Pattaya's Mai Thai Bar Equivalent
I've been to Thailand both on my own and with friends and as I'm sure you know, you can't help but get talking to all kinds of random people while you're there, especially when you're on your own. I'm surprised that I've never even met anybody out there who has heard of the board. No doubt I've sat alongside other BMs having breakfast as there are only a couple of good places to get a proper breakfast - Pig n Whistle, Sportsman...
I'm about to hit Pattaya for my 6th time next month. My first time was only 2 years ago - not even! Truly addicted. I've spent very little time in Bangkok at all and so I've never been to Mai Thai Bar. Is there not an equivalent in Pattaya where the BMs get together?

No not really...I'm sure some board members will meet up at a bar of their choice but nothing like a MTB.

Mai Tai Bar is in Soi Eric in Patong, Phuket, not Bangkok.
Keep reading the board, see who's in Patts when you go, try Secrets, but better still pm a few guys for a meet.

Secrets have their own forum (hope I can say that here) and many of the BMs meet at Secrets. Say hello to Larry (I think he's a BM here, albeit not very active, under the name Secrets) and he'll generally know if there are any members of this board in Pattaya at the time.

Secrets is nothing like MTB, just to point that out to anyone reading this thread.
More BMs from this forum seem to be going to Pattaya. There is a thread floating around (with a spelling mistake in the title....) asking when your next trip to Pattaya is.
That has sort of become the de facto "Pattaya Arrivals" thread, enabling BMs to see who is in town, and when, with a view to arranging a meet.
I would be delighted if there was a sticky such as that created in the future. Oli, I think you were volunteering to keep it up to date, right?

Cheers lads.
Are there really more BMs in Pattaya than Phuket now?
I was actually considering staying in one of the Secrets' Villas. Very expensive but looks to be extreme luxury. 150 Baht to Walking Street in a Tuk Tuk though so I'm thinkin it's miles away. The exact location is confidential you may have noticed at the website. Maybe a board admin (or whoever makes the decisions) should think about asking them to put a chalk board up in the bar to write your username when you walk in, as they do at Mai Thai. "The designated meeting place for BMs in Pattaya" might be a title they'd appreciate the publicity from and maybe there'd be something in it for us too. Sponship possibilities for the site as well no doubt.
I was in Cherry Bar a few weeks ago I think. It was the only place I could find that would sell me a beer on that day. I won't elaborate any more so not to get them in trouble but they were busted twice in the space of an hour while I was there and I think they had to bribe their way out. We were all sat there with our beers next to our balls pretending we were all there only to watch the match. There's no fooling them when there isn't a soul in any of the bars on soi 8 and this one is crammed. It's the one that's always packed due to happy hour yeah?

i wouldnt say that. after all this is a phuket board and most of us love this place and meet up in Patong. i think BM's are also checking out other areas like Patts more often and travel around.

Should be a thread on the Secret Villas done by the evilpenevil fellow, think he mentioned the secret location of the villas was a good 10 minute ride to walking street, like in Pattaya Hill or Jomtien.

THE SECRETS VIP RETREAT (villa) is excellent i stayed there for 3 days in december it was excellent
i cant give you the xact location and address as its a SECRET seriously its not advisable to give it out or else you find loads of secrets bms turning up at your doorstep for a free ride and feed 5555
all i can say is its on the other side of the main sukhumvit road highway we got the secrets car to take us their and i reckon it took 25 minutes to get their from walking street.
the secrets taxi is available 24/7 for transport to/from the town for 150 bhat air conditioned and comfortable
if you stay there just take beers and spirits with you dont as i did take food because 1) you get a huge english breakfast cooked for you every morning at 11am and second their is a folder in the house for food delivery almost all the main and popular restaurants in pattaya are in their with only one number to call and they will collect and deliver to the house.
any more info you need just pm me

I was in Pattaya last 2 weeks and can also recomment Secrets as a very nice bar. Met Larry, who is a BM on this board and on the secrets board. Also had a good night out with Irish Johnny and some others. Some very attractive BG in Secrets. But u cannot compare it with MTB, it's a totally different kind of bar. I also stayed at Secrets hotel and I found it worth the money and very convenient.
Cheers,
Raval

Thanks for the suggestions on other BM bars in pattaya. The weekly bar crawl with adam sounds like a good night out to meet new people. Will try to check out secrets also.

There's so many good beer bar and agogo's in pattaya that it's easy to find a bar you find yourself comfortable in, so many guys I've met have their preferences from walking street all the way up 2nd road to soi 2, naklua beyond that and a multitude of places to the east of 2nd road.
Any bar can have that MTB feel if you go regularly enough and the patrons are friendly. Wherever I lay my hat, that's my home as paul young once sang.

Just read the OP again. I can't believe you think there are only a couple of good places for breakfast ... after 6 trips! You obviously don't get out much.
Try Greg's Kitchen, Jack Tar, the Queen Vic or Tropical Berts if you're close to Soi 6, the Haven on Soi 13, Canterbury Tales near Soi Buakhow just for starters. All of the English pubs and the Irish pubs (and there's a ton of them) claim to have proper breakfasts too, though I haven't tried them myself.
I also like to have the huge submarine sandwich that they make at Viking Beachcomber on Soi Pattayaland 1 (I think), or pop in to Au Bon Pain in the Royal Garden Plaza.

Had a (fast) dinner between 2 "Soi 6 bars" in Queen Vic and it was very good price quality.
Top of Royal Garden Plaza there is some "restaurant" where you chose what you want from different stalls and pay at a central cash-register when you leave. Girls love it.

Cheers for the breakfast recommendations. I'll be sure to give them a try. There's nothing worse than sitting down for a well earned breakfast and then it being shite when it comes. I guess I was just playing it safe by only going to those two places.
