1st Trip to Thailand

OK, im planning on going to Thailand 1st/2nd week in Feb 06 (is this a good time to go)
The plan is to spend a night in Bangkok staying at the Hard Rock Hotel (for an experiance really and of course to impress the 3 thai girls i intend bringing back)
Then to head on to Pattaya (not sure where to stay yet) but was proposing to use the 'Classroom Bus' from Hard Rock to wherever we are staying again 2girls and a fridge full of beer i hear.

Once i have established where i am staying in Pattaya (somewhere nice, clean, poshish and close to the action) then i can commence my nights out into Pattaya.

Which would be the top 10 choices of say, bars?
Which would be the top 10 choices of go-go bars & any other 'must see' places
Which would be the best restauarunts?
Is there a casino and to clarify are you looked at as being a millionare if your putting £5 on a number etc?

Sometime throughout my trip i intend to go to Ko Samet for a night with 2-3 girls (is this recommended)

I also want to get some excellent suits made etc since i hear there are some fantastic tailers there.

I also want to go diving one day too. any ideas

Please if you can help do, i want to get the most out of what i hope to be a fantastic trip and i guess these forums are there to get the advice of you guys.

Thanks

Malaysian and a few others just posted some threads on the Pattaya section and so has Crazy Swede and Butterfly Blonde so look at those to get good advice on go gos. Most people go to Pattaya for the go gos so not a lot of infoon beer bars there.

Hi,

Bit of a long-winded reply but I'll try and cover as much as I can, hope some of it will be of use....

Feb is a great time to go to Thailand, the xmas and new year crowds have eased off a bit and the weathers great (I'll be there myself from the 4th )

Didn't think there was a Hard Rock hotel in BKK, just the Hard Rock cafe There's a Hard Rock hotel in Pattaya thats meant to be pretty good, haven't stayed there myself but some friends gave it a thumbs up and it sounds like it may fit the bill for what your looking for.

Never fancied either the Classroom or Misty's pick up services myself as I'm kinda picky when it comes to BGs and wouldn't want to pay out that much cash for a 'blind date' as it were. Last I heard they were charging about 5k baht for the journey too which struck me as pretty steep for a 90 minute journey (considering you can get 3 gogo girls all night for that). A decent taxi from BKK to Pattaya should cost you somewhere between 1000 and 1500 THB.

Top 10s of bars and gogos in Pattaya are a bit hard as everything changes there so quickly and its all so subjective. I'm more of a gogo than a beer bar guy and what was my favourite in June (Diamond) didn't rate so well in October, and what was my favourite in October (Carousel) a friend who was there around the same time didn't like at all! Most of the gogos are on or just off Walking St anyway though, so a couple of very enjoyable nights hopping from one to the other and you'll find which ones are your favourites

Gambling is illegal in Thailand so you'll be hard pushed to find a casino although I think there's a bar/gogo called Casino just behind Walking st somewhere.

Koh Samed is a great place to chill out for a couple of nights and is my favourite side-trip from Pattaya. If you want somewhere really quiet head for Ao Prao on the west of the island. I stayed at the Limacoco there back in June with my TGF and it felt like we had the whole resort to ourselves. Here's a couple of pics....

Cheers

Thanks for your reply,
Your right about the Hard Rock,it is in Pattaya.
So i may do 2-3 nights in Bangkok in a nice hotel and then get the 'fun bus' to Pattaya, maybe stay in the Hard Rock for one night for the crack and then choose somewhere a little more easy on the cash.

Take on board what your saying about the bars etc, i guess i will just have to see which are the hot ones when i get there.

Ha Ha about the Casino didnt realise it was illegal, no gambling there then hey.

Would you recommend Ko Samet following recent news stories etc etc.

Also are there any other 'must see' places over there.

Thanks

In BKK I'd stick to a hotel on lower sukhumvit, plenty of good ones to choose from depending on your budget. Pattaya is cheap and easy to get around so location isn't so important there IMHO.

I'd still recommend Koh Samed for a side trip, its a really nice chilled out island which makes a good contrast to Pattaya which can get a bit hectic. It is very quiet though but as long as you're taking company with you, you'll have a great time.

Pattaya is all about the nightlife so I've never really found that much else essential in the way of sightseeing there. The Sanctuary of Truth in Naklua is worth a visit (http://www.sanctuaryoftruth.com/) but thats about all that comes mind.

The infamous Soi 6 is a good way to spend the day but thats more of a must-do than a must-see

Wow

Thanks again,

That Sanctary of Truth looks unbelievable. Defo worth a vist there.
Just a couple of others questions, i assume you can go on some really great diving trips too,do they have watersports etc.

Also, do the girls mind if you opt to have say 2 a night ha ha.
That girl on your pics looks lovely, what a dress.

Would you ever bring a Thai girl back, and is that what they are all after.

Also, is it best to stay in hotel in Pattaya or hire a house/mansion etc ...

Thanks

Sorry, no idea on the watersports mate, I've only ever seen the sea in Pattaya from the baht bus as I go back to walking st from soi 6 If its diving your after though I think you'd be better off in Phuket than Pattaya.

2 girls at a time isn't a problem although its a bit trickier if you want the girls to get it on together too. Just ask around, have a chat with the girls or mamasans and explain what you're looking for.

As for bringing a girl back to the UK, I don't even want to be here myself so I wouldn't want to inflict it on anyone else I'm working on staying over there instead.

I always stay in a hotel but a mate usually rents a villa in Jomtien which is really nice but far from cheap, depends on what your looking to spend.

I havent spoke to one person who has a bad word to say about the place, everyone i have met either says they are going back every year or their moving there. Have you ever heard of/stayed at this place

Cheers BB, I'm next in Pattaya Feb 5th through 17th before I head down to Phuket. After that it'll probably be late May/early June depending on the situation at work. More than happy to meet up for a gogo crawl or two if our dates overlap.

Player, the hotel you linked to is the Royal Cruise hotel, haven't stayed there myself but a friend who did checked out after 1 night, not girl friendly and gave him lots of hassle. I normally stay at the Residence Garden, a bit out of the way but only 1400 baht for a suite if you book through the Pattayapages site. They've also got a pretty comprehensive hotel review section there.

Don't have too many decent pics as most of mine are indecent

Residence Garden is very nice, if you are on the ground floor, you can step out of your room into the pool. You might have some noise from the garage if your room is there, but nothing you cannot deal with.

The baht busses run all the time in front of the hotel, if you miss the first one, wait 30 sec and another will be along. If you walk, it's only 15min to Walking street.

The buffet is pretty good, but they like to overcook everthing.

Like Lord Farquard says its easy to get about from the RG. The baht bus system in Pattaya is great, around 14p gets you to pretty much anywhere you want to go.

If you're in Pattaya the same time as me drop me a line and I'll show you around a few of my favourite haunts.

I sure wish there was something like that in Patong, I would be more inclined to stay in an area that was a little "quieter"

It's one of the things I love in pattaya, by far the best transport system I have seen in los for the price.

As for patong, will never happen, Why ? 3 words.. 'tuk tuk mafia'

Beer bars..plenty in Soi 7 and 8, off beach Road, and if you fancy staying near the beer bars, stay at Flipper Lodge at Soi 8.no joiner fees, nice hotel with pool.

I prefer the gogo bars and these are the places to check out at Walking Street

1. What's up (gogo)

2. Beach Club (table-top dancing) packed)

3. Peppermint (all-in-one)

4. Coyotee Night club and gogo (best shows and girls) at Soi Marine opposite Peppermint (good reviews)

5. Happy (packed every night)

6. Electric Blue

7. Living Dolls showcase (shows)

8. Catz (gogo)

9. Club Boeche ( a jacuzzi next to bar..unique with girls taking a bath there!) (gogo)

10. Heaven above (gogo)

2 new places just opened worth checking out...X-zone and Angel witch

I prefer to stay nearer to Walking Street..at Sandy Spring Hotel at Soi 13. New hotel with clean large room with pool.

BTW Misty has improved and 2 places for afternoon action is Club Nevada and Misty.

Hope this will help you.

Cheers

The Hard Rock Hotel has the best pool in Pattaya. The swim-up bar is great on those hot afternoons.

Marriott as also a pool like Hard Rock, but those hotels are not in the same price category.
