High Speed Ferry Pattaya - Hua Hin
Quote:
|
Many believed it would never happen, however, the new Pattaya to Hua-Hin ‘High Speed Ferry’, has finally made it into the water after two years of meticulous preparations by the Swedish owners. The new ‘Thai Living Ferry Co’ craft, aptly named ‘Imagine’, will be licensed to carry up to one hundred passengers, after it has passed its sea trials which are now taking place. The new daily service is due to start this month, hold onto your hat when making the trip.

OK, the ferry is high speed. But what does that mean? How fast does it go. How long does it take to get to Hua Hin? Is it actually faster than taking the bus? If so, how much time do you save?

This is unconfirmed, but I've read that the cost will be around 1,200 baht per passenger and that the trip will take around 3 hours.
When I went from Bangkok to Hua Hin (by mini bus) it took me about 3.5 hours to get there. So add another 2 hours or so to get from Pattaya to Bangkok and I reckon a direct bus trip (if this even exists between Pattaya and Hua Hin!) would take about 5 hours depending on traffic. And more like 6 hours if you have to go through Bangkok.

Starting at the beginning of March they will also launch a high-speed ferry service doing the crossing from Pattaya to Hua Hin in a blistering 2 hours. This will present passengers with aircraft type seating for up to 25 people and a hostess service offering drinks and snacks. The pick up point will be from Bali Hai pier in Pattaya and a free shuttle bus will meet the boat at Pak Nam Pran Marina to transfer passengers to Hua Hin. It is planned to offer two trips a day from Pattaya, departing at 9am and 4pm respectively. The return journeys will be at 6am and 1pm.
Stormbringer Charters are also currently running a minibus service to Hua Hin which departs twice daily at 6am and 12 noon from Jomtien, Second Rd and Dolphin Roundabout. The minibuses are new and can carry golf clubs and luggage etc in the trailer. The fare one-way is 450 Baht and the trip takes 4hrs with a 10min stop halfway.

Then there`s the sea sickness aspect in the rainy season..

Actually i have driven from Pats to HH.
I think it was 5 hours, and in the middle of the day.
If it were peak hour in BKK even longer,IMO.
That makes the ferry trip even more appealing.

a route that i think will be well
Used.........1200 sounds a bit steep, but if it as quick as it says well worth it.
Does the article above mean the service is starting next march...or is it already delayed??

Looks like they are starting operations in october this year. Not much other info on the site yet.
I'm going to be in Hua Hin in October so this could be a good way to visit Pattaya (never been there).

No Need For The Ferry Now !
Since that new bridge was opened SE of Bangkok, I have been reading that it is now feasible to complete the road journey, Pattaya-Hua Hin in around three and half hours or less.

I took a taxi from Pattaya to Cha-Am last week (which is only 25km north of Hua Hin)
We took the new motorway which bypasses bangkok to the south.
We left at 6pm, and despite 45min crawling through traffic getting out of chonburi, we made it in 3.5 hrs.
A good run in the middle of the day i would expect 3.5hrs to hua hin easily achievable.

Just remembered i git a little lost during that trip about 12 months ago.
I can recall heading north from Pats and passing the airport and it was on my left hand side, when the map clearly stated it should have been on the right..
Took me a little bit longer to get my bearings and find the correct road to get out of the traffic maze called Bangkok.

Dear friend. I just make a silly remark, that there is also an airport as well in that very joyful city Pattaya, and the beautiful Hua Hin. That is indeed less interesting.
A trip on a ferry is another way then a taking a car, then a plane. How more choice, the better for everybody. I don't get seasick, and having had the opportunity several times to Hua Hin by the road, this would be a welcome alternative!

October in 3 days & an update on their site dated 21/9/09 says "Due to long delays from our boat builder. Service launch will be postponed untill further notice."
Hope it's not too long for their sake - I'd be keen to try it. Will be during Peak season if I do get to try it.
