Pattaya Hotel
I'm spending the weekend in Pattaya, can anyone recommend me a budget hotel, preferably with swimmingpool? (Anything but Apex)
Sorry for being lazy, I'm leaving tomorrow, and don't have time to do much research.
Thanks, MT

Hi Eric, try giving the Areca Lodge a go. 1150 Baht a night through their website, 2 swimming pools, price includes a nice buffet breakfast. Very good location in Pattaya.

SORRY BUT i have to disagree the best value budget hotel in pattaya is the carlton hotel on 2nd road opposite the alcazar on soi 5
650 bhat a night clean rooms with large swimming pool and unlike THE ARECA LODGE ITS on the bhat bus route
i spoke to my mate john (who unlike me is not a lazy bas tard 55555) and he confirmed my thoughts that the areca is to awkward to get anywhere else in pattaya you cant get a bhat bus there and even if you walk the 10 minutes down to 2nd road you can only get taxis going north to go south you have to walk a further 7-8 minutes down to beach road
as i said i like the carlton but nowadays i just love secrets so i stay there now another good hotel is the FLIPPER HOUSE at the top of soi 7 has a swim pool on the roof
i know i will get a sarcastic reply from IJ 555555 but its all about opinions and my opinion is that the areca is definately not idealy located although i agree its a cracking hotel !
in 100 degree tempratures i simply dont want to do too much walking i need my energy for other things 555555

i looked at your link before for the carlton hotel and it did look good, especially for the money
and i agree with IJ on the other subject 55555
10 mins to 2nd road, its 2 mins
you must stop off for 2 beers on the way!!!

Turn right out of Areca Lodge and down to the crossroads (1 min), baht buses go down Soi Bukhaow to the crossroads where 2nd road meets Beach road.
Useful to hear about the Carlton though.

2nd rd 1 min walk from Areca....3rd rd 2 minutes....and beach rd probably 3 mins..........
plus its right in the muidle of Patts.....just near Mike's Shopping Centre
I would say its one of the easiest places to get around town in the whole of Patts.........unless of course you never leave Walking st.......55555
The pools are the clincher for me at Areca.......outstanding.....and you've gotta have a good one in Patts as the beach is unswimmable and it's bloody hot there at the mo'.....the rooms are a good size too.....
Don't know the Carlton but will give it a look now

I think by HKT he meant the airport as HKT is the code for Phuket airport and he is flying to Pattaya.

FIRST OF ALL the last trip was my first time staying in walking street area in my prvious 26 visits i have stayed at the carlton on soi 5 or the old beach view on soi 2 at beach road even jomtien 2 times i was never a regular on walking street soi 2 and soi pattayaland 2 were my areas
one night when leaving the rockhouse on soi lk metro we stood 20 mins waiting for a bhat bus none came so we walked down to 2 road i still say a casual walk where you are not soaking with sweat at the end will take you about 8-10 mins then at least another 5 mins down to beach road
as i said the carlton is great value has a money changer and atm in the car park ,nice coffee shop restaurant, 2 mins walk to soi 2/3 bars and all the big massage places, 5 mins to yodasak and is on the circular bhat bus route all for 650 bhat a night (room next to swim pool)

could u please explain to me what u understand when u say the word "swimming" ???
i found pty beach absolutely swimmable & i dont really consider myself a good swimmer...
in adittion, there is always breeze from sea & so much shade of umbrellas and trees...
r u saying it is colder by arecas pools (if u dont get a sun tan in A/C pool bar ) ???

Without wanting to speak for Tommy, I think we are all referring to the horrible water quality at Pattaya Beach, rather than any dangerous currents or rips which make it unswimmable.
