A long time ago I was advised by several people that the Apex is a sh1thole.

Read the reviews if you need further proof.

Marc26's suggestion for the Areca is a far better choice.

I stayed at the apex about 4 months ago, it was at bit of a shit hole, depends the room you end up in….luck of the draw really, but it was only 500 baht per night, my room was quite good, and it is in a great location.
Better bet is Diana inn, which is almost next door, rooms start from about 800 baht, and I think all the rooms have now been refurbished, and also has a pool. Just one thing…there building a new hotel at the back so it my be noisy, I don’t know. Next trip I’m going to try some of the small hotels in soi LK….it’s a small soi down soi Diana, a bit further from the beach but you can get a new room with all the modcons as well as free wifi in your room for around 500 per night, even less by the month.
Here’s a link with a map, I know nothing about this hotel…it’s the only map I can find.

Metro Apartments Pattaya | and bar, Quality Rooms, Free ADSL EI-FI Internet in Rooms

apex is very nice

I stayed at the Apex last March in their ground floor rooms by the pool. I found the room to be very nice and clean. It is considered their best room, 600B in low season. Definitely worth the 100B more over the cheapest room.

I might have been unlucky with my 500b room but Apex hotel is the worst place i ever stayed.
I am not usually very picky on standards but basic things as curtains is nice to have so you dont have to wake up at sunrise.

And they f*cked up my bookings, wich i had confirmed on email. Had to stay one night in another hotel before i got my room. When i finally got it i only stayed on night and moved next door to Diana Inn, wich is far nicer.

I stayed there one night in Jan by mistake. 500Bt

Its a shiite hole for sure. Broken furniture and appliances. The AC barely worked and was noisy. Sleeping was difficult on the hard bed that gave me a backache.

Never again.

Check out Opey De Place Pattaya. This place is about 5 minutes walk from the Apex on the third road and far superior. I would never stay at theApex again- there's a difference between cheap and cheerful and extracting the urine! Opey has a nice pool, is girl friendly and fairly quiet. Best breakfast in pattaya is just around the corner and includes black pudding yum yum.

I hv to say that this place are more near the Soi Bukao (sp?) than third Road.
You can say it is on the same road as Soi Diana Inn, just cross the street at Soi Bukao n you hv it on right hand side ca 100 meter

Sorry geographically disorientated for a bit! Peter absolutely correct Opey is on Soi Lengkee, just around the corner from Soi Bukao and 200m from Diana Inn. Here is their new web address Opey De Place Pattaya

Just returned from 2.5 weeks in Pattaya. Stayed at 450B per night room at Apex. My drapes and AC both worked. Room service was good. Complaints of room: needs to be repainted and the blanket should be replaced. Hard beds are good for the hard action. Hotel staff is nice. One of the morning buffet gals is really sweet also. I didn't book and the sign said "full," but after talking to them for a few minutes, they recalled me from last year and suddenly found a room for me.
