Sang Som the pain killer

Hi BM's
Got back from Pattaya on the 7th of April and still in huge pain.
Broke 3 ribs staying at Areca Lodge on Soi Diana by slipping in the shower/bath and landing on the side of the bath.
I bought back 2 bottles of Sang Som and have been using it as a pain killer to ease the pain. Works a treat!!.
This after numerous broken bones would have to be the worst pain I have ever experienced in my life. Can't breath properly, coughing and sneezing is the pits as well and this happened on the 27/3/08.
Went to the doctor again today only to be told it just takes time to heal. Yeah right!!. ( doctor say's pain might be around for another 4 weeks Fcuk off ).
Has anyone else found that Sang Som is the pain killer of choice and yes it gets you pissed but also numbs the pain.

Hee dbaron,

Sorry to hear but are you sure you drank it before or after the slipping,,,,,,,,,,,,,, 5555.

As a matter of fact I know how it is and it isn`t funny.

Make sure a doctor checks for sharp ends on the broken ribs cause this can rupture the pleural area and could mean danger. Suppose it`s ok looking the timespan but better safe then sorry.

If OK, take about 150mg of Tramadol 3 times a day, you don`t need a prescription, at least not in phuket, patts same I presume. This really helps you out. However take care with this medication since it is a rather strong acting opoide for at least 6 hrs. That means: no alcohol or any other suppresants !!. ( btw, this is max dose !!!)

Good luck.

I feel for you dbaron. Done mine a couple of times. Hurts to laugh and even breath. They used to wrap you up in bandages but don't anymore cos they want you to take full breaths. That's the key to a speedy recovery...try to breath deep even though it's painful and move as little as possible, otherwise it can take forever.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune and with 9 or 10 days left in LOS to boot.

If it had been any of most BM's I would have guessed a BJ by a TG was the root cause.

Never have had a broken bone in my life, I can only imagine the pain and discomfort.
Hope it will be much less than 4 weeks before you reach a level of some comfort.

I also slipped and fell while getting out of the shower at Secrets Hotel last week. The room phone rang while i was in the shower right after an afternoon ST....thinking there was a problem with the girl at the front desk I ran for the phone and slipped on the shiny tile floor, sliding into the night stand with my knee....which is still sore and bruised. (come to find out it was only Iltis calling from his room next door).

I know the pain your going through as I've also had several cracked ribs during my past years of dirt bike racing in the desert. I remember the worst part was not being able to get out of bed in the morning....I used to have to slide out onto the floor.

Hope you have a good and speedy recovery DB,

Hmmm....ribs.My experience is they only hurt when you laugh or sneeze, just stay away from funny bastards and black pepper. 55555

Gotta say,it`s much better to break bones than to get ligament or tendon damage.
I`ve broken both my leg`s,1 arm, shoulder, collar bone, ribs and fingers over the years and they don`t give me any trouble.

Have had 3 knee operations for ligament and soft tissue and cartiledge damage ,they never heal properly and detiorate over time, whereas bones always mend.

Tough it out buddy, you`ll fine in the long run.

dbaron did you declare the lethal sang som to customs when entering Australians border or did you smuggle it in because as you may know Australian customs remains focused on intercepting illicit drugs and other items potentially harmful to the community. And I reckon that sang som is potentially harmful.

You should try puking then… After my second accident I got away with a few bruised ribs and some muscle inflammation in that very area. Feeling sorry about the situation, I decided to treat myself with two 7/11 hotdogs with all the toppings on display. Not the greatest of ideas.

Felt as if someone had rammed a stick through my chest. Didn’t try the Sang Som remedy though.

No clear chem no sang som before just a couple of Singhas. 3 I think so not enough to cause the fall.
I went to lean out of the bath to open the door to call my wife to tell her I was finished showering and put my foot on the wrong part of the bath.
Over I went.
Have been to the doctor here in Aus and no sharp ends are reported just the fact the ribs are displaced and will take a bit longer than normal to heal.
In Aus we have a pain killer called Advil which is taking the edge off the pain just nicely. Thanks for your thoughts.

Regards

DB

Your right Walkerbx.
Laughing, coughing, sneezing, ouch!!!!!!!
Don't wrap them up anymore for more than 48 hours because they say it can cause pnuomonia because as you say without the deep breaths you can't clear the moisture in your lungs and that is bad news.
I am trying to breath deeply where I can.
Thanks for your concern also.

Your amazing MrDK,
Thank you for your concern also,
You must have looked back at my posts to know the time I had left in Los with the family.
It was a very hard time to keep myself motivated to do the things the family wanted to do and suffer the pain as well but you just have to keep going.
I spent 2 days by the pool and then decided I had to just go on and try to forget the pain.
Did it and seen some amazing things and visited some amazing places and even with the kids did not see bed much before 3-4 am mosts days.
Doctor today say's about 6-8 weeks before okay but thats life.
At least I spent a couple of weeks in paradise.

Reagrds

Thanks for your thoughts also as well as Marc,
I am sorry I did not meet up with some of you at Secrets as Likeitalot and I think Iltis was there at the same time as me.
With the family it made it a bit hard and the injury did not help either.
Maybe next time we can go have a drink.

Thumbs up Thanks to all you guy's

Can I just say thank you to all you guy's for your concern and best wishes as well as advice.
This is a great board and without you guy's it would not be the same.
Even though I don't know some of you ( I do know the guy's I met in Phuket in May/June at MTB ) the more time I spend on this board I feel that you are all friends. It is amazing how you can communicate with people from all over the world and feel you know them.
Once again thank you for thinking and caring.

Get well soon DB.

Sang Som sounds like a nice drop.

I wonder what Sang Som means (Som = Orange)?

Is it expensive?

Does it come in 700ml bottles with 37% proof?

Is it similar in taste to any well known drinks?

Sang Som is a cheap rum made and mostly distributed in Thailand. It is hard to get outside Thailand.

.30L is 115 baht at the 7/11. They do come in bigger bottles, so extrapolate the price.

It's 80 proof, or 40% alcohol. It won't light on fire.

It doesn't taste like any "rum" I have ever had anywhere in the world. It tastes more like a whiskey to me, but then again Regency is a "brandy" in Thailand, but it tastes like whiskey to me as well....

Been trying to re-stock in England for a while now, but cant see to find it! (OK not looking that hard!) As my last bottles were drunk by my greater family at the last 'do' we had. The Bastards!

I always thought Sang Som meant 3 and 2 respectively. But then im no Thai speaker. So im prob wrong.
