Pattaya opening hours
When is the closing time in Pattaya right now? I was there in nov. 2004 and the city was dead by 1am. (except from a disco or two) Is it still the same way?

I was there 3 weeks ago and the bars are still closing at 1am but you have to bear in mind that the bars in pattaya are all lively from about 5pm in the afternoon so you can still have plenty drinking time , but basically i am tired of pattaya after 20 visits i wont be returning there are better places to go in thailand including patong.

You are drinking in the wrong places MajorTom.
Walking st does close at 1am like you say, although plenty of the beer bars around thie still operate later.
In the many beer bar sois along beach rd, it's a different story however, or let's just say ..how long can you drink for without collapsing ?
I spent many a time watching the sun rise and hearing the birds tweet.

In August Walking Street pretty much closes at 1am, the bars and gogos in the pattayaland sois seemed stay open until 2-3am, maybe not officially. I suspect the outside lights and music goes off but there is still activity to be found behind various curtains and doors.
I'm forming the opinion that Pattaya is the place for off-season and Patong for high season, having had a great time in Pattaya and a foul tour in Patong in August, I'll do both again starting next week ( ) to test the hypothesis further.

There's not that many suicides in reality, most I have read about are expats who can't keep it together.
A bit different from your average holidaymaker I think.

B/B i can only tell you that i used to love pattaya i could never foresee the day i would change my opinion, but my last 3 visits have been gradually eroding my love for the place. Basically its been overun by arabs and russians and i genuinely dislike the place intensely now on my recent visit i left to go to samui 2 days earlier than planned, i was never a big fan of walking street i was always a soi pattayland 2 and soi 2 man but even those areas have been t aken over, i have stayed at the carlton hotel on soi 5 on my last 17 visits but the last 2 times i have been saddled with cheep charlies who seem to think its a good idea to buy cheap booze from the supermarket and sit next to the swimming pool all night getting pissed and agressive and generally causing noise and disturbance to everyone who is trying to sleep (or shag) i am not a party pooper i can get pissed and have fun as much as anyone but i tend to want to be in the company of sensible people and the russians who have taken over pattaya are not in this category i am sorry to say so from now on its bangkok/patong/hua hin/samui for me pattaya is history as i s the case for my 2 friends who were with me 1 (31 visits) the other 14 visits. but for anyone who has a different opinion on the place good luck to you but i am just giving my views and i will definately never return to pattaya.

I was only kidding b4 Talbotman with the ''tired of life'' quip
After 20 visits I can see how any man would get jaded with pattaya, for me it is the kind of place you should only go to for a short stay.
Last may I spent 3 weeks there and it was too much, 1 week would have been enough in reality.
Pattaya has become incredibly popular with the russians, cheap charlies and the general dregs of society. Perhaps because of it's reputation for being cheap in general ?
At the end of my last tour after the wonderful time I had in Chiang mai for Loy Kratong, I decided to hit pattaya instead of BKK to see out my visit.
I never regret going there as I like the buzz of the place, can be very wild at times. I also think the Agogo's are some of the best in los, for various reasons which can't be discussed as big brother is watching.
But it's certainly true that some of the clientele there are somewhat ''undesirable'' nowadays and I agree with you on that.
Took my lady friend for some crab 1 night, went to the King Crab restaurant on walking st. I have eaten there many times and always had a pleasant evening but I remember seeing so many groups of lads there that night, all f'ing and blinding, mouthing off about what they did the night b4 with previous conquests, bear in mind this is a restaurant and not cheap charlie agogo on soi trailer park trash so you would naturally expect people to be a little more tact in this establishment.
Just then a large contingent of russians appear, they had to move the furniture around to accomodate them, must have been around 15 or 16 at a guess. Now I'm not one to judge anyone for their cultural differences but these russians seemed very loud, a little overbearing and had no sense of how they might appear to others. I was glad to finally finish eating and shout out for the bill.
I have seen many people partying in the hotels and pools of patong at night and casuing a disturbance so I don't just think it's only in pattaya.
It is a shame that pattaya is attracting a lot of rubbish but I suppose it was always gonna happen, look how famous the place has become. But in reality you can become bored with anywhere, that happened to me with patong which is why I felt the need to give it a rest for a while and try something new. The same beaches, bar areas and so on became a little too same same and I have read this from other bm's here in the past.
Rather than just saying ''I will never return'', I would rather keep my options open as pattaya still rocks when it comes to the nightlife. Beach each to their own at the end of the day.

FACT.... ALOT OF BARS IN PATTYA DON'T CLOSE AS LONG AS THERE IS PPL DRINKING. the go go' s close and and some of the bigger bars close at 1-2am but if you go to pattaya and not find yourself out and about as the sun is comming up then you need to look just a little bit harder there are tuns of bars that are still full at 6 am i ain't much of a day drinker but i shore do make the most of it at night. why go 6 thousand miles and go home a 1 am!!

Closing Times
The thread started by asking about closing times..Well i am there now following a few days in the capital and let me tell ya this place ROCKS! I am fast closing in on fifty trips to this extreme City and it gets better & better with loads to do. Some of you guys should learn to be more tollerent of other Nationalities and the way they lead their lives. If you don't like the people who stay at your hotel then vote with your feet and move on.
Oh...Closing times, last night i was drinking in a GoGo Bar at 3.00am.

I was in Pattaya in July and some beer bars didn't close. There were also disco's on to 6am every night, maybe 4 or 5 different ones. I also loved Pattaya and will be there in two weeks again.

Been there once for 3 days, saw 1 Thai gang fight (1pm in the afternoon) ending up with a Thai guy stabbed (witnessed by many farang tourists including kids), 2 Farang fights with drunk farangs being twats.
Sorry, its just nasty - I dont care if you can get a beer for 30 baht or whatever, not my cup of tea.
