Island getaway
Hiya,
I will be in Pattaya in September for 10 or so days and have a quick question and am hoping you guys can give me some advice. I am looking at doing an overnight stay on a island but am stuck for which one to go for. I just want a lazy day or two on the beach and to do some general exploring. Any advice will be appreciated.
Cheers.

Nearest one is Koh Samet. Very queit but ideal for a 1 or 2 night stay. Travel agents in Pattaya can fix you up.

Enter koh samet into the search function...
shared minibus from your hotel in pattaya-koh samet inc ferry about 500b or something. 2or3 hour drive..very nice for a few quiet days. Nice beaches....rent ATV for 1500b 24 hours....
Bring company

KOH SAMET is a place i would not recomend staying overnight on , its overrun by mosquitos and is a malarial zone so unless you are taking a course of malaria tablets before arriving in pattaya then dont stay overnight.
THERE are closer islands to pattaya koh larn (coral island) is the closest it has lots of bungalows for overnight stays, also close to patts is koh si chang which is reachable by a ferry from si racha which is about 30 minutes from pattaya,
about 3 years ago i spent 3 days on koh si chang with 2 ladies had a great time !!!!!!

READ ANY of the popular tourist guides to thailand including lonely planet and they all warn you that koh samet is a malarial area and advise not going there without proper course of anti malarial medicines (these tablets make you feel sick as a dog so i wont take them so that means no overnight stays for me on koh samet)
as i say i stayed on koh si chang (different from koh chang) and had no problems there,. do a google search for koh si chang and you will find details how to gert there and also contact info for bungalows to stay in .

2 years ago i did a climb up to the view point on Ko pagnan from Had Rin beach. It was through the jungle and i was wearing shorts and a tshirt. There where so many mosquitos that every naked part og my boddy was attacked. It was really hard to climb up and i was tired as hell. I had a big hangover hehe , but i couldn't stop to rest because they eat me alive. When i was standing still to figure out how to climb i constantly had to keep moving my arms and legs to keep them away. Eventually i just turned arround because all i felt was my whole body itching and swelling .... i said to myself i go back when i got different clothing. But i never did haha.

of course there are mosquitos everywhere in thailand we have all suffered from them but most areas the mosies are not malarial you find malarial mosquitos in areas where there are pools of stagnant water ie areas where there is no inlet or outlet for the water to flow, generaly this tends to be in islands or hill areas. ALL rivers in pattaya flow into the sea hence no malaria area.
at the end of the day its the same as s hagging t/gs bareback if you want to take the chance go ahead !
