oh oh, we might be at odds here Paul. I grew up on the east coast and became a Yankees fan when Mickey Mantle was finishing his career. Not tall enough for basketball and did not think that I was going to be big enough for Football but baseball was definitely my game(played in high school and college) so Yankees became my team when I was young. Of course I had to suffer through a lot of years before they started winning again. If you lived in Boston when you were youndg you saw some great players also, Yaz, Fisk, Tiant, Rice, Lynn, and everyone else so easy to become a fan.
Well hope we at least keep the world series champions in the AL east.
and there are some nice Yankee fans, they just don't live in NYC anymore.

And mine mate - even some welsh people know the meaning. Wasn't there a band that went by that name in the late 80's early 90's?

We have done this a few times in other thread..
Could call it the furry cup or the 'Y'.. That way you could go for a drink at the furry cup ..
Then theres the obvious 'the Legs'.. What time do the legs open ??
My buddy wanted to call a bar either the office or the gym.. Can tell anyone that asks your just popping down to the office.. Where are you tilak.. I am at the gym baby..
My mate had a Brit bar in Karon.. called it 'The Sunburnt Arms' which i thought was a classic..
Other threads of names..

well, i of course appreciate all the yankee legends, but i just hate yankee fans. ive seen both perspectives, and putting aside my bias, yankees fans are so fairweather. i 1st moved to nyc whne they stunk and you didnt hear a word about them. it doesnt matter how good or bad the red sox are, we always folow them

I agree with you. Yankees fans are not all fans, some are just riding the coattails of a team that is winning championships. They just want to back a winner, just like LA Laker fans here a few years ago.
I have watched them for a long time, even when they were bad so I am not a fairweather fan but some of the people are ridiculous. I am not the kind of person who wears all the team colors, nor do I hide when the team is doing poorly. The in your face because the Yankees are champions kind of people drive me crazy. We had the same thing here in LA when eveyone started buying Lakers flags for their cars when Kobe and Shaq were winning championships but the year that they were in the playoffs but did not look like they were going to win it all the flags disappeared.
If you are a true fan you live and die by your team. When the Yankees lost to Arizona and then to your Sox last year I was frustrated but I still love them. I just don't get as upset as I used to.
Boston fans put up with a lot of hardship to watch their teams and are very rabid fans and have been forever. I went to Phillips Academy at Andover and had to be quiet about my Yankees as I played baseball with so many kids from South Boston. Of course they were not doing well anyway at the time.
Of course now that the Yankees are getting closer to the Sox all the fairweather idiots will be coming out of the woodwork. Pretty sad.
