are many BGs who do this not so much because of need, but merely as a means of generating extra income to pay for a lavish lifestyle, and in doing so, are lying and attempting to cheat a farang.
If you don't believe me, then read the current thread entitled "Braking Password." There you will find three or four first-hand accounts of BGs who were caught outright lying to BMs with ardent expressions of love, when the truth was that they had other boyfriends who they told the same stories to, and they attempted to get each to send them money with lies and phony stories. One BM spent one million Baht on a girl, only to find out it was all lies she told him.
If that ever happened to me, I don't know what I would do. I know when it happened to Tintin, he was extremely upset, especially because she wasn't even a BG, and it took him a long time to put it behind him. And he did even consider doing things to get even with her. We are only human, too. We have feelings and we get hurt and feel pain when we are lied to and cheated. Sending a BG a "mocking" letter wouldn't be such a terrible thing, but a relatively harmless way to express one's feelings in such a situation.
But, the fact is, that the post was not intended to be taken seriously by anyone. Just meant to be a humorous notion of turning the tables on a scamming BG(not that all BGs are scammers, but some are). So it is just something to think of for a moment in passing, to see if it brings a smile to someone's face, not really something to be taken seriously to really do it. Not that a guy would be wrong to, if he knew he was being scammed. Read "Braking Password" and maybe you can see what I mean.
Nor did I really expected everyone to appreciate the humor, because I am not the funniest guy around. But that doesn't keep me from trying!

merlin,
i appreciate your comments. you have to understand how much i hear this stuff, wether warranted or not. but like i said, i take people on an individiual basis. when i mentioned inferiority complex, thats really the only way i can percieve these slights. i do not think i am better or my country is better than any one elses, but thats the only reasoning i can think off. but anyhow, i do feel fortunate, like alot of should feel, to be lucky enough to be born in an established, wealthy country but i do not think i am better than someone who is born in a 3rd world country. why do you think i travel around the world so much, i love evryones cultures. anyhow, i appreciate your comments, and lifes is about putting your foot in your mouth and taking in out, i am very practiced at it. thank you

I have met a lot of people from different countries, in my work life, on this forum, or on holidays. Maybe I have the chance to live in Belgium, a little country with 2 big communities (french and dutch) and also a thirs more ltlle one (German) ... We use to live together, we have sometimes politics problems but it's only about politcics, not about people who can live happy together.
I will never let politicians lead my thoughts. I have friends from everywhere in this world and I am proud of it. Of course, we have sometimes different ways to think, and so what? What is richer than to share opinions and culture? slowly we build the world of tomorrow.
