Your first time to thailand will be a time of fun and exitment mor than you relise. The last thing you would want to happen is to be there wishing you would have saved more money because you want to fully experience the delight thailand has to offer. Your better off to double your budget and really enjoy this time in your life, saing a little more will make a huge difference to your experience.

Give this a try!
Why don't you eat the 2 baht rice and get tanked on Thai whisky before you leave your hotel room and then you will have 1800 or so for a decent girl? Then every other day don't get a lady and have a decent meal and a few drinks. WIND UP THREAD!

Some of the responses were valid....But some of the comments which were directed at people were uncalled for and wrong.
Dan Boy was right, if we all looked at the Org Post - He said it was his dream to have S*X with an Asian Lady... So 1800 Baht a day was not going to do it. Lots of people tried to budget and help... But really, even I know that 1800 - 1900 a day it not going to go far.... Do what I am doing save like hell and then have 2000 baht a day to spend.. HA HA

I guess I was either very lucky then or I'm very good with my haggling skills, as the first time I've been in Patts my friend and I paid just 1100 baht for an hr on a 1200cc or something like that jet ski
by the way hi guys this is my very first post...don't be too harsh

Prices vary from resort to resort and season to season, to an extent.
There are a number of jet-ski opperators who run a scam with tourists, which is what Gezza was saying. When you return, their charge you for non-existant damage. As the tourist police, there are in on it, so there is little you can do apart from pay. This is especially so around Phuket.

Welcome to the board.
Mt comment regarding the 30k baht was due to some people getting ripped off by some of the jetski operators in Phuket.

Dont dont dont even think about going to paradise is you cant afford to enjoy it. If the ladies are your main reason for going then a happy lady is better company and that usually means better in bed....and its going to cost you.
Truly there is nothing worse than worrying about the pennies when all you want to do is have a ball. Get your cards in order, note the number for cancelling them ALL quickly the second (god forbid) they go missing and always have enough cash to cover you until the replacement arrives.
Get organised to enjoy. I can afford to get to Thailand twice a year on a tight budget but doing it once means I can 'go a little further' when I do. And I dont drink either.
This site is brilliant but I think most would agree that the first solo trip is always going to be one of discovery and 'learning the ropes'. Its that knowlege that makes subsequent trips all the better.

He's been and gone. Maybe it was an innocent question maybe not.
I came out to Samui a few years back thinking I could survive on under 2000B a day, and on paper it's possible,... I blew my budget but got the addiction! Now out here full time, no regrets!
But as posted before, you can have a budget but sometimes things happen here where you need cash beyond the budget.
So what I'm saying is don't come out here without some source of back up funds.

Hate to pile on here, but I think the consensus is in.... don't do it! Look, if you want to go to Patts and have a great time, do it. If you want to get laid on super tight budget, stay home and look around. My council would be this, based on many adventures and travels (but none to Thailand until this February myself!): You only go around once in this life. You may never get to Thailand again. Spend as much money as it takes to have fun without hogtying yourself, and trust to the fates that it will be ok. In other words, loosen up on the purse strings. I've found that one thing in life that is infallible is that when I start worrying about money and hoarding and scrimping, money becomes very tight. When I let go and spend, money returns my way. I don't know how to explain it but I did hear a friend talk about this once, she said that the money gods favor those who trust in them rather than fear them. I think she's right. If you want to have fun, go and spend like there is no tomorrow. I hate to say it (I'm 47 myself) but at 53, there MAY BE no tomorrow! What are you saving your money for?
If you can't hang with that advice good luck. Maybe I could buy you a dinner in Pattaya in February.
