Go with the flow, let things happen rather than chase situations. Keep a sensible head at all times and before you go out, accept the advice of locking all valuables away, e.g. passport, credit cards etc in the safe or safety deposit boxes in the hotel.
On the whole they are a very trusting race the Thais, I wandered in to a bar last May in Patong (Phuket), ended up taking a girl from there and we met up with her friend from another bar. Anyway to cut a long story short, I ended up leaving my fairly expensive new digital camera in the handbag of one of the girls and forgot all about it. Next day I woke and was just relaxing in my room, when I got a call from reception and they said there was someone in reception for me. I went downstairs and saw two big smiles attached to two attractive young ladies. When I enquired as to what they wanted, they just simply handed me the camera and apologised for not giving back when they dropped me off at my hotel last night !! However, you might not always find this is the case, so best not to take the chance.
By the way, I spent quite a few evenings in the company of those 2 ladies, bar-fining them and taking them to a restaurant, dinner, discos etc. I never took either back to my hotel, I treated them as friends and they were just as happy. I went back in September and they were happy to see me, so much so that they took me out one night to a bar in Phuket Town and wouldn't let me spend a single baht !! I wasn't even allowed to pay for the tuk-tuk.
They will really take to you, as long as you maintain your cool, smile a lot and treat them as people regardless of what they do for a job.
I remember my first time and it was fantastic, I hope yours will be as well.
cheers
Diz
