Today's Trip...

Would be the Lake District (Cumbria). This is Aira Force waterfall, which is a place I've never been before.

We had to trek a mile or so from the car and when we got to the wet bit I found that we had left the camera \ tripod connector in the car. I really wanted to try some longer exposure times here but it was not to be.

I'm not sure if these pics manage to convey the mood of the place or not. The lake District is stunning, but in my defence it was a little overcast today with the sun coming through from time to time, tricky light.

Any thoughts on framing and cropping would be welcome.

One more, this is from Bowness and I've seen loads like it and always loved them. I suspect it is cheesy but here is a row of boats.

Nice tree pic reminds of that sarkand2 game I got stuck in the other day..

The moving water shots are atmospheric.. And I can imagine that slow exposure blurred movement could create some really nice shots..

Must say these photo threads do make me want to learn more and use for more than snaps.. Keep it up..

Looks like the conditions were pretty tough for good photos that day. Too much contrast, so all the shadows are black and all the highlights are blown out

Did you get your polariser yet? Doesn't look like there was one used, and may have helped your water shots a bit

I like the waterfall shot, has a certain mood to it - needs a bit of sharpening IMHO to bring out more detail in the rocks, although I'm sure alot has been lost in bringing it down to 100k. The lake shots would be almost impossible to shoot in those conditions without filters to block out light from the sky, I've got a lot of shots that are like this - if you have a tripod you can do two exposures (one for the sky/one for the foreground) and use Photoshop to blend them together - works great!

Think the photos are ok, but conditions were not good. had the same problem on one of the days in Angkor, the sky was completely white all day, so any shot with the sky in it was useless - luckily the following day was blue skies - what a difference!!

I think I used a filter for those two water shots, but the sun was behind the hill and clouds so the light was all over the place.

The tree pic comes across well for 100kb, I really do like it. I've seen some running water shots with long exposures and it blurs, looks a bit surreal, so was keen to try that. Another day maybe.

There is so much to learn about the camera, and about what makes a good picture, but I'm keen to do it and am pretty determined to get all the Thailand shots I should have had for years next time out.

My boy is showing a lot of interest as well, which is really cool as it's one more shared interest.
