Either that or you're 100 times uglier than Peter Beardsley and smell like a rotten skunk. On second thoughts, if it's the latter, you'd still get laid in Pattaya....

I can relate to ugly, when I was younger I had to tie a pork chop around my neck so the dog would play with me.

I think he has a point, Pattaya in high-season cannot compare to either BKK or Patong. I enjoyed my low-season week in August, but it will be a cold day in Hades before I return to Pattaya in high-season. Here's what I wrote on another forum about my current stay:
Quote:
I'm almost halfway through my Pattaya stay and, compared to Bangkok, Pattaya in high-season SUCKS. I admit I am a GoGo addict and I have spent a lot of time (too much effort) hunting through the GoGos and one thing is certain, over New Year's there are FAR to many punters for the number of girls. Girls seem indifferent and huddle away from the punters when not dancing. A lot of places , the punters seem to bring their own girl. One GoGo on Soi 7 was banning girls from leaving the bar (short-time only, upstairs) because they were so short of staff to dance. Girls have to get up and dance way to often, so when you do catch one it's a couple of sips of their drink and off they go again for anothe 20-30mins. When you corner one most want only ST and would rather go home than committ to LT.

Yesterday I was asked 1000THB for a ST barfine at a major Walking Street GoGo (yes ONE THOUSAND BAHT). The girl added that the day before (New Year's Day) it would have been 2000THB!!!

I then started asking at the door of other GoGos on WS and got the same reply - Needless to say I left WS, never to return. Out in Pattayaland thing returned to 500THB except Jupiter GoGo where I was the only other customer bar one and about 8 girls where they also asked 1000THB. WTF! Pattaya cheap!? The old Thai business model of "When things are slow, raise prices" is strictly adhered to.

I had a great time my first Pattaya trip in August, so I'm thinking that Pattaya is best avoided during high season. The best f**k in Thailand was a 'mature' lady from Stringfellows, Soi 13/1 IIRC, but in the intervening four months it has closed

Never had any problems in Bangkok, high or low season, nor in Patong, however this year in Patong I got lassooed by my tsunami girl for the whole six nights so didn't get to sample any variety. That was okay because I was looking forward to some serious butterflying in Pattaya - that seems unlikely. Did spend time with her at her friend's bar on Soi Crocadile (a.k.a. Soi Katoey) which is probably where someone earlier mentioned they went for the 'gay cabaret'. That place was rocking over Xmas.

If you are gay I suspect that Pattaya may provide more choice in Pattayaland around BoyzTown, but that's not my thing, so I can't say if the boys are any more welcoming than the girls There are certainly more boys GoGo, Bars and massages places per square metre than anywhere else I've seen.

I'm going to try the Pattaya bar scene tonight and see if I can get any good-looking LT action If not I'll have to cut my losses (my hotel insisted on payment in full in advance because of late booking - won't be falling for that again) and return to BKK. TBH the money I've saved here on ST-only action will probably offset the hotel loss.

Won't be setting foot inside any more Pattaya GoGos this trip.
To update: I had a wander around the bars last night and it's uninspriring. Yes there are many more bars and girls than Patong, but they seem less energetic. Perhaps they are tired after the holiday rush, but the "Hello-Welcomes" are less frequent and without enthusiasm, many girls sit staring listlessly into space.

One thing I noticed about Pattaya on my last tour (August) was that many (but not all, thankfully) of the bars here are configured so the girls sit inside the island with the counter between them and the punters. This both provides a physical barrier and prevents an adequate assessment of the girl's body as you stroll by. Contrast this with Patong where the serving bar is small and the counter area is open to both BGs and punters to sit ever closer together as they hit-it off. I also find the music in some bars WAAAYYY to loud with more heavy boom-box type music-even if the girl had any English, you just can't hear. Patong can be loud but you can still talk.

What I really miss in both beach resorts is a daytime pickup point like BKK's Biergarten, Soi7, where you can sit, eat and pick up a little afternoon takeaway.

Nope, you want beach and bar life, go to Patong, you want GoGos and daytime action stay in Bangkok

Totally agree with you on this Tyfon especially re: daytime pickup, there are some bars along Bangla open during the day but the crew is usually not quite up to par a beer garden would be nice.

I would have thought 1000 ST pretty standard in gogo's but I know where you're coming from.

Err how come the forum police haven't moved this thread to the Pats section, come on Steve.

I think what he was saying was it was 1000 baht bar fine with the girls costs on top of that...

And yeah Patong could really benefit from a great daytime pick up joint and also a lollies style place...

Tyfon is right about the bafrine increase in agogo's around New Years Eve.

I have read before on a pattaya forum, bm's there complaining about some of the ''high end'' agogo's taking the p1ss with raising barfine prices.

But there are 2 sides to the story as some of the expats on the forum pointed out ( the post was the previous years NYE) Like it or not, these high end agogo's like Living Dolls make a lot of money on NYE, the theory will always be that it's the girls that get the punters in..end of story, end of subject.

This is why they raise the barfine prices, to deter customers from taking their girls away while the drinks are flowing like crazy and bums are occupying all seats( usually no standing room either) but I would like to point out that this is usually only before midnight in most cases, or sometimes later 1am -2am, something which Tyfon has not mentioned or he may not be aware of this.

Pattaya is best experienced in low season but so is los in general for that matter, everything is more expensive for this time of year, flights, hotels and all the rest of it, let's not forget that.

The main reason is so the girls dont pay their own barfine, at 500 baht they do pay it themselves, but the 1000 baht puts them off a bit. Of course if your a regular have a word with the manager about it. I know we used to just make regulars pay the normal barfine.

And just so folks dont think that bars just turn it on whenever they want, the girls also get 2 barfines credits and double commission from the higher barfine.

that's a very good point Steve and I can certainly see the thinking behind it, after all, a lot of girls would take the night off (the lazy option) if it was made easy for them to escape the madness of high season events like NYE.

Often punters feel angry about these things but they don't realise why bar owners do the things they do, Tyfon would have been far better just to enjoy the GG shows for a while before heading off to a beer bar soi to get a better price IMHO. Or wait for the Agogo girls to turn into freelancers after 2am on WS.

That's what I would have done on higher priced nights in pattaya anyway.

I fully agree with Thread's preference and not only for the high season.
Having lived and worked in LOS for 7 years, I would recommend to seriously explore Bangkok first before even considering Pattaya or Phuket unless of course one prefers the beaches to females.

From what I keep reading on many message boards, the opinion is pretty much the opposite of yours.

The Agogo's of BKK have become the most expensive.
BKK has been hit hardest with these early closing times.
Many of the s/t & l/t prices for the girls are constantly creeping up and higher than other areas of los.
Then there is the traffic and pollution to put up with.

Most expats with a long wealth of knowledge have been saying for the past couple of years that the BKK glory days are well and truly over.

Ps..the last statement is quoting people on other forums who have lived in los for anything from 10 to 30 yrs.

Here Here, I agree with everything you say butterflyblonde.
Like most people, I would allways spend a night or two in BKK before heading elsewere, but now I dont bother, the nightlife is just to lame and tame.

I much prefer the girls to the beaches......but if you want the girls, they all seem to be were the beaches are.

I weakened last night as I passed a gogo way behind Walking street that I hadn't noticed before. Before I reached a seat a decent-looking (6/10) girl on stage was giving me signals so I sit. I noticed a big Russian making signs for her to join him and she clearly wasn't keen, I was her escape plan... fair enough, by thia stage I'm not proud, and she duely comes over to sit with me. Unusually for PTY, she's all over me and after the usual politnesses (2-3mins) a drink is ordered. Cheers and "I'm come back one minute"... Ten minutes later I peek out of the front curtain (with mamasan chasing me thinking I was running off without paying the checkbin) and girlie is there selling some kind of tickets out front. WTF! She had left her phone with me, asking me to look after it in hope that it would keep me in place while I watched the ice in her drink melt. That wasn't going to work, I handed it to mamasan and left. It's no good, PTY gogo girls are lazy and dishonest (compared to BKK) - no doubt.

I then took in FLB bar - this is the PTY equivalent of Nicke's Mai Thai bar insofar as it is the favouite of board members on Pattayatalk.com (I'm not 100% sure if the owner of FLB also runs the forum as Nicke runs this forum, but FLB is much touted anyway). I am early and outnumbered and VERY quickly get manouvered into a rapidly snowballing session of "you win WE buy you A drink, ONE of us wins and YOU buy ALL of us a drink". Now, I'm a decent sport, but this kind of thing, like bell ringing, usually is left until later in the evening when a rapport has built up and a BG-connection established. This operation was slick and, being sober, I could see the practiced manouverings with both mamsan's involved and two BGs. I bailed before things got out of hand, it wasn't that expensive (couple of thousand) but it was too cynically executed and way too quickly instituted to be tasteful. The bar advertises itself as 'hassle-free'. Note Bene: That's HASSLE, not HUSTLE-free...

This morning I woke at 0946 and decided to bail. Ordered a taxi for 1100 and was b*ll*ck deep inside a total stranger in my room at the Landmark, Bangkok, by 1430. Sent her on her way with 2000THB ST, so grateful was I to be back amongst human beings and out of the doghouse.

Sorry to disagree with you but you seem to really have it in for pattaya and the girls there, I have to wonder why you choose to stay there ? I don't mean this to be rude, just curious.

I think most guys in pattaya who have been going to los for a long time would disagree also, as I said before BKK is not the great place for ''adult nightlife'' that it once was in it's former glory days.

Although it is still worth a visit for a few days, epsecially if you like trendy clubs and other stuff like that as BKK does excel in that department.

There are many reason why I think pattaya has taken over as the premier place to visit for those not bothered about beautiful beaches and just want to see some hardcore adult nightlife.

Rather than going into it I will just simply post an article by the man himself - Stickman of Bangkok.

We'll have to agree to disagree on that one. I've found the girls in Pattaya to be, on average, far less jaded and mercenary than their Bangkok counterparts.

The pattayatalk forum is owned by the FLB. There's been quite a backlash against this place recently with lots of people complaining about the constant ladydrink sharking. Seems funny to me that these complaints have only started flying around since the new owner took over when, in fact, it was just the same when Pete was running the place. I'd have to rate the FLB as the all time worst bar for being hassled to buy ladydrinks that I've ever been in.

Because I enjoyed my stay so much in August, Booked the longest leg of my xmas tour there this year and the place is completely different, it's as if there has been a complete shift-change in girls in those four months. No-one has recognised me from August (and I haven't found any of my August favourites) whereas they do in BKK. Places an faces change with time, but this was like someone flipped a switch.
