Residence Garden Hotel vs. Areca Lodge

Hi all!

Got two rooms booked, one at The Residence Garden, the other a deluxe room at Areca Lodge...anyone care to give their opinions on which they think is better and why?

Both seems very nice, but Residence Garden is a bit far away from the action, while Areca Lodge is totally non-smoking (not great for a puffer like me!)...

BTW, don't bother giving any other hotel recommendations as I have tried to book several other places mentioned by some of you here, but unfortunately, everywhere seems full...

Don't know much about Residence but stayed four nights at areca last week. Thought the rooms were nice but loved big pool. Nice to start the day w/ lunch at the pool and swim to regain senses lost from prior night. Friendly all the way around and lolitas one minute from your room.

The Residence Garden is actually very close to the action if you are talking about walking street, and if you still want some peace and quiet at the same time then choose that one.
Areca is also very very nice so no matter witch one you choose then you NOT be disapointed.
Have a nice holiday.

Arcea actually suggest that if you want to smoke you can go out onto the balcony.I have had a number of non smoking rooms and as long as you open the window at some time I have never had any comments or complaints whilst in Thailand. In one hotel I was put in the only room available was a non smoking one when I asked to be put in a smoking room, the Manager produced an ashtray from the desk draw saying "Smoking room now, ok?".

ps the motorcycle taxis from the Residence garden seem to have some form of death wish, take a normal taxi whenever you can.

Is Areca really a Non-Smoking hotel?

If that is true I will look for alternative accomadation in April.. I was planning on staying there but this would definatly change my mind on that, I want a smoking room and if they cant provide there customers with one, Then I will look elsewhere...

Thats not the point, They obviously dont want smokers staying in there hotel so I will look elsewhere...

Its does not matter to me if the balcony is two steps away, Sometimes I like to just lie in my bed and have a smoke, Sometimes I like to have a smoke on the crapper, Sometimes I am just too damn lazy to walk out to the balcony... Which is why I would never stay in a hotel that is non-smoking, Also I dont think its fair to smoke in non-smoking rooms which I would end up doing, As the next people in probably dont want a room smelling of smoke etc..etc.. So unless I gave up the smokes and I cant see that happening at the moment... It looks like I will be looking elsewhere... Back to the drawing board

The point is Paul, I know myself and after 1day if even that smoking on the balcony, I would end up smoking in the room and thats not really fair on the other guests that want non-smoking rooms.. Also they probably have smoke alarms...5555555..

I am sure its a great hotel, Thats why I wanted to stay there but there is loads of hotels in Patts, I am sure I will find another one just as good for the same money if I look hard enough...

The Sandy Springs is really nice hotel, Nice pool, Not as big as Areca's but nice, Very GF, Better location than Areca, You can smoke there but it is a little more expensive (The reason I was looking at Areca).. You can get a standard room for 1200bt or a deluxe Seaview at 1400bt....

PS: The standard rooms are the same as the deluxe rooms, Except you get a room on a lower floor without a seaview...

Or you could try INN HOUSE across the road from Sandy Springs. A little cheaper, allow smoking on the balcony but not in room. Also, only has a spa tub on the roof, but a great place to watch the sun go down with drink in hand!!!

i understand ally and its nice your being considerate. i just think you would really liek this hotel alot
as far as sandy springs having a better location its right around the corner, less then a 5 minute walk between the 2 and the street, soi diana, that areca is on is a much better soi

Smoking.......not the happy kind!!

Following AlliB's comments and IJs recommendation I e-mailed Areca Lodge to get an "official" view on smoking policy as it WAS under consideration for 2007.

Reply set out below (hopefully) so I'm off searching again.....likes a nice smoke!!!!

All rooms in our hotel are non smoking rooms and if someone do that I charge 500Baht.[/color]

Subject: Smoking Policy at Areca Lodge Hotel

Hi,

I'm considering booking a room at your hotel in June 2007 or July 2007 for 7 to 14 days.

I read on some guest reviews that your hotel has a no smoking policy. However, I can't find full exact detail of that policy. Please can you send a copy of the smoking policy to me.

Many thanks
Dave

FOR ally and dave i have just booked into a reasonably new hotel on soi 2 for late march 2007 its called the sabai inn
its right next door to the welcome inn and 1 minute from the beach also has loads of beer bars a nd massge places at top of soi 2 ,it has no swim pool but its sister hotel the sabai lodge 50 metres accross the soi has 4 swimming pools which you can use price for the sabai inn 1000 bhat a night sabai lodge 1400 bhat a night both have websites
i know about soi 2 because i used to stay at the beach view hotel at the bottom of the soi before it became run/down a little you are about 5 minutes walk from sabailand/sabaidee/sabairoom massage places maybe 8 minutes along beach road to soi yodasak and as i say lots of beer bars on soi 2 along with soi 3 and 4 and dont forget the classroom 2000 go go big c shopping center is at the top of the road just for IJ it has pizza hut/kfc/burger king 555555555

also being almost on beach road you are right on the bhat bus route down at the bottom of the soi you can not hear any noise at all from the bars on sois 2/3

Tom

thanks for the info which I'll check out later....I found this place on Soi 3 but thought it was a long way away from action areas, your mail suggests otherwise around soi 2. So please feel free to comment advise etc on the attached as an alternate hotel....
