BKK - Photo / electronics supplies?
Hi All,
I bought a new camera today but need extra battery / charger things like that, unfortunatly I wont be able to get them locally before I travel to LOS (weeehooo, almost there!) ... so, is it safe enough to assume I will be able to pick up such items in one of the electronics centers in BKK?
thanks!

If its a large brand name and not too fresh to the market then probably..
If its an odd or new one you may struggle..

The other option is if you are travelling through the UAE on your way to BKK there are plenty of good duty free shps that sell that kind of thing.....enjoy LOS i've got a few more weeks before i arrive back there. ....

You may get a charger out there but remember when you get back to the good old uk with 3 pin plugs, it may be no good or you will need an adaptor.

good thinking batman!! ... I will keep that in mind and look out for one that has the plug part seperate, that way worst case scenario I can snip and fit a 3 prong!

Usually the 'plug part' is where the charging circuits are these days.

Foto File in MBK is the best camera shop in Bangkok.
AV Cameras down by the river is also excellent.
Are you talking about a decent sized SLR or a smaller hand held camera? These are serious photography shops, but do sell smaller items as well.
What camera you talking about?

It would be a Canon HV-20 camcorder ..... would also be interested in getting a nice lens for my Nikon if there is a good / reasonably priced and importantly *offical* Nikon dealer there ! (this bearing in mind that retail prices in Ireland are considerably higher than the UK / US)

A lot of your Nikon stuff will be made in Thailand, there's not a lot of knock-off lenses around. You might get good deals on lenses on your way through, Amsterdam is not bad if you are flying KLM.
I got a 50mm F1.8 in Bangkok, at the MBK Centre I think, which cost me 6000baht; about the same as I would have paid at home. There's not much to be gained by buying that sort of thing in Thailand, but there's no problem with getting Nikon to honour the warranty if you do.

Dunno about camcorders, but here are the cost of Nikon lenses at Foto File.
Remember....discount for cash and also get your VAT form for 7% back at customs.
Even us residents use that, they never look at the visa, handy cos I wanna but about 90,000 Bahts worth of gear this week and I'll be away outside Thailand on business next week. So nice little cash back.

not huge.
I bought a body for 50,000 got about 2000 baht off to 48,000. Then with the VAT it comes down to 44,640.
A reasonable saving overall.
