Koh Chang yes/no

Hello,

I was wondering if anybody can tell me something about Koh Chang. I am planning my trip to Thailand and i am not sure what to do. I have two options. After the Similan Islands and Phuket i wanna go somewhere else before i leave. Last year i had a great time on Koh Tao and Koh Pagnang. So one choice is to take a plain from Phuket and fly to Koh samui and from there visit the other islands. The other choice is flying to Pattaya. I would love to visit Pattaya ones but i don't wanna stay there for 1,5 week or so. So i also wanna go somewhere that is near Pattaya. Koh Chang seems like a good option but i an afraid that it might be to quiet and to expensive. So my question is can i compare Koh Chang with Koh Pagnang and Koh Tao ? And are there alot of backpackers on Koh Chang just as on Koh Pagnang ?

Thank you for your help.

Thumbs up

Hi WBC

To be honest i have only been to Koh Samet , Koh Chang .... and yes Phuket is an island to , right ??

After weeeeks of lovely ladie´s and mao to much to much (damned sangsom) in Pattaya you some time need to chill out Koh Samet and Koh Chang are perfect in that case !

Both islands have great sand and water is clear and nice !
Old as i am i only go "pakalang" snorkeling and the captain had to drag me out of the water at Koh Chang 4-5 time´s (another story)

Koh Samet has both quiet parts and some barlife , not like Pattaya/Phuket of cos´!
Koh Chang Same Same even if the barlife i saw was very poor .. 5 balloons and two twins under a steel roof and one of them picked up dog shit with her bare hands!
You remember witch one? i asked my friend ??
Nope he said and we left the bar for more booze at 7/11

Best thing with Koh Chang is the whole island is just a big hill , it´s a mountain sort of speak! Very nice and green even if they have had very little rain when i was there (feb-march-05)
Nice to ride motobike there but i suggest you don´t bring that much Sangsom cos´ 45degree angle or more are for real here and it´s not only you driving there , belive me .. taxi driver´s like Sangsom to ! hehehe

Hello.
I have been at Koh Chang 2 times before and its a really nice island and there is not to many backpakkers. If you go at this time of the year you will find it to quiet because lot of bars close down for the low season, but if you go there in high season then its a good place for party too.I was there in december at had a really good time there.White sand beach have some good bars with nice girls ..i normaly go their to have a break from the wild nightlife in Pattaya..the price from Pattaya to Koh Chang is 1000 THB return its includes pick up from your hotel with aircon minibus and ferry and the same on your return....

Pattaya, Koh Samet, Pattaya

Hi,
What about hitting Pattaya until you need a break then off to Koh Samet and if you get bored back to Pattaya and then home?.
I haven't been to Koh Samet for a while but it was a good chill out place and not to far from Pattaya if you find it to boring.

I guess thats a good option. I am also thinking now , why not just fly to pattaya for a few days and then fly to Samui and Pagnang to relax before i go home again. It can't be that expensive to fly from Pataya to samui i guess.

Oh no ... you caught me there WBC hahaha
Thanx anyway!

Hmm , i think if you live week after week down in the middle of Pattaya you will get tired of it , my trick is to live a few minutes away from it all!
I use to live in Jomtien south from all the action!
Nice and quiet and it only take´s you 5-10min. with the bath bus to go where the action is!
My next trip i will try the opposite , i think ivé found a "nice" and cheap place at Soi 7 (jesus) and will take the room for a whole month!
It will be my "base" sort of speak even if i will travell else where!

Hey Crazyswede,

You put up a picture in your trip report of some 'scary' bungalows on Koh Chang. Do you remember the name of these huts build against the cliff. Were they any good? any luxuries? Might look like a palace from the inside. Or did they almost collapse when you hit the bed ...... LOL.

Hi WhazzzUp!

No i do not know the name of those "terrible" bungalows , tock a few pictures and run from there as fast i could .. okay if i die in Thai banging some sweet tg it´s okay by me but i will not die cos´ of a house in my head hahaha
But if you ever get there you can find them up north from the "city"(big word for a few houses) if you walk the beach !

Found another picture with a sign on it but my latest camera is so bad i can not see what the sign said´s ... can you ?? To damned blury

Second pic´ is the bungalow i rented for a week at Koh Chang , opposite side 7/11 , they have a Cambodian style resturant on the second floor and boutique/painting artist at the grownd floor .. can´t miss it , it´s all builded in bamboo , nice for your contact with the local moscitoes
5 bungalows , think 4 is for rent .. 500b , very basic , toilet , shower and a nice fan + a huge moscito net of cos´

Thanks for the info .....

First picture looks like it's taken from the beach. So guess this is where I'll end up, if the hut on the cliff above falls apart. Looks like they're having a birthday party in the house in the middle. All decorated. Naaaa ... I thought it would be kind of adventurious to stay in a bungalow like that. Enjoy the sunrise from the window or the verandah. However I don't feel like a bungee jump with me inside the bungalow.

The bungalows on the 2nd picture look kind of nice. A bit of back to basics. You paid 500 baht in high season, so guess they could offer me at least 100 baht in low season to stay there ......to keep the bungalow up to scratch ..... 5555. It does sound kind of cosy togeher underneath a mosquito net. I DO like the sound of it. I am kind of a romantic guy, you know .....

The beaches are any good on Koh Chang? Looking for some sandy beaches with palmtrees and a nice spot to have a drink or a bite to eat overlooking the ocean.

Smile Good Evening Whazzzup!

Yes i must say the beache´s are very nice at Koh Chang and you can eighter stay close to the "civilisation" and have your beer and food served in the sand , or like me that time , send your sweet teelak "some where" to bring some BBQ , lice and drinks and stay away from alot of "stupid falang"

The girl i had with me that time didn´t like me to spend alot of money , very stupid , and she picked the bungalow!
It looked like they even had alot of expensive hotels and rooms for rent but i like the "buzz" from the mosquitoes´ my self at least with "teelak" , Sangsom and fan

About this girl and my money ... she got 5000b for 10 days ... and her biggest problem was how i should manage to stay another 6 weeks in Thailand , 5000b was to much to much cos´she made 7000b a month at her office !
Think i burned 140.000b in 8 weeks .. if she only knew

Hi Crazy,

Sounds like you had alot of bad luck in the past. Retired sounded pretty good but now i read your story i rather keep on working. I broke a collarbone this winter with snowboarding and i really hated not to be able to sport. I hope for you you well get a good agreement with the insurance company so you can go on Holliday to Sweden in the future instead of the other way around.

Anyway thx for the pics. I think i will wait untill i am in Thailand before i decide where to go.

Ha ha ..... so guess your poor tilac just had enough money to pay for the bungalow then.

The pictures look very quiet but nice. I kinda like the idea of being away from civilization for a while with the tilac. By the way on the 4th picture is that a red and white satellite TV antenna. Wouldn't want to miss my favourite TV soaps from underneath the mosquito net.

I also found this link on Ko Chang and I do like the views. Guess my 2nd destination after Bangkok will be Ko Chang this trip.

Ko Chang

Thanks again for the info and if there is anyone on the island you would like me to say hello to, just let me know. I'll be more then happy to let them know you said; hi.
