Beach Road Problems
I have been reading on another forum about problems on Beach road this is what he had to say
(Beach Road comes in for a lot of slagging by the cyber wimps. Beach Road is very safe especially within normal hours and if you are anyway sober. Why? Because of the heavies, the guys renting boats and shit like that. They don't want any aggro but if ladyboys or any others start acting up, these guys will sort them out. The Old Bill will pick up the pieces.
Two months ago I would have agreed with you abouch Beech safety, but over the last mont or so I have noticed a dramatic increase in the amount of punks and gang-boys hanging along the beech walk. Untill this past month I have never encountered active "pimping" along the beech, but have encountered guys soliciting for their girlfriends more than a few times lately.
Some girls I have gotten to know over the years report it is the worse they have seen. Some of these guys "take over" some of the prime benches at night and only allow their girls to sit there, especially near RGP.
These punks are also harassing the regular girls for money. When they see them go off, then return from a trick, they are hit up for B100-200 "protection".
In the last six weeks, I've seen 2 nasty fights on the sidewalk and 2 weeks ago, a big "gang bang" on the beech itself; about 11pm, no cops bothered to show.
There is a new police chief in town and he doesn't seem to give a shit about what is happening there, but it is not the safe place it used to be.
Too many of these dudes are hopped up and drunk. Walk past a bunch of them at the wrong time, like when they have just run out of booze and have no money, you can easily find yourself a target of oppurtunity like a Brit friend of a friend who picked up a girl just after midnight, walked with her up soi 10 and got jumped by some guys who followed him from the beech. Hespent 8 days in the hospital but considers himself lucky to have survived, his beech girl actually jumped in and got the guys to stop kicking him.
Do not walk alone there, especially if you have a load on.)
Has anyone else noticed a change or had any problems, i know i didn't when I went there last year.

I was there the other week and it seemed fine. But it's been known forever that it's not a place to go wandering late at night when drunk, especially where it's not well lit. In London, the walk from my place to my favourite local pub involves a short cut through an estate that's notorious for crack dealing, thieving and associated skullduggery; it practically has its own weekly column in the local paper. So on the way home, late at night, I walk round it, not through it. Same all over the world. It's not paranoia or being windy, it's just common sense.

my thoughts exactly. ive been to pattaya a fair bit and have never had any use for walking on that side of beach road.
1. i dont go looking for lb's
2. have no reason to want to fight thai boys(well sometimes)
3. and you have to wonder why some of those girls arent working in an establishmnet, AIDS anyone?

Gday guys, I just spotted this on the pattaya mail site.
NOTE TIME 3.45am,.... what a bozo. Thats just asking for trouble.
Swiss man mugged by pimp gang
Boonlua Chatree
A Swiss tourist was mugged by a gang of pimps on Beach Road, who made off with his gold necklace.
Police received a report at 3.45 a.m. on August 26 that Daniel Heest, a 45-year-old Swiss national who was staying at a hotel in South Pattaya, had been robbed when he was walking alone opposite Mike Shopping Mall.
East told officers that two Thai females had approached him offering to sell sexual services. He said that he declined and started to walk away when three youths stepped out from behind a coconut tree and proceeded to assault him, snatching the gold necklace he had bought in Switzerland for 45,000 baht. He called for help from those nearby, but nobody came to his aid. The thieves ran off.
Police could find no sign of the culprits on Beach Road. They questioned the beach girls who witnessed the attack, but none were willing to give statements.
The attackers are believed to be members of a gang going by the name of the Circle Gang. There are about 10 members and they act as pimps for the beach girls. They also get the girls to talk to foreign tourists then jump in and steal whatever valuables they can get. The gang members always manage to make their escape, as the girls do not want to say anything.

this is news to me. i've never encountered anything like this while walking the road. may have been one of those times you know.
seems odd that the new police chief would not do anything since the city depends so heavily on tourist money not to keep it safe .
But I wouldn't stroll down a barely lite place anyway if i had tied one on anyway.
pattaya is still one of my favorite places

He should have just hung around for 5 or 10 minutes, they would have been back again, but there again I just noticed he was a Swiss guy, probably just popped out to tell the time, bang a drum and had to go back in.
