There's also some good diving to be had in Pattaya if you're into that sort of thing. Last time I was there everyone was apologetic about the diving because "it's not as good as Phuket". While that was true, it was good all the same and, bonus for me, it was different. I'd recommend it.
Personally I hate zoo's.. Wont support the things..
I was under the impression that animals in zoos were there for there for their own well-being - broken legs and blunt teeth or whatever. I'm no expert though.

AGREE.ITS NOT NICE TO SEE ANIMALS CAGED UP IN AREAS THAT ARE NOT BIG ENUFF FOR THEM.......
ITS SAD TO SEE TIGERS IN A CAGE WHEN THEY SHUD BE OUT IN THE OPEN LAND........
Once you try looking for something beyond booze and pussy, Pattaya gets old very quickly.
You could take a walk up to see Wat Phra Yai (Big Buddha) on the hill south of town. There's a good park on the way up with various exercise areas with instructions, looks like a series of regimes people could follow every morning, though I never saw anyone using them 8^)
Also on the way up is a Taoist temple, Wang Sam Sien, with well kept gardens and a series of a couple of dozen friezes telling stories illustrating, mostly, children's duties towards their parents (take the kids, they'll love it! ;^) )
Okay, you're American - walking is against your religion - take a taxi if you must. I walked from Soi 13 to WPY and back and then on up to Big C and back to Soi 13.
The Hardeep wreck dive is a good one off Pattaya - got lucky on the off-season day I did it, water was crystal and no other dive ops out there. It's almost an hour's drive out of Pattaya and then a boat little bigger than a long-tail to the site - that's a proper dive boat, not some gin-palace 8^).
1) Statue of Lao Tzu, founder of Taoism, Wang Sam Sien.
2) Gardens at Wang Sam Sien.
3) One of the friezes at Wang Sam Sien.
4) Confucius, 551-479 BCE, Wang Sam Sien.
5) Proposed motto for this forum.
6) Approach to Wat Phra Yai.
7) Big Buddha.
8) Exercise site on the way up.
9) Ever wondered where the teddy bears sleep during the day? Under the flyover on the way back from WPY.
10) Petrol station, Thai style.
Well if i where you i would hire a minivan, for a day, go explore the countryside down towards Trat...did that last year, while returning from cambodia...My family was in Pattay for golfing reasons. So i Booked a minivan, and packed the family, we went early in the morning and returned around 22'ish.
It was a very good trip, and saw alot of interesting things, i can highly recommend that, paid around 3000Bth in all, and the driver was a very good guide.
Booked the minivan and driver in on of the small Travel Agencies in Jomtien. Cant remember what its called.
You could also Hire a boat, pack a good lunch basket, and goto on of the islands of the coast, the water and beaches there are clean, and some good snorkeling can be done, make a day out of it.
There is also a carting club in Pattaya, where you can rent a gocart, have never tried it though, but can be done.
if your a bit more adventurous, you could goto Ko samet, or even Ko Chang for a couple of days.
Pattaya, is the Las Vegas of the SE Asia...its not appealing, for a holliday, unless your into the barscene.....But that is my opinion.
If you want to experience Thailand, there is truely better places

555555 agree. I too hate zoo's,though,I have been there a few times <kids time> but what I mostly hate is, those ppl who say they love birds. ie. in my neighbourhood there's a person who has several birds,he feeds them properly and take good care also,I must admit, once I asked him why he kept so may birds,he said he loved them, I replied, you f...ker let them fly freely.I will never support zoo's and circus.

Get a ferry to a nearby island, I think it's called Koh Lan or something like that. It has a very quite, nice beach (away from the crowd) - I thyink jetskies were quite cheap down there too...
