From Pattaya to Koh Samui

Could some1 advise if its possible to travel from Pattaya to Samui by boat, and how long would it take. I keep looking and cant find anything, starting to think that you can only get there by plain, but i can recall some1 mentioning somewhere that its a 2 hour journy by speedboat.

Looks like the distance is about 350 miles or 550 km from Pattaya.

think it would take more then 2 hrs by boat, if you fly it's 45min to an hour. and it would prob be cheaper to fly as well with bangkok air. don't see the point in going by boat, you know what it's like in thailand if you make some1 an offer to take you to sumui by speed boat, if the price is right i'm shur you will find a willing volenter

anyone who wanted to go by speedboat from Patts to Samui would be crazy....it would cost you more in chiropracter fees than the airfare.....oh and BTW it would take an age to get there.......more like 2 days than 2 hours.....

4 hours total? I had the impression it was suitable for a daytrip.

I was watching Lost (2nd Series) last night. Are there any beaches with jungle rather than a main road next to them - suitable for a 1 or two day trip from Patts? It'd be nice to take a bird for a day or two and feel like you're on you're own exotic island.

Maybe check out Ko Chang, I went there 10 years old so maybe things have changed a bit, but I had a bungalow on the water surrounded by jungle, it was good for 2 days or so, but it was a little to quiet for me. But with a bird you would be ok. The island is a national park and very beautiful. Think it was about 3 hours from Pattaya, you get the bus to trat and then a short ferry ride to the island.

sorry to disappoint lads but Samet is actually much closer to Patts than Chang.....just check out any map......Ban Phe vs Trat....

Samet has the whole jungle/isolation thing in abundance tho' walkerbx so if you are prepared to get up at a reasonable hour you can get to it by lunchtime one day and leave late afternoon/early evening the following day.....this to me is OK but I'd prefer to spend another day.....to me it is worth it...just to get into the laidback vibe after being in Patts....

If I were heading to Chang I definitely would want longer as it is more like 5 hrs in a bus from Patts to Trat and then a similar ferry ride out.....

There are some Islands, of the coast of Pattaya/Jomtien...you can get a tent a nice girl, and hire a boat to take you and to pick you up.

There are some nice snorkeling on these little islands, but be advised, there are some very very big Lizards on the islands to, and they eat your garbage, and hang around your camp.

Met a russian who did this, with a girl....I had hired a boat to go snorkeling, and they sat there right on the beach when I arrived, had almost no food and clean water left, somehow the boat they had arranged to pick them, didnt come, i gave them a lift back to Jomtien...was a fun day, especially, when the Lizards came out of the undergrowth, some of them 1 1/2 to 2 meters in lenght.

Hi guys! I did a search on koh samet and this thread came up.......
I'm thinking of going for 2 days...Patts-samet 4 hours total right?
What i would like to know is how far is it from Samet-Bangkok? How would i do this? as i would be going to bkk straight from samet to get my flight home. Prices of ferry, minibuses etc would be appreciated!
Can anyone reccomend any nice hotels under 2000baht?
Thanks in advance.......

hey falanger.......I stayed at malibu garden resort right on Vong Duen beach....which to me is the most idyllic beach on the island........check it out on the web.....accommodation is pretty good without being exceptional for your budget range......should be abot Bht1800 per night

I wouldn't advise going out of Samet on the same day as taking a flight outta BKK.......I'd say you are looking at about 6 hours and connections aren't always good..........don't forget there are only a few ferries per day

I would advise leaving late in the afternon and getting into BKK for a last night out and an easy day leading up to your flight..........

You can get a cab to Patts for about Bht1200.....stay at least one night and then get a trip with an agent which includes bus to Ban Phae + ferry to the front door of Malibu for around Bht500 or so......that would be my pick

Thanks a million for the reply nelsonone! That malibu place sounds just the ticket...I will check it out....
My flight actually leaves bkk at about 8am so i would be in bkk the night before anyway....
That should be me sorted now 9 nights in patts and 2 in samet,1 in Bangkok..
cheers

It is possible to rent a boat (not speed boat) for going from pattaya to koh samui, but it will probably taka you at least 2 days (most likly 3 or 4 days).
The best way is by plane from u ta pao.
But i think you mean koh samet.
You can take a taxi/minibus from eny hotell in pattaya to go there. The taxiride will be about 1,5 houers, then a ferrytrip for about 0,5 houers.
I can also recomend koh chang. It will take you about 2 - 2,5 houers with taxi/minibus to the ferry, than about 0,5 houers ferryride.
Both koh samet and koh chang is very nice plases!
