Exchange Rates

Hi All

Can you advise what the current XR is for the GBP in Pattaya. I can get 47baht per £ but wondered if I should wait until I get to pattaya. Also Where in pattaya would you recommend or is the BKK Airport ok too. Thanks

errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrm if you look to the right of your screen you'll see the current exchange rates- they are in the little box with 'currency exchange rate' as it's title.

it is bangkok bank! you can find it all over thailand!
check the rates there and of course other thai banks when you are in patts.
i found that the rates are not very different from one bank to the other.
but some BM's may know better deals???

Any bank (or exchange booth attached to a bank) will be fine. Unless you are exchanging many thousands of pounds in bank notes all in one transaction, you'll only save a few baht by hunting all over the city for the "best rate."

For amounts in excess of £500.00 in cash, there is a Thai/Chinese bank at the entrance to Rungland Village on Pattaya Tai (South Pattaya Rd) who always claim to offer a rate which is better than the major Thai Banks. They even improve the rate slightly more if you are exchanging £50.00 notes.
I've used them frequently and I must say their boast is justified especially when you notice that the Indian tailors also use this place.

you can change your first night money at the airport in bangkok you won;t loose enough on your first nights spending to lose any sleep over.......with the day to day changes in exchange rate if you land on a high point the following day it could be lower in Pattaya, so insignificant to stress yourself out over very little baht

Last time I was there I kept a track of the best posted rate available each time I used the ATM's with my Nationwide Debit card. Not only are you not charged to use it (except at the purple coloured bank - sorry forget the name of it) but I was almost always getting an extra Baht to the pound compared to posted rates. Big fan of the Nationwide card (as has been said by many before).

Having "bigged up" the Nationwide card for being free to use, what do they go and do but now say they ARE going to charge to use it abroad from 1st of June 09. Evidently lots of people were using it JUST for that reason and not actually putting much money IN.... Makes business sense I suppose but a pisser none the less. :-(
