Metro Appts & Billabong Hotel
Has anyone stayed at either of the above Hotels before and can tell me what the standard is like ........??????
Both are in the L.K. Metro Soi.
Or anyother sugestions around the same area would be appreciated, other than Areca Lodge.

They're both guesthouses located on the Same Soi. One is a few doors down from the other. The Metro Apartment website has photos of the rooms. Anyway, most of the guesthouses on that soi are a good value for the money. And the location is good. Plenty to do right there, or, you can take a baht bus down to Walking Street.

I;ve stayed at Siam Sawasdee Hotel near there a few times. It is a big hotel with large pool, parking, big restaurant, good staff, and 24/7 desk. The best thing about it is the breakfast buffet, all you can eat, good choice of Thai or farang food, fruit, juice and coffee.
It is, however, a budget hotel, unlike Areca Lodge. Which means big rooms with decent views, clean, but everything could use a coat of paint, and no separate shower stall, and the drains are a bit slow. But there was adequate hot(warm) water, and the AC worked well.
Current internet rate is 760/night. It is on Soi Buakhaow, a stone's throw from Soi Metro. I probably would not stay there again, because no free internet.
A couple of tips for that neighborhood: in the vacant lot next to Siam Sawasdee are some good outdoor restaurants(noodle places, Pad Thai, Khao Pad, etc.). Across the street and down a few doors, the restaurant with the blue tile roof, Dianna Millenium restaurant has the best filet mignon you will ever get for 160 Baht anywhere (if price is same as last year).

To be honest Dan money isnt a problem, its just that I decided to have a change from the usual.
If you have any suggestions then let me know, although I might just bite the bullet and go to Areca Lodge after all, as they have a Delux pool view available for AU$566 for 10 nights .....!!!!!

Well i have just got back from my 2nd stay at the Pattaya Bay Resort and will stay there next time aswell. It's only a 5 min walk (max) from Soi Lk Metro and despite what people say about the location it's ok with me. They have a free Tuk Tuk that's takes you to either Soi Buokhao for to 2nd road (within 3-4 mins to walking street). Or you can cut through the Avenue shopping centre to which brings you out opposite Soi 12 / 13.
Most importantly the reception staff are as cute as hell !!
Other than this have heard good things about the Flipper Lodge...

The place has a nice large pool, and they'll serve you any kind of food you want, poolside. The restaurant is right on the complex. It's on Soi 2, which has it's own nightlife, and Big C and the soapy massage places are right down the block at Second Road. The baht buses go right by, day and night.
Anyway, I'd stay there again, although it would be nice to see rates below 1000 baht.

Yep, they're girl friendly. Actually, I once heard that the same people own the soapy place down the block and that you can get a discount on a massage if you're a hotel guest. I'm not sure if that's true, though.

Well I bit the bullet and booked the Metro Appts, big room 700baht p/n, and also booked for them to meet me at the BKK airport and drive me down, 1300baht, which is pretty good as well.
Gave it quite a bit of thought and was nearly tempted by other hotels, most of which I've stayed at before so this will be something new and in an area I haven't been to before, funnily enough seeing as how many times I have been to Patts.
I will give you all a TR when I get back and let you all know what I thought of the place etc (and the girls ...555)
thanks for all the info lads, lets hope it works out o.k. -

5555 - yes you could say that easy - will be seeing her in the last week but I feel like a bit of 'own' time after what has been a very frustrating project I've been working on for the last 8 months ..........

hi Les... have you stayed at the Jomtien Boathouse before, I'm thinking of staying there in early August, I read some reports saying its a bit out of the way and no sea views due electrical wires and trees

Hi - I stay there just about everytime I go to LOS to be honest as I think its a very good place to stay.
Rooms are quite big, room safe, staff are very friendly and they do a very good breakfast (not free however, mind you I'm never up in time anyway ....wink, wink)
The top floor is ok as its above the electric lines and yes there are trees infront of the sea, but to be honest I dont usually sit gazing out to sea anyway, if I want to do that I hire a deckchair and sit on the beach, which we do almost everyday .....!!!!!!
As for it being out of the way, yes it is a bit which is why I like it, there are some very good, cheap restaurants within a 5 min stroll along with some very nice 'street food' places.
If you want some bars there a a couple of Soi's again within a 5 min stroll or you can catch a 10baht taxi to a few other bars up round the corner from the beach or 15 mins and you're in Patts.
To be honest it depends what you want, I always go there with my Thai g/f so for us its perfect, if you want to go mongering then I would stay to Patts not Jomtien.
Oh and 1050baht for seaview and 875baht for garden view - bargain ....555
